Robust Light-Weight Facial Affective Behavior Recognition with CLIP

Human affective behavior analysis aims to delve into human expressions and behaviors to deepen our understanding of human emotions. Basic expression categories (EXPR) and Action Units (AUs) are two essential components in this analysis, which categorize emotions and break down facial movements into elemental units, respectively. Despite advancements, existing approaches in expression classification and AU detection often necessitate complex models and substantial computational resources, limiting their applicability in everyday settings. In this work, we introduce the first lightweight framework adept at efficiently tackling both expression classification and AU detection. This framework employs a frozen CLIP image encoder alongside a trainable multilayer perceptron (MLP), enhanced with Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) for robustness and a loss landscape flattening strategy for improved generalization. Experimental results on the Aff-wild2 dataset demonstrate superior performance in comparison to the baseline while maintaining minimal computational demands, offering a practical solution for affective behavior analysis. Robust CLIP-Based Detector for Exposing Diffusion Model-Generated Images

Diffusion models (DMs) have revolutionized image generation, producing high-quality images with applications spanning various fields. However, their ability to create hyper-realistic images poses significant challenges in distinguishing between real and synthetic content, raising concerns about digital authenticity and potential misuse in creating deepfakes. This work introduces a robust detection framework that integrates image and text features extracted by CLIP model with a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) classifier. We propose a novel loss that can improve the detector's robustness and handle imbalanced datasets. Additionally, we flatten the loss landscape during the model training to improve the detector's generalization capabilities. The effectiveness of our method, which outperforms traditional detection techniques, is demonstrated through extensive experiments, underscoring its potential to set a new state-of-the-art approach in DM-generated image detection. U2UData: A Large-scale Cooperative Perception Dataset for Swarm UAVs Autonomous Flight

Modern perception systems for autonomous flight are sensitive to occlusion and have limited long-range capability, which is a key bottleneck in improving low-altitude economic task performance. Recent research has shown that the UAV-to-UAV (U2U) cooperative perception system has great potential to revolutionize the autonomous flight industry. However, the lack of a large-scale dataset is hindering progress in this area. This paper presents U2UData, the first large-scale cooperative perception dataset for swarm UAVs autonomous flight. The dataset was collected by three UAVs flying autonomously in the U2USim, covering a 9 km$^2$ flight area. It comprises 315K LiDAR frames, 945K RGB and depth frames, and 2.41M annotated 3D bounding boxes for 3 classes. It also includes brightness, temperature, humidity, smoke, and airflow values covering all flight routes. U2USim is the first real-world mapping swarm UAVs simulation environment. It takes Yunnan Province as the prototype and includes 4 terrains, 7 weather conditions, and 8 sensor types. U2UData introduces two perception tasks: cooperative 3D object detection and cooperative 3D object tracking. This paper provides comprehensive benchmarks of recent cooperative perception algorithms on these tasks.

Multi-weather Cross-view Geo-localization Using Denoising Diffusion Models

Cross-view geo-localization in GNSS-denied environments aims to determine an unknown location by matching drone-view images with the correct geo-tagged satellite-view images from a large gallery. Recent research shows that learning discriminative image representations under specific weather conditions can significantly enhance performance. However, the frequent occurrence of unseen extreme weather conditions hinders progress. This paper introduces MCGF, a Multi-weather Cross-view Geo-localization Framework designed to dynamically adapt to unseen weather conditions. MCGF establishes a joint optimization between image restoration and geo-localization using denoising diffusion models. For image restoration, MCGF incorporates a shared encoder and a lightweight restoration module to help the backbone eliminate weather-specific information. For geo-localization, MCGF uses EVA-02 as a backbone for feature extraction, with cross-entropy loss for training and cosine distance for testing. Extensive experiments on University160k-WX demonstrate that MCGF achieves competitive results for geo-localization in varying weather conditions.

ZMM-TTS: Zero-shot Multilingual and Multispeaker Speech Synthesis Conditioned on Self-supervised Discrete Speech Representations

Neural text-to-speech (TTS) has achieved human-like synthetic speech for single-speaker, single-language synthesis. Multilingual TTS systems are limited to resource-rich languages due to the lack of large paired text and studio-quality audio data. TTS systems are typically built using a single speaker's voices, but there is growing interest in developing systems that can synthesize voices for new speakers using only a few seconds of their speech. This paper presents ZMM-TTS, a multilingual and multispeaker framework utilizing quantized latent speech representations from a large-scale, pre-trained, self-supervised model. Our paper combines text-based and speech-based self-supervised learning models for multilingual speech synthesis. Our proposed model has zero-shot generalization ability not only for unseen speakers but also for unseen languages. We have conducted comprehensive subjective and objective evaluations through a series of experiments. Our model has proven effective in terms of speech naturalness and similarity for both seen and unseen speakers in six high-resource languages. We also tested the efficiency of our method on two hypothetically low-resource languages. The results are promising, indicating that our proposed approach can synthesize audio that is intelligible and has a high degree of similarity to the target speaker's voice, even without any training data for the new, unseen language.

UU-Mamba: Uncertainty-aware U-Mamba for Cardiac Image Segmentation

Biomedical image segmentation is critical for accurate identification and analysis of anatomical structures in medical imaging, particularly in cardiac MRI. Manual segmentation is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to errors, highlighting the need for automated methods. However, current machine learning approaches face challenges like overfitting and data demands. To tackle these issues, we propose a new UU-Mamba model, integrating the U-Mamba model with the Sharpness-Aware Minimization (SAM) optimizer and an uncertainty-aware loss function. SAM enhances generalization by locating flat minima in the loss landscape, thus reducing overfitting. The uncertainty-aware loss combines region-based, distribution-based, and pixel-based loss designs to improve segmentation accuracy and robustness. Evaluation of our method is performed on the ACDC cardiac dataset, outperforming state-of-the-art models including TransUNet, Swin-Unet, nnUNet, and nnFormer. Our approach achieves Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) and Mean Squared Error (MSE) scores, demonstrating its effectiveness in cardiac MRI segmentation.

A Preliminary Case Study on Long-Form In-the-Wild Audio Spoofing Detection

Audio spoofing detection has become increasingly important due to the rise in real-world cases. Current spoofing detectors, referred to as spoofing countermeasures (CM), are mainly trained and focused on audio waveforms with a single speaker and short duration. This study explores spoofing detection in more realistic scenarios, where the audio is long in duration and features multiple speakers and complex acoustic conditions. We test the widely-acquired AASIST under this challenging scenario, looking at the impact of multiple variations such as duration, speaker presence, and acoustic complexities on CM performance. Our work reveals key issues with current methods and suggests preliminary ways to improve them. We aim to make spoofing detection more applicable in more in-the-wild scenarios. This research is served as an important step towards developing detection systems that can handle the challenges of audio spoofing in real-world applications.

Circuit Knitting Faces Exponential Sampling Overhead Scaling Bounded by Entanglement Cost

Circuit knitting, a method for connecting quantum circuits across multiple processors to simulate nonlocal quantum operations, is a promising approach for distributed quantum computing. While various techniques have been developed for circuit knitting, we uncover fundamental limitations to the scalability of this technology. We prove that the sampling overhead of circuit knitting is exponentially lower bounded by the exact entanglement cost of the target bipartite dynamic, even for asymptotic overhead in the parallel cut regime. Specifically, we prove that the regularized sampling overhead assisted with local operations and classical communication (LOCC), of any bipartite quantum channel is lower bounded by the exponential of its exact entanglement cost under separable preserving operations. Furthermore, we show that the regularized sampling overhead for simulating a general bipartite channel via LOCC is lower bounded by $κ$-entanglement and max-Rains information, providing efficiently computable benchmarks. Our work reveals a profound connection between virtual quantum information processing via quasi-probability decomposition and quantum Shannon theory, highlighting the critical role of entanglement in distributed quantum computing.

Adversarial Prompt Tuning for Vision-Language Models

With the rapid advancement of multimodal learning, pre-trained Vision-Language Models (VLMs) such as CLIP have demonstrated remarkable capacities in bridging the gap between visual and language modalities. However, these models remain vulnerable to adversarial attacks, particularly in the image modality, presenting considerable security risks. This paper introduces Adversarial Prompt Tuning (AdvPT), a novel technique to enhance the adversarial robustness of image encoders in VLMs. AdvPT innovatively leverages learnable text prompts and aligns them with adversarial image embeddings, to address the vulnerabilities inherent in VLMs without the need for extensive parameter training or modification of the model architecture. We demonstrate that AdvPT improves resistance against white-box and black-box adversarial attacks and exhibits a synergistic effect when combined with existing image-processing-based defense techniques, further boosting defensive capabilities. Comprehensive experimental analyses provide insights into adversarial prompt tuning, a novel paradigm devoted to improving resistance to adversarial images through textual input modifications, paving the way for future robust multimodal learning research. These findings open up new possibilities for enhancing the security of VLMs. Our code is available at https://github.com/jiamingzhang94/Adversarial-Prompt-Tuning.

Malacopula: adversarial automatic speaker verification attacks using a neural-based generalised Hammerstein model

We present Malacopula, a neural-based generalised Hammerstein model designed to introduce adversarial perturbations to spoofed speech utterances so that they better deceive automatic speaker verification (ASV) systems. Using non-linear processes to modify speech utterances, Malacopula enhances the effectiveness of spoofing attacks. The model comprises parallel branches of polynomial functions followed by linear time-invariant filters. The adversarial optimisation procedure acts to minimise the cosine distance between speaker embeddings extracted from spoofed and bona fide utterances. Experiments, performed using three recent ASV systems and the ASVspoof 2019 dataset, show that Malacopula increases vulnerabilities by a substantial margin. However, speech quality is reduced and attacks can be detected effectively under controlled conditions. The findings emphasise the need to identify new vulnerabilities and design defences to protect ASV systems from adversarial attacks in the wild.

ASVspoof 5: Crowdsourced Speech Data, Deepfakes, and Adversarial Attacks at Scale

ASVspoof 5 is the fifth edition in a series of challenges that promote the study of speech spoofing and deepfake attacks, and the design of detection solutions. Compared to previous challenges, the ASVspoof 5 database is built from crowdsourced data collected from a vastly greater number of speakers in diverse acoustic conditions. Attacks, also crowdsourced, are generated and tested using surrogate detection models, while adversarial attacks are incorporated for the first time. New metrics support the evaluation of spoofing-robust automatic speaker verification (SASV) as well as stand-alone detection solutions, i.e., countermeasures without ASV. We describe the two challenge tracks, the new database, the evaluation metrics, baselines, and the evaluation platform, and present a summary of the results. Attacks significantly compromise the baseline systems, while submissions bring substantial improvements.

Correlation-based Beam Calibration of 21cm Intensity Mapping

Foreground removal presents a significant obstacle in both current and forthcoming intensity mapping surveys. While numerous techniques have been developed that show promise in simulated datasets, their efficacy often diminishes when applied to real-world data. A primary issue is the frequency-dependent variations in the instrumental response. In this paper, we propose a novel approach utilizing the internal cross-correlation among different frequencies to calibrate the beam's frequency fluctuations. Using a simulated dataset that incorporates frequency-dependent random fluctuations into the beam model, we illustrate that our method can achieve considerable improvements over traditional techniques. Our results represent a step forward in enhancing the precision and reliability of foreground removal in intensity mapping surveys.

An Explainable Non-local Network for COVID-19 Diagnosis

The CNN has achieved excellent results in the automatic classification of medical images. In this study, we propose a novel deep residual 3D attention non-local network (NL-RAN) to classify CT images included COVID-19, common pneumonia, and normal to perform rapid and explainable COVID-19 diagnosis. We built a deep residual 3D attention non-local network that could achieve end-to-end training. The network is embedded with a nonlocal module to capture global information, while a 3D attention module is embedded to focus on the details of the lesion so that it can directly analyze the 3D lung CT and output the classification results. The output of the attention module can be used as a heat map to increase the interpretability of the model. 4079 3D CT scans were included in this study. Each scan had a unique label (novel coronavirus pneumonia, common pneumonia, and normal). The CT scans cohort was randomly split into a training set of 3263 scans, a validation set of 408 scans, and a testing set of 408 scans. And compare with existing mainstream classification methods, such as CovNet, CBAM, ResNet, etc. Simultaneously compare the visualization results with visualization methods such as CAM. Model performance was evaluated using the Area Under the ROC Curve(AUC), precision, and F1-score. The NL-RAN achieved the AUC of 0.9903, the precision of 0.9473, and the F1-score of 0.9462, surpass all the classification methods compared. The heat map output by the attention module is also clearer than the heat map output by CAM. Our experimental results indicate that our proposed method performs significantly better than existing methods. In addition, the first attention module outputs a heat map containing detailed outline information to increase the interpretability of the model. Our experiments indicate that the inference of our model is fast. It can provide real-time assistance with diagnosis.

TupleChain: Fast Lookup of OpenFlow Table with Multifaceted Scalability

OpenFlow switches are fundamental components of software defined networking, where the key operation is to look up flow tables to determine which flow an incoming packet belongs to. This needs to address the same multi-field rule-matching problem as legacy packet classification, but faces more serious scalability challenges. The demand of fast on-line updates makes most existing solutions unfit, while the rest still lacks the scalability to either large data sets or large number of fields to match for a rule. In this work, we propose TupleChain for fast OpenFlow table lookup with multifaceted scalability. We group rules based on their masks, each being maintained with a hash table, and explore the connections among rule groups to skip unnecessary hash probes for fast search. We show via theoretical analysis and extensive experiments that the proposed scheme not only has competitive computing complexity, but is also scalable and can achieve high performance in both search and update. It can process multiple millions of packets per second, while dealing with millions of on-line updates per second at the same time, and its lookup speed maintains at the same level no mater it handles a large flow table with 10 million rules or a flow table with every entry having as many as 100 match fields.

MGFs: Masked Gaussian Fields for Meshing Building based on Multi-View Images

Over the last few decades, image-based building surface reconstruction has garnered substantial research interest and has been applied across various fields, such as heritage preservation, architectural planning, etc. Compared to the traditional photogrammetric and NeRF-based solutions, recently, Gaussian fields-based methods have exhibited significant potential in generating surface meshes due to their time-efficient training and detailed 3D information preservation. However, most gaussian fields-based methods are trained with all image pixels, encompassing building and nonbuilding areas, which results in a significant noise for building meshes and degeneration in time efficiency. This paper proposes a novel framework, Masked Gaussian Fields (MGFs), designed to generate accurate surface reconstruction for building in a time-efficient way. The framework first applies EfficientSAM and COLMAP to generate multi-level masks of building and the corresponding masked point clouds. Subsequently, the masked gaussian fields are trained by integrating two innovative losses: a multi-level perceptual masked loss focused on constructing building regions and a boundary loss aimed at enhancing the details of the boundaries between different masks. Finally, we improve the tetrahedral surface mesh extraction method based on the masked gaussian spheres. Comprehensive experiments on UAV images demonstrate that, compared to the traditional method and several NeRF-based and Gaussian-based SOTA solutions, our approach significantly improves both the accuracy and efficiency of building surface reconstruction. Notably, as a byproduct, there is an additional gain in the novel view synthesis of building.

AdvQDet: Detecting Query-Based Adversarial Attacks with Adversarial Contrastive Prompt Tuning

Deep neural networks (DNNs) are known to be vulnerable to adversarial attacks even under a black-box setting where the adversary can only query the model. Particularly, query-based black-box adversarial attacks estimate adversarial gradients based on the returned probability vectors of the target model for a sequence of queries. During this process, the queries made to the target model are intermediate adversarial examples crafted at the previous attack step, which share high similarities in the pixel space. Motivated by this observation, stateful detection methods have been proposed to detect and reject query-based attacks. While demonstrating promising results, these methods either have been evaded by more advanced attacks or suffer from low efficiency in terms of the number of shots (queries) required to detect different attacks. Arguably, the key challenge here is to assign high similarity scores for any two intermediate adversarial examples perturbed from the same clean image. To address this challenge, we propose a novel Adversarial Contrastive Prompt Tuning (ACPT) method to robustly fine-tune the CLIP image encoder to extract similar embeddings for any two intermediate adversarial queries. With ACPT, we further introduce a detection framework AdvQDet that can detect 7 state-of-the-art query-based attacks with $>99\%$ detection rate within 5 shots. We also show that ACPT is robust to 3 types of adaptive attacks. Code is available at https://github.com/xinwong/AdvQDet.

Evolutionary dynamics in stochastic nonlinear public goods games

Understanding the evolution of cooperation in multiplayer games is of vital significance for natural and social systems. An important challenge is that group interactions often leads to nonlinear synergistic effects. However, previous models mainly focus on deterministic nonlinearity where the arise of synergy or discounting effect is determined by certain conditions, ignoring uncertainty and stochasticity in real-world systems. Here, we develop a probabilistic framework to study the cooperative behavior in stochastic nonlinear public goods games. Through both analytical treatment and Monte Carlo simulations, we provide comprehensive understanding of social dilemmas with stochastic nonlinearity in both well-mixed and structured populations. We find that increasing the degree of nonlinearity makes synergy more advantageous when competing with discounting, thereby promoting cooperation. Interestingly, we show that network reciprocity loses effectiveness when the probability of synergy is small. Moreover, group size exhibits nonlinear effects on group cooperation regardless of the underlying structure. Our findings thus provide novel insights into how stochastic nonlinearity influences the emergence of prosocial behavior.

DFE-IANet: A Method for Polyp Image Classification Based on Dual-domain Feature Extraction and Interaction Attention

It is helpful in preventing colorectal cancer to detect and treat polyps in the gastrointestinal tract early. However, there have been few studies to date on designing polyp image classification networks that balance efficiency and accuracy. This challenge is mainly attributed to the fact that polyps are similar to other pathologies and have complex features influenced by texture, color, and morphology. In this paper, we propose a novel network DFE-IANet based on both spectral transformation and feature interaction. Firstly, to extract detailed features and multi-scale features, the features are transformed by the multi-scale frequency domain feature extraction (MSFD) block to extract texture details at the fine-grained level in the frequency domain. Secondly, the multi-scale interaction attention (MSIA) block is designed to enhance the network's capability of extracting critical features. This block introduces multi-scale features into self-attention, aiming to adaptively guide the network to concentrate on vital regions. Finally, with a compact parameter of only 4M, DFE-IANet outperforms the latest and classical networks in terms of efficiency. Furthermore, DFE-IANet achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) results on the challenging Kvasir dataset, demonstrating a remarkable Top-1 accuracy of 93.94%. This outstanding accuracy surpasses ViT by 8.94%, ResNet50 by 1.69%, and VMamba by 1.88%. Our code is publicly available at https://github.com/PURSUETHESUN/DFE-IANet.
