13.56MHz Rectifying Diodes Based on Metal Halide Perovskite

The increasing use of portable and wireless technologies has led to a growing focus on radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags. Among the various devices in RFID tags, rectifying diodes are the most demanding in terms of high-frequency performance, and these diodes are dominated by organic materials. However, their intrinsic low carrier mobility largely limits the rectifying ability of organic diodes. As an alternative, metal halide perovskites (MHPs) possess high carrier mobility, making them potential candidates for higher-frequency applications. Whereas their ion-migration issue may deteriorate their high-frequency performance. In this study, we report rectifying diodes based on MHPs that can rectify an incoming sinusoidal signal at 13.56 MHz. The diodes exhibit a high rectification ratio of 1.9 x 103 at 1 V and can rectify signals at even higher frequencies. We designed a triangular wave detection method to measure the intensity of ion-migration at different frequencies. Interestingly, the ion-migration did not occur at such a high frequency. The high-frequency stagnant ions and excellent carrier mobility make MHPs unexpectedly suitable for high-frequency applications, providing a promising solution to ion-migration issues and paving the way for perovskites in high-frequency areas.

Kalman Filter-based Sensing in Communication Systems with Clock Asynchronism

In this paper, we propose a novel Kalman Filter (KF)-based uplink (UL) joint communication and sensing (JCAS) scheme, which can significantly reduce the range and location estimation errors due to the clock asynchronism between the base station (BS) and user equipment (UE). Clock asynchronism causes time-varying time offset (TO) and carrier frequency offset (CFO), leading to major challenges in uplink sensing. Unlike existing technologies, our scheme does not require knowing the location of the UE in advance, and retains the linearity of the sensing parameter estimation problem. We first estimate the angle-of-arrivals (AoAs) of multipaths and use them to spatially filter the CSI. Then, we propose a KF-based CSI enhancer that exploits the estimation of Doppler with CFO as the prior information to significantly suppress the time-varying noise-like TO terms in spatially filtered CSIs. Subsequently, we can estimate the accurate ranges of UE and the scatterers based on the KF-enhanced CSI. Finally, we identify the UE's AoA and range estimation and locate UE, then locate the dumb scatterers using the bi-static system. Simulation results validate the proposed scheme. The localization root mean square error of the proposed method is about 20 dB lower than the benchmarking scheme.

Complex CNN CSI Enhancer for Integrated Sensing and Communications

In this paper, we propose a novel complex convolutional neural network (CNN) CSI enhancer for integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), which exploits the correlation between the sensing parameters (such as angle-of-arrival and range) and the channel state information (CSI) to significantly improve the CSI estimation accuracy and further enhance the sensing accuracy. Within the CNN CSI enhancer, we use the complex-valued computation layers to form the CNN, which maintains the phase information of CSI. We also transform the CSI into the sparse angle-delay domain, leading to heatmap images with prominent peaks that can be efficiently processed by CNN. Based on the enhanced CSI outputs, we further propose a novel biased fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based sensing scheme for improving the range sensing accuracy, by artificially introducing phase biasing terms. Extensive simulation results show that the ISAC complex CNN CSI enhancer can converge within 30 training epochs. The normalized mean square error (NMSE) of its CSI estimates is about 17 dB lower than that of the linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimator, and the bit error rate (BER) of demodulation using the enhanced CSI estimation approaches that with perfect CSI. Finally, the range estimation MSE of the proposed biased FFT-based sensing method approaches that of the subspace-based sensing method, at a much lower complexity.

CMLM-CSE: Based on Conditional MLM Contrastive Learning for Sentence Embeddings

Traditional comparative learning sentence embedding directly uses the encoder to extract sentence features, and then passes in the comparative loss function for learning. However, this method pays too much attention to the sentence body and ignores the influence of some words in the sentence on the sentence semantics. To this end, we propose CMLM-CSE, an unsupervised contrastive learning framework based on conditional MLM. On the basis of traditional contrastive learning, an additional auxiliary network is added to integrate sentence embedding to perform MLM tasks, forcing sentence embedding to learn more masked word information. Finally, when Bertbase was used as the pretraining language model, we exceeded SimCSE by 0.55 percentage points on average in textual similarity tasks, and when Robertabase was used as the pretraining language model, we exceeded SimCSE by 0.3 percentage points on average in textual similarity tasks.

On Manipulating Signals of User-Item Graph: A Jacobi Polynomial-based Graph Collaborative Filtering

Collaborative filtering (CF) is an important research direction in recommender systems that aims to make recommendations given the information on user-item interactions. Graph CF has attracted more and more attention in recent years due to its effectiveness in leveraging high-order information in the user-item bipartite graph for better recommendations. Specifically, recent studies show the success of graph neural networks (GNN) for CF is attributed to its low-pass filtering effects. However, current researches lack a study of how different signal components contributes to recommendations, and how to design strategies to properly use them well. To this end, from the view of spectral transformation, we analyze the important factors that a graph filter should consider to achieve better performance. Based on the discoveries, we design JGCF, an efficient and effective method for CF based on Jacobi polynomial bases and frequency decomposition strategies. Extensive experiments on four widely used public datasets show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed methods, which brings at most 27.06% performance gain on Alibaba-iFashion. Besides, the experimental results also show that JGCF is better at handling sparse datasets, which shows potential in making recommendations for cold-start users.

To Copy Rather Than Memorize: A Vertical Learning Paradigm for Knowledge Graph Completion

Embedding models have shown great power in knowledge graph completion (KGC) task. By learning structural constraints for each training triple, these methods implicitly memorize intrinsic relation rules to infer missing links. However, this paper points out that the multi-hop relation rules are hard to be reliably memorized due to the inherent deficiencies of such implicit memorization strategy, making embedding models underperform in predicting links between distant entity pairs. To alleviate this problem, we present Vertical Learning Paradigm (VLP), which extends embedding models by allowing to explicitly copy target information from related factual triples for more accurate prediction. Rather than solely relying on the implicit memory, VLP directly provides additional cues to improve the generalization ability of embedding models, especially making the distant link prediction significantly easier. Moreover, we also propose a novel relative distance based negative sampling technique (ReD) for more effective optimization. Experiments demonstrate the validity and generality of our proposals on two standard benchmarks. Our code is available at https://github.com/rui9812/VLP.

Fairness-aware Cross-Domain Recommendation

Cross-Domain Recommendation (CDR) is an effective way to alleviate the cold-start problem. However, previous work severely ignores fairness and bias when learning the mapping function, which is used to obtain the representations for fresh users in the target domain. To study this problem, in this paper, we propose a Fairness-aware Cross-Domain Recommendation model, called FairCDR. Our method achieves user-oriented group fairness by learning the fairness-aware mapping function. Since the overlapping data are quite limited and distributionally biased, FairCDR leverages abundant non-overlapping users and interactions to help alleviate these problems. Considering that each individual has different influence on model fairness, we propose a new reweighing method based on Influence Function (IF) to reduce unfairness while maintaining recommendation accuracy. Extensive experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model.

On-the-Fly Communication-and-Computing for Distributed Tensor Decomposition Over MIMO Channels

Distributed tensor decomposition (DTD) is a fundamental data-analytics technique that extracts latent important properties from high-dimensional multi-attribute datasets distributed over edge devices. Conventionally its wireless implementation follows a one-shot approach that first computes local results at devices using local data and then aggregates them to a server with communication-efficient techniques such as over-the-air computation (AirComp) for global computation. Such implementation is confronted with the issues of limited storage-and-computation capacities and link interruption, which motivates us to propose a framework of on-the-fly communication-and-computing (FlyCom$^2$) in this work. The proposed framework enables streaming computation with low complexity by leveraging a random sketching technique and achieves progressive global aggregation through the integration of progressive uploading and multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) AirComp. To develop FlyCom$^2$, an on-the-fly sub-space estimator is designed to take real-time sketches accumulated at the server to generate online estimates for the decomposition. Its performance is evaluated by deriving both deterministic and probabilistic error bounds using the perturbation theory and concentration of measure. Both results reveal that the decomposition error is inversely proportional to the population of sketching observations received by the server. To further rein in the noise effect on the error, we propose a threshold-based scheme to select a subset of sufficiently reliable received sketches for DTD at the server. Experimental results validate the performance gain of the proposed selection algorithm and show that compared to its one-shot counterparts, the proposed FlyCom$^2$ achieves comparable (even better in the case of large eigen-gaps) decomposition accuracy besides dramatically reducing devices' complexity costs.

Point convolutional neural network algorithm for Ising model ground state research based on spring vibration

The ground state search of the Ising model can be used to solve many combinatorial optimization problems. Under the current computer architecture, an Ising ground state search algorithm suitable for hardware computing is necessary for solving practical problems. Inspired by the potential energy conversion of springs, we propose a point convolutional neural network algorithm for ground state search based on spring vibration model, called Spring-Ising Algorithm. Spring-Ising Algorithm regards the spin as a moving mass point connected to a spring and establish the equation of motion for all spins. Spring-Ising Algorithm can be mapped on the GPU or AI chips through the basic structure of the neural network for fast and efficient parallel computing. The algorithm has very productive results for solving the Ising model and has been test in the recognized test benchmark K2000. The algorithm introduces the concept of dynamic equilibrium to achieve a more detailed local search by dynamically adjusting the weight of the Ising model in the spring oscillation model. Finally, there is the simple hardware test speed evaluation. Spring-Ising Algorithm can provide the possibility to calculate the Ising model on a chip which focuses on accelerating neural network calculations.

Adaptive Cluster Thresholding with Spatial Activation Guarantees Using All-resolutions Inference

Classical cluster inference is hampered by the spatial specificity paradox. Given the null-hypothesis of no active voxels, the alternative hypothesis states that there is at least one active voxel in a cluster. Hence, the larger the cluster the less we know about where activation in the cluster is. Rosenblatt et al. (2018) proposed a post-hoc inference method, All-resolutions Inference (ARI), that addresses this paradox by estimating the number of active voxels of any brain region. ARI allows users to choose arbitrary brain regions and returns a simultaneous lower confidence bound of the true discovery proportion (TDP) for each of them, retaining control of the family-wise error rate. ARI does not, however, guide users to regions with high enough TDP. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm that outputs all maximal supra-threshold clusters, for which ARI gives a TDP lower confidence bound that is at least a chosen threshold, for any number of thresholds that need not be chosen a priori nor all at once. After a preprocessing step in linearithmic time, the algorithm only takes linear time in the size of its output. We demonstrate the algorithm with an application to two fMRI datasets. For both datasets, we found several clusters whose TDP confidently meets or exceeds a given threshold in less than a second.

Cross-domain Augmentation Networks for Click-Through Rate Prediction

Data sparsity is an important issue for click-through rate (CTR) prediction, particularly when user-item interactions is too sparse to learn a reliable model. Recently, many works on cross-domain CTR (CDCTR) prediction have been developed in an effort to leverage meaningful data from a related domain. However, most existing CDCTR works have an impractical limitation that requires homogeneous inputs (\textit{i.e.} shared feature fields) across domains, and CDCTR with heterogeneous inputs (\textit{i.e.} varying feature fields) across domains has not been widely explored but is an urgent and important research problem. In this work, we propose a cross-domain augmentation network (CDAnet) being able to perform knowledge transfer between two domains with \textit{heterogeneous inputs}. Specifically, CDAnet contains a designed translation network and an augmentation network which are trained sequentially. The translation network is able to compute features from two domains with heterogeneous inputs separately by designing two independent branches, and then learn meaningful cross-domain knowledge using a designed cross-supervised feature translator. Later the augmentation network encodes the learned cross-domain knowledge via feature translation performed in the latent space and fine-tune the model for final CTR prediction. Through extensive experiments on two public benchmarks and one industrial production dataset, we show CDAnet can learn meaningful translated features and largely improve the performance of CTR prediction. CDAnet has been conducted online A/B test in image2product retrieval at Taobao app over 20days, bringing an absolute \textbf{0.11 point} CTR improvement and a relative \textbf{1.26\%} GMV increase.

Learning Node Representations against Perturbations

Recent graph neural networks (GNN) has achieved remarkable performance in node representation learning. One key factor of GNN's success is the \emph{smoothness} property on node representations. Despite this, most GNN models are fragile to the perturbations on graph inputs and could learn unreliable node representations. In this paper, we study how to learn node representations against perturbations in GNN. Specifically, we consider that a node representation should remain stable under slight perturbations on the input, and node representations from different structures should be identifiable, which two are termed as the \emph{stability} and \emph{identifiability} on node representations, respectively. To this end, we propose a novel model called Stability-Identifiability GNN Against Perturbations (SIGNNAP) that learns reliable node representations in an unsupervised manner. SIGNNAP formalizes the \emph{stability} and \emph{identifiability} by a contrastive objective and preserves the \emph{smoothness} with existing GNN backbones. The proposed method is a generic framework that can be equipped with many other backbone models (e.g. GCN, GraphSage and GAT). Extensive experiments on six benchmarks under both transductive and inductive learning setups of node classification demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Codes and data are available online:~\url{https://github.com/xuChenSJTU/SIGNNAP-master-online}

AG3D: Learning to Generate 3D Avatars from 2D Image Collections

While progress in 2D generative models of human appearance has been rapid, many applications require 3D avatars that can be animated and rendered. Unfortunately, most existing methods for learning generative models of 3D humans with diverse shape and appearance require 3D training data, which is limited and expensive to acquire. The key to progress is hence to learn generative models of 3D avatars from abundant unstructured 2D image collections. However, learning realistic and complete 3D appearance and geometry in this under-constrained setting remains challenging, especially in the presence of loose clothing such as dresses. In this paper, we propose a new adversarial generative model of realistic 3D people from 2D images. Our method captures shape and deformation of the body and loose clothing by adopting a holistic 3D generator and integrating an efficient and flexible articulation module. To improve realism, we train our model using multiple discriminators while also integrating geometric cues in the form of predicted 2D normal maps. We experimentally find that our method outperforms previous 3D- and articulation-aware methods in terms of geometry and appearance. We validate the effectiveness of our model and the importance of each component via systematic ablation studies.

Downlink and Uplink Cooperative Joint Communication and Sensing

Downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) joint communication and sensing (JCAS) technologies have been individually studied for realizing sensing using DL and UL communication signals, respectively. Since the spatial environment and JCAS channels in the consecutive DL and UL JCAS time slots are generally unchanged, DL and UL JCAS may be jointly designed to achieve better sensing performance. In this paper, we propose a novel DL and UL cooperative (DUC) JCAS scheme, including a unified multiple signal classification (MUSIC)-based JCAS sensing scheme for both DL and UL JCAS and a DUC JCAS fusion method. The unified MUSIC JCAS sensing scheme can accurately estimate AoA, range, and Doppler based on a unified MUSIC-based sensing module. The DUC JCAS fusion method can distinguish between the sensing results of the communication user and other dumb targets. Moreover, by exploiting the channel reciprocity, it can also improve the sensing and channel state information (CSI) estimation accuracy. Extensive simulation results validate the proposed DUC JCAS scheme. It is shown that the minimum location and velocity estimation mean square errors of the proposed DUC JCAS scheme are about 20 dB lower than those of the state-of-the-art separated DL and UL JCAS schemes.

Towards Carbon-Neutral Edge Computing: Greening Edge AI by Harnessing Spot and Future Carbon Markets

Provisioning dynamic machine learning (ML) inference as a service for artificial intelligence (AI) applications of edge devices faces many challenges, including the trade-off among accuracy loss, carbon emission, and unknown future costs. Besides, many governments are launching carbon emission rights (CER) for operators to reduce carbon emissions further to reverse climate change. Facing these challenges, to achieve carbon-aware ML task offloading under limited carbon emission rights thus to achieve green edge AI, we establish a joint ML task offloading and CER purchasing problem, intending to minimize the accuracy loss under the long-term time-averaged cost budget of purchasing the required CER. However, considering the uncertainty of the resource prices, the CER purchasing prices, the carbon intensity of sites, and ML tasks' arrivals, it is hard to decide the optimal policy online over a long-running period time. To overcome this difficulty, we leverage the two-timescale Lyapunov optimization technique, of which the $T$-slot drift-plus-penalty methodology inspires us to propose an online algorithm that purchases CER in multiple timescales (on-preserved in carbon future market and on-demanded in the carbon spot market) and makes decisions about where to offload ML tasks. Considering the NP-hardness of the $T$-slot problems, we further propose the resource-restricted randomized dependent rounding algorithm to help to gain the near-optimal solution with no help of any future information. Our theoretical analysis and extensive simulation results driven by the real carbon intensity trace show the superior performance of the proposed algorithms.

Sensing Performance of Cooperative Joint Sensing-Communication UAV Network

We propose a novel cooperative joint sensing-communication (JSC) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) network that can achieve downward-looking detection and transmit detection data simultaneously using the same time and frequency resources by exploiting the beam sharing scheme. The UAV network consists of a UAV that works as a fusion center (FCUAV) and multiple subordinate UAVs (SU). All UAVs fly at the fixed height. FCUAV integrates the sensing data of network and carries out downward-looking detection. SUs carry out downward-looking detection and transmit the sensing data to FCUAV. To achieve the beam sharing scheme, each UAV is equipped with a novel JSC antenna array that is composed of both the sensing subarray (SenA) and the communication subarray (ComA) in order to generate the sensing beam (SenB) and the communication beam (ComB) for detection and communication, respectively. SenB and ComB of each UAV share a total amount of radio power. Because of the spatial orthogonality of communication and sensing, SenB and ComB can be easily formed orthogonally. The upper bound of average cooperative sensing area (UB-ACSA) is defined as the metric to measure the sensing performance, which is related to the mutual sensing interference and the communication capacity. Numerical simulations prove the validity of the theoretical expressions for UB-ACSA of the network. The optimal number of UAVs and the optimal SenB power are identified under the total power constraint.

Code-Division OFDM Joint Communication and Sensing System for 6G Machine-type Communication

The joint communication and sensing (JCS) system can provide higher spectrum efficiency and load-saving for 6G machine-type communication (MTC) applications by merging necessary communication and sensing abilities with unified spectrum and transceivers. In order to suppress the mutual interference between the communication and radar sensing signals to improve the communication reliability and radar sensing accuracy, we propose a novel code-division orthogonal frequency division multiplex (CD-OFDM) JCS MTC system, where MTC users can simultaneously and continuously conduct communication and sensing with each other. {\color{black} We propose a novel CD-OFDM JCS signal and corresponding successive-interference-cancellation (SIC) based signal processing technique that obtains code-division multiplex (CDM) gain, which is compatible with the prevalent orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) communication system.} To model the unified JCS signal transmission and reception process, we propose a novel unified JCS channel model. Finally, the simulation and numerical results are shown to verify the feasibility of the CD-OFDM JCS MTC system {\color{black} and the error propagation performance}. We show that the CD-OFDM JCS MTC system can achieve not only more reliable communication but also comparably robust radar sensing compared with the precedent OFDM JCS system, especially in low signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) regime.

Dually Enhanced Propensity Score Estimation in Sequential Recommendation

Sequential recommender systems train their models based on a large amount of implicit user feedback data and may be subject to biases when users are systematically under/over-exposed to certain items. Unbiased learning based on inverse propensity scores (IPS), which estimate the probability of observing a user-item pair given the historical information, has been proposed to address the issue. In these methods, propensity score estimation is usually limited to the view of item, that is, treating the feedback data as sequences of items that interacted with the users. However, the feedback data can also be treated from the view of user, as the sequences of users that interact with the items. Moreover, the two views can jointly enhance the propensity score estimation. Inspired by the observation, we propose to estimate the propensity scores from the views of user and item, called Dually Enhanced Propensity Score Estimation (DEPS). Specifically, given a target user-item pair and the corresponding item and user interaction sequences, DEPS firstly constructs a time-aware causal graph to represent the user-item observational probability. According to the graph, two complementary propensity scores are estimated from the views of item and user, respectively, based on the same set of user feedback data. Finally, two transformers are designed to make the final preference prediction. Theoretical analysis showed the unbiasedness and variance of DEPS. Experimental results on three publicly available and an industrial datasets demonstrated that DEPS can significantly outperform the state-of-the-art baselines.
