A Survey on 3D Reconstruction Techniques in Plant Phenotyping: From Classical Methods to Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), and Beyond

Plant phenotyping plays a pivotal role in understanding plant traits and their interactions with the environment, making it crucial for advancing precision agriculture and crop improvement. 3D reconstruction technologies have emerged as powerful tools for capturing detailed plant morphology and structure, offering significant potential for accurate and automated phenotyping. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the 3D reconstruction techniques for plant phenotyping, covering classical reconstruction methods, emerging Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF), and the novel 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) approach. Classical methods, which often rely on high-resolution sensors, are widely adopted due to their simplicity and flexibility in representing plant structures. However, they face challenges such as data density, noise, and scalability. NeRF, a recent advancement, enables high-quality, photorealistic 3D reconstructions from sparse viewpoints, but its computational cost and applicability in outdoor environments remain areas of active research. The emerging 3DGS technique introduces a new paradigm in reconstructing plant structures by representing geometry through Gaussian primitives, offering potential benefits in both efficiency and scalability. We review the methodologies, applications, and performance of these approaches in plant phenotyping and discuss their respective strengths, limitations, and future prospects (https://github.com/JiajiaLi04/3D-Reconstruction-Plants). Through this review, we aim to provide insights into how these diverse 3D reconstruction techniques can be effectively leveraged for automated and high-throughput plant phenotyping, contributing to the next generation of agricultural technology.

Explicit Motion Handling and Interactive Prompting for Video Camouflaged Object Detection

Camouflage poses challenges in distinguishing a static target, whereas any movement of the target can break this disguise. Existing video camouflaged object detection (VCOD) approaches take noisy motion estimation as input or model motion implicitly, restricting detection performance in complex dynamic scenes. In this paper, we propose a novel Explicit Motion handling and Interactive Prompting framework for VCOD, dubbed EMIP, which handles motion cues explicitly using a frozen pre-trained optical flow fundamental model. EMIP is characterized by a two-stream architecture for simultaneously conducting camouflaged segmentation and optical flow estimation. Interactions across the dual streams are realized in an interactive prompting way that is inspired by emerging visual prompt learning. Two learnable modules, i.e., the camouflaged feeder and motion collector, are designed to incorporate segmentation-to-motion and motion-to-segmentation prompts, respectively, and enhance outputs of the both streams. The prompt fed to the motion stream is learned by supervising optical flow in a self-supervised manner. Furthermore, we show that long-term historical information can also be incorporated as a prompt into EMIP and achieve more robust results with temporal consistency. Experimental results demonstrate that our EMIP achieves new state-of-the-art records on popular VCOD benchmarks. Our code is made publicly available at https://github.com/zhangxin06/EMIP.

Provably Secure Public-Key Steganography Based on Admissible Encoding

The technique of hiding secret messages within seemingly harmless covertext to evade examination by censors with rigorous security proofs is known as provably secure steganography (PSS). PSS evolves from symmetric key steganography to public-key steganography, functioning without the requirement of a pre-shared key and enabling the extension to multi-party covert communication and identity verification mechanisms. Recently, a public-key steganography method based on elliptic curves was proposed, which uses point compression to eliminate the algebraic structure of curve points. However, this method has strict requirements on the curve parameters and is only available on half of the points. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a more general elliptic curve public key steganography method based on admissible encoding. By applying the tensor square function to the known well-distributed encoding, we construct admissible encoding, which can create the pseudo-random public-key encryption function. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the proposed provable secure public-key steganography method can be deployed on all types of curves and utilize all points on the curve.

TabulaTime: A Novel Multimodal Deep Learning Framework for Advancing Acute Coronary Syndrome Prediction through Environmental and Clinical Data Integration

Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS), including ST-segment elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarctions (NSTEMI), remain a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Traditional cardiovascular risk scores rely primarily on clinical data, often overlooking environmental influences like air pollution that significantly impact heart health. Moreover, integrating complex time-series environmental data with clinical records is challenging. We introduce TabulaTime, a multimodal deep learning framework that enhances ACS risk prediction by combining clinical risk factors with air pollution data. TabulaTime features three key innovations: First, it integrates time-series air pollution data with clinical tabular data to improve prediction accuracy. Second, its PatchRWKV module automatically extracts complex temporal patterns, overcoming limitations of traditional feature engineering while maintaining linear computational complexity. Third, attention mechanisms enhance interpretability by revealing interactions between clinical and environmental factors. Experimental results show that TabulaTime improves prediction accuracy by over 20% compared to conventional models such as CatBoost, Random Forest, and LightGBM, with air pollution data alone contributing over a 10% improvement. Feature importance analysis identifies critical predictors including previous angina, systolic blood pressure, PM10, and NO2. Overall, TabulaTime bridges clinical and environmental insights, supporting personalized prevention strategies and informing public health policies to mitigate ACS risk.

An Accelerated Camera 3DMA Framework for Efficient Urban GNSS Multipath Estimation

Robust GNSS positioning in urban environments is still plagued by multipath effects, particularly due to the complex signal propagation induced by ubiquitous surfaces with varied radio frequency reflectivities. Current 3D Mapping Aided (3DMA) GNSS techniques show great potentials in mitigating multipath but face a critical trade-off between computational efficiency and modeling accuracy. Most approaches often rely on offline outdated or oversimplified 3D maps, while real-time LiDAR-based reconstruction boasts high accuracy, it is problematic in low laser reflectivity conditions; camera 3DMA is a good candidate to balance accuracy and efficiency but current methods suffer from extremely low reconstruction speed, a far cry from real-time multipath-mitigated navigation. This paper proposes an accelerated framework incorporating camera multi-view stereo (MVS) reconstruction and ray tracing. By hypothesizing on surface textures, an orthogonal visual feature fusion framework is proposed, which robustly addresses both texture-rich and texture-poor surfaces, lifting off the reflectivity challenges in visual reconstruction. A polygonal surface modeling scheme is further integrated to accurately delineate complex building boundaries, enhancing the reconstruction granularity. To avoid excessively accurate reconstruction, reprojected point cloud multi-plane fitting and two complexity control strategies are proposed, thus improving upon multipath estimation speed. Experiments were conducted in Lujiazui, Shanghai, a typical multipath-prone district. The results show that the method achieves an average reconstruction accuracy of 2.4 meters in dense urban environments featuring glass curtain wall structures, a traditionally tough case for reconstruction, and achieves a ray-tracing-based multipath correction rate of 30 image frames per second, 10 times faster than the contemporary benchmarks.

Deep Learning Meets Process-Based Models: A Hybrid Approach to Agricultural Challenges

Process-based models (PBMs) and deep learning (DL) are two key approaches in agricultural modelling, each offering distinct advantages and limitations. PBMs provide mechanistic insights based on physical and biological principles, ensuring interpretability and scientific rigour. However, they often struggle with scalability, parameterisation, and adaptation to heterogeneous environments. In contrast, DL models excel at capturing complex, nonlinear patterns from large datasets but may suffer from limited interpretability, high computational demands, and overfitting in data-scarce scenarios. This study presents a systematic review of PBMs, DL models, and hybrid PBM-DL frameworks, highlighting their applications in agricultural and environmental modelling. We classify hybrid PBM-DL approaches into DL-informed PBMs, where neural networks refine process-based models, and PBM-informed DL, where physical constraints guide deep learning predictions. Additionally, we conduct a case study on crop dry biomass prediction, comparing hybrid models against standalone PBMs and DL models under varying data quality, sample sizes, and spatial conditions. The results demonstrate that hybrid models consistently outperform traditional PBMs and DL models, offering greater robustness to noisy data and improved generalisation across unseen locations. Finally, we discuss key challenges, including model interpretability, scalability, and data requirements, alongside actionable recommendations for advancing hybrid modelling in agriculture. By integrating domain knowledge with AI-driven approaches, this study contributes to the development of scalable, interpretable, and reproducible agricultural models that support data-driven decision-making for sustainable agriculture.

Solving All Seismic Tomographic Problems using Deep Learning

In a variety of geoscientific applications scientists often need to image properties of the Earth's interior in order to understand the heterogeneity and processes taking place within the Earth. Seismic tomography is one such method which has been used widely to study properties of the subsurface. In order to solve tomographic problems efficiently, neural network-based methods have been introduced to geophysics. However, these methods can only be applied to certain types of problems with fixed acquisition geometry at a specific site. In this study we extend neural network-based methods to problems with various scales and acquisition geometries by using graph mixture density networks (MDNs). We train a graph MDN for 2D tomographic problems using simulated velocity models and travel time data, and apply the trained network to both synthetic and real data problems that have various scales and station distributions at different sites. The results demonstrate that graph MDNs can provide comparable solutions to those obtained using traditional Bayesian methods in seconds, and therefore provide the possibility to use graph MDNs to produce rapid solutions for all kinds of seismic tomographic problems over the world.

Self-Supervised Traversability Learning with Online Prototype Adaptation for Off-Road Autonomous Driving

Achieving reliable and safe autonomous driving in off-road environments requires accurate and efficient terrain traversability analysis. However, this task faces several challenges, including the scarcity of large-scale datasets tailored for off-road scenarios, the high cost and potential errors of manual annotation, the stringent real-time requirements of motion planning, and the limited computational power of onboard units. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel traversability learning method that leverages self-supervised learning, eliminating the need for manual annotation. For the first time, a Birds-Eye View (BEV) representation is used as input, reducing computational burden and improving adaptability to downstream motion planning. During vehicle operation, the proposed method conducts online analysis of traversed regions and dynamically updates prototypes to adaptively assess the traversability of the current environment, effectively handling dynamic scene changes. We evaluate our approach against state-of-the-art benchmarks on both public datasets and our own dataset, covering diverse seasons and geographical locations. Experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms recent approaches. Additionally, real-world vehicle experiments show that our method operates at 10 Hz, meeting real-time requirements, while a 5.5 km autonomous driving experiment further validates the generated traversability cost maps compatibility with downstream motion planning.

Mamba as a Bridge: Where Vision Foundation Models Meet Vision Language Models for Domain-Generalized Semantic Segmentation

Vision Foundation Models (VFMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have gained traction in Domain Generalized Semantic Segmentation (DGSS) due to their strong generalization capabilities. However, existing DGSS methods often rely exclusively on either VFMs or VLMs, overlooking their complementary strengths. VFMs (e.g., DINOv2) excel at capturing fine-grained features, while VLMs (e.g., CLIP) provide robust text alignment but struggle with coarse granularity. Despite their complementary strengths, effectively integrating VFMs and VLMs with attention mechanisms is challenging, as the increased patch tokens complicate long-sequence modeling. To address this, we propose MFuser, a novel Mamba-based fusion framework that efficiently combines the strengths of VFMs and VLMs while maintaining linear scalability in sequence length. MFuser consists of two key components: MVFuser, which acts as a co-adapter to jointly fine-tune the two models by capturing both sequential and spatial dynamics; and MTEnhancer, a hybrid attention-Mamba module that refines text embeddings by incorporating image priors. Our approach achieves precise feature locality and strong text alignment without incurring significant computational overhead. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MFuser significantly outperforms state-of-the-art DGSS methods, achieving 68.20 mIoU on synthetic-to-real and 71.87 mIoU on real-to-real benchmarks. The code is available at https://github.com/devinxzhang/MFuser.

REWARD CONSISTENCY: Improving Multi-Objective Alignment from a Data-Centric Perspective

Multi-objective preference alignment in language models often encounters a challenging trade-off: optimizing for one human preference (e.g., helpfulness) frequently compromises others (e.g., harmlessness) due to the inherent conflicts between competing objectives. While prior work mainly focuses on algorithmic solutions, we explore a novel data-driven approach to uncover the types of data that can effectively mitigate these conflicts. Specifically, we propose the concept of Reward Consistency (RC), which identifies samples that align with multiple preference objectives, thereby reducing conflicts during training. Through gradient-based analysis, we demonstrate that RC-compliant samples inherently constrain performance degradation during multi-objective optimization. Building on these insights, we further develop Reward Consistency Sampling, a framework that automatically constructs preference datasets that effectively mitigate conflicts during multi-objective alignment. Our generated data achieves an average improvement of 13.37% in both the harmless rate and helpfulness win rate when optimizing harmlessness and helpfulness, and can consistently resolve conflicts in varying multi-objective scenarios.

Enhancing dark siren cosmology through multi-band gravitational wave synergetic observations

Multi-band gravitational-wave (GW) standard siren observations are poised to herald a new era in the study of cosmic evolution. These observations offer higher signal-to-noise ratios and improved localizations compared to those achieved with single-band GW detection, which are crucial for the cosmological applications of dark sirens. In this work, we explore the role multi-band GW synergetic observations will play in measuring cosmological parameters, particularly in comparison with single GW observatory data. We used mock multi-band dark siren data from third-generation GW detectors and the baseline Decihertz Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory to infer cosmological parameters. Our analysis shows that multi-band GW observations significantly improve sky localization accuracy by two to three orders of magnitude over single-band observations, although their impact on luminosity distance error remains limited. This results in a substantial improvement in the constraints on matter density and the Hubble constant, enhancing their constraint precision by $60\%$-$90\%$ and $52\%$-$85\%$, respectively. We conclude that the significant potential of multi-band GW synergistic observations for detecting GW signals and resolving the Hubble tension is highly promising and warrants anticipation.

MIEB: Massive Image Embedding Benchmark

Image representations are often evaluated through disjointed, task-specific protocols, leading to a fragmented understanding of model capabilities. For instance, it is unclear whether an image embedding model adept at clustering images is equally good at retrieving relevant images given a piece of text. We introduce the Massive Image Embedding Benchmark (MIEB) to evaluate the performance of image and image-text embedding models across the broadest spectrum to date. MIEB spans 38 languages across 130 individual tasks, which we group into 8 high-level categories. We benchmark 50 models across our benchmark, finding that no single method dominates across all task categories. We reveal hidden capabilities in advanced vision models such as their accurate visual representation of texts, and their yet limited capabilities in interleaved encodings and matching images and texts in the presence of confounders. We also show that the performance of vision encoders on MIEB correlates highly with their performance when used in multimodal large language models. Our code, dataset, and leaderboard are publicly available at https://github.com/embeddings-benchmark/mteb.

Outage Probability Analysis for OTFS with Finite Blocklength

Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation is widely acknowledged as a prospective waveform for future wireless communication networks. To provide insights for the practical system design, this paper analyzes the outage probability of OTFS modulation with finite blocklength. To begin with, we present the system model and formulate the analysis of outage probability for OTFS with finite blocklength as an equivalent problem of calculating the outage probability with finite blocklength over parallel additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels.Subsequently, we apply the equivalent noise approach to derive a lower bound on the outage probability of OTFS with finite blocklength under both average power allocation and water-filling power allocation strategies, respectively. Finally, the lower bounds of the outage probability are determined using the Monte-Carlo method for the two power allocation strategies. The impact of the number of resolvable paths and coding rates on the outage probability is analyzed, and the simulation results are compared with the theoretical lower bounds.

Emergency Communication: OTFS-Based Semantic Transmission with Diffusion Noise Suppression

Due to their flexibility and dynamic coverage capabilities, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as vital platforms for emergency communication in disaster-stricken areas. However, the complex channel conditions in high-speed mobile scenarios significantly impact the reliability and efficiency of traditional communication systems. This paper presents an intelligent emergency communication framework that integrates Orthogonal Time Frequency Space (OTFS) modulation, semantic communication, and a diffusion-based denoising module to address these challenges. OTFS ensures robust communication under dynamic channel conditions due to its superior anti-fading characteristics and adaptability to rapidly changing environments. Semantic communication further enhances transmission efficiency by focusing on key information extraction and reducing data redundancy. Moreover, a diffusion-based channel denoising module is proposed to leverage the gradual noise reduction process and statistical noise modeling, optimizing the accuracy of semantic information recovery. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed solution significantly improves link stability and transmission performance in high-mobility UAV scenarios, achieving at least a 3dB SNR gain over existing methods.

Apt-Serve: Adaptive Request Scheduling on Hybrid Cache for Scalable LLM Inference Serving

Large language model (LLM) inference serving systems are essential to various LLM-based applications. As demand for LLM services continues to grow, scaling these systems to handle high request rates while meeting latency Service-Level Objectives (SLOs), referred to as effective throughput, becomes critical. However, existing systems often struggle to improve effective throughput, primarily due to a significant decline in Time To First Token (TTFT) SLO attainment. We identify two major causes of this bottleneck: (1) memory-intensive KV cache that limits batch size expansion under GPU memory constraints, and (2) rigid batch composition enforced by the default First-Come-First-Serve scheduling policy. In this paper, we introduce Apt-Serve, a scalable framework designed to enhance effective throughput in LLM inference serving. Apt-Serve features a new hybrid cache scheme that combines KV cache with a memory-efficient hidden cache for reusable input hidden state vectors, allowing large batch sizes and improving request concurrency. Based on the hybrid cache, Apt-Serve employs an adaptive runtime scheduling mechanism that dynamically optimizes batch composition. We formally define the adaptive scheduling optimization problem and propose an efficient algorithm with theoretical guarantees. Extensive evaluations on three real-world datasets and LLMs ranging from 13B to 66B parameters demonstrate that Apt-Serve achieves up to 8.8x improvement in effective throughput compared to the state-of-the-art inference serving systems.

Data-Driven Insights into Rare Earth Mineralization: Machine Learning Applications Using Functional Material Synthesis Data

Quantitative understanding of rare earth element (REE) mineralization mechanisms, crucial for improving industrial separation, remains limited. This study leverages 1239 hydrothermal synthesis datapoints from material science as a surrogate for natural REE mineralization. We trained machine learning models (KNN, RF, XGBoost) using precursor, additive, and reaction data to predict product elements and phases, validating predictions with new experiments. XGBoost exhibited the highest accuracy, with feature importance analysis indicating thermodynamic properties were critical for predictions. Observed correlations among reaction parameters aligned with classical crystallization theory. Further XGBoost models successfully predicted reaction temperature and pH from precursor/product data. Our findings demonstrate the cross-disciplinary utility of material science data for geochemical understanding, underscore the need for research on less-studied REE minerals (e.g., carbonates, heavy REEs), and suggest potential to accelerate REE resource development.

Evolution and detection of vector superradiant instabilities

Ultralight vectors can extract energy and angular momentum from a Kerr black hole (BH) due to superradiant instability, resulting in the formation of a BH-condensate system. In this work, we carefully investigate the evolution of this system numerically with multiple superradiant modes. Simple formulas are obtained to estimate important timescales, maximum masses of different modes, as well as the BH mass and spin at various times. Due to the coexistence of modes with small frequency differences, the BH-condensate system emits gravitational waves with a unique beat signature, which could be directly observed by current and projected interferometers. Besides, the current BH spin-mass data from the binary BH merger events already exclude the vector mass in the range $5\times 10^{-15}\ \mathrm{eV} <μ< 9\times 10^{-12}\ \mathrm{eV}$.
