Log-F-penalized Conditional Logistic Regression for Sparse Data

We investigate penalized likelihood methods for estimation and inference in conditional logistic regression. The standard conditional maximum likelihood estimator is known to be biased away from zero in small or sparse matched case-control studies. A widely used remedy is Firth's penalized likelihood approach, which has good frequentist operating characteristics but provides limited control over the degree of shrinkage applied to individual regression coefficients. We develop point and interval estimators by penalizing the conditional likelihood with independent log-$F$ distributions. The log-\(F\)-penalized approach allows analysts to calibrate shrinkage using interpretable prior assumptions about plausible effect sizes. We also provide practical guidance for calibrating the amount of shrinkage and show that the method can be implemented through data augmentation using standard conditional logistic regression software. We illustrate the methods using data from (i) a study of maternal exposure to diethylstilbestrol and the risk of vaginal cancer in daughters, and (ii) a genetic association study of type 2 diabetes. We then compare the log-$F$-penalized approach with Firth's penalized likelihood method in a simulation study. In simulations, the log-$F$-penalized estimators had confidence-interval coverage comparable to that of Firth's method and lower mean squared error, with similar type~1 error rates and power. These results support the use of log-$F$-penalized conditional logistic regression for inference in sparse matched and stratified studies.

The Hidden Footprint: Making Storage a First-Class Metric for LLM Agent Evaluation

LLM agent benchmarks measure task completion, reliability, and inference cost, but not the persistent data an agent run leaves on disk, including logs, context snapshots, checkpoints, and debug traces. We introduce AgentFootprint, a cross-framework benchmark of post-run agent storage footprint. Its serialization-aware metric suite measures total retention, channel composition, duplication, growth, compressibility, and conversation-history reconstructability. It addresses a measurement trap: naive byte-level measurement understates duplication by an order of magnitude because database paging and JSON escaping obscure repeated content. A fixed-trace control separates agent-generated logical volume from persistence-layer amplification: replaying the same trajectory through seven persisting frameworks yields a 6.7x spread. Under identical models, tools, and tasks, configurations with 100% accuracy differ by 15.7x in retained bytes, although their defaults support different recovery and audit capabilities. Three full-history configurations grow superlinearly on a repeated-observation stress task. Exported trajectories from 108 instance-normalized SWE-bench Verified submissions span three orders of magnitude per instance, with no detectable correlation with resolve rate. A content-addressed store reduces retention by 4.8x-32.7x while preserving every reconstructability score. These results establish persistent storage as a resource metric to report jointly with accuracy and reconstructability.

Compile, Then Page: Executable SOP Programs and a Capability-Gated Runtime for Procedural LLM Agents

Enterprise agents must follow long-horizon, conditional, safety-critical standard operating procedures (SOPs). We compile machine-readable SOP constraints into executable pseudo-code and run them with a program-guided (PG) stack machine that pages the active frame while an LLM performs semantic execution. A three-arm SOPBench study across six models separates representation from runtime: compiled text never significantly hurts and gains up to 16.0 points where official prose underperforms. Runtime guidance is capability-gated. Two strong models independently show positive seven-domain PG contrasts (58:19 and 75:31 discordant pairs), whereas weak models are harmed. A full-program cursor ablation (active frame first, complete program retained) recovers much of the strong-model refusal gain; selective visibility adds a smaller improvement. Paired probe and audit measurements track this divide to spontaneous state discipline rather than reconstruction ability. On Bank the three primary arms rise from 70.4 to 86.4 to 92.8, with 100% refusal correctness. Practical guidance: compile first; enable active-frame paging only after a model-level discipline check.

Post-starburst Galaxies with Active Galactic Nucleus: Properties and Evolutionary Sequences

Post-starburst (PSB) galaxies, identified by strong Balmer absorption and weak nebular emission, provide a key laboratory for studying rapid quenching. Using the final data release of the SDSS-IV MaNGA survey, we follow the traditional PSB selection criteria of Chen et al. (2019) and develop a new method to identify regions that simultaneously exhibit PSB features and nuclear activities (AGN-PSBs). Our final sample comprises 48 AGN-PSBs, 92 central PSBs (CPSBs), 89 ring-like PSBs (RPSBs), and 828 irregular PSBs (IPSBs). We find the global and spatially resolved properties of CPSBs and RPSBs are consistent with the results of Chen et al. (2019). In this work, we focus on the properties of AGN-PSBs, comparing them with CPSBs, RPSBs, and control galaxies. Similar to CPSBs and RPSBs, AGN-PSBs show positive $\mathrm{D}_{n}4000$ gradients relative to negative $\mathrm{D}_{n}4000$ gradients of their controls, which indicates younger stellar populations in the central region than that in the outskirt. Among the three sub-types, high-mass CPSBs (H-CPSBs, with $\log(M_{*}/M_{\odot})>9.5$) display the highest incidence of merger remnants and gas--star kinematic misalignment, consistent with a merger/interaction-dominated origin. AGN-PSBs and RPSBs, however, show lower and comparable fractions of merger remnants and gas--star kinematic misalignment, favoring less violent external mechanisms. Based on radial profiles of mass-weighted age and $V_{\rm star}/\sigma_{\rm star}$, we suggest that RPSBs can evolve into AGN-PSBs, whereas H-CPSBs likely follow a distinct evolutionary pathway. The existence of RPSBs and IPSBs also indicates that AGN feedback is not a necessary condition for the formation of PSB.

IB-HFN: Information Bottleneck-Driven SAR-Optical Fusion Network for High-Fidelity Cloud Removal

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR)-assisted optical cloud removal aims to recover surface information obscured by clouds in optical remote sensing images by exploiting complementary SAR observations. Existing multimodal fusion methods typically rely on direct spatial concatenation and pixel-wise supervision, which can propagate SAR speckle noise into optical reconstruction and lead to over-smoothed results. To address these limitations, we propose an Information Bottleneck-driven High-Fidelity Network (IB-HFN) for SAR-assisted optical cloud removal. IB-HFN employs a dual-stream backbone to preserve modality-specific representations before deep semantic fusion, thereby mitigating premature cross-modal contamination. At the fusion stage, we introduce a Spatial Information Bottleneck Fusion module that compresses SAR features through a channel-wise variational information bottleneck to suppress unstructured speckle noise. In parallel, a local-global gating mechanism predicts clear-sky regions and routes reliable optical details through a Dirac-initialized skip connection, decoupling noise suppression from texture preservation. We further develop a joint optimization strategy that integrates feature-level bottleneck regularization with image-level constraints on reconstruction accuracy, structural consistency, spectral fidelity, and contrastive sharpness. A dynamic weighting schedule balances these objectives to stabilize training and reduce hazy artifacts. Experiments on the SEN12MS-CR dataset under challenging spatio-temporal splits demonstrate that IB-HFN achieves superior structural preservation and spectral fidelity over existing methods.

Fused Gromov-Wasserstein Distance with Feature Selection

Fused Gromov-Wasserstein (FGW) distances provide a principled framework for comparing objects by jointly aligning structure and node features. However, existing FGW formulations treat all features uniformly, which limits interpretability and robustness in high-dimensional settings where many features may be irrelevant or noisy. We introduce FGW distances with feature selection, which incorporate adaptive feature suppression weights into the FGW objective to selectively downweight or suppress differentiating features during alignment. We propose two approaches: (1) regularized FGW with Lasso and Ridge penalties, and (2) FGW with simplex-constrained weights, including groupwise extensions. We analyze the resulting models and establish their key theoretical properties, including bounds relative to classical FGW and Gromov-Wasserstein distances, and metric behavior. An efficient alternating minimization algorithm is developed. Experiments illustrate how feature suppression enhances interpretability and reveals task-relevant structure, with a special application to computational redistricting.

High-performance Sources of Multidimensionally Engineered Quantum Light Based on Monolithic Microcavity-metalens Interfaces

The ultimate non-classic light sources for modern photonic quantum technology require on-demand generation of indistinguishable quantum light with high brightness and flexible engineering of quantum emission in multiple degrees of freedom. In this work, we present monolithic microcavity-metalens interfaces consisting of quantum-dot-micropillar single-photon sources and ultra-thin metalenses accurately aligned on opposite sides of an III-V compound semiconductor chip. The pronounced cavity quantum electrodynamics effect enabled by the micropillar cavity facilitates single-photon emission from quantum dots with simultaneous high degrees of single-photon purity, source brightness and photon indistinguishability while the multi-functional metalenses concurrently tailor quantum emission in multiple physical degrees of freedom including radiation divergence, emission directionality, polarization state and orbital angular momentum (OAM). Furthermore, high-fidelity polarization-OAM entanglement and single photons with local spin topologies are successfully generated in our integrated device. In particular, we demonstrate stable propagations of single-photon skrymions in atmospheric turbulence and reveal their topological advantages over the conventional structured quantum light. Our work advances the research fields of integrated quantum photonics and meta-optics, providing integrated high-dimensional quantum light sources for advanced photonic quantum science and technology.

Hybrid Integration of Quantum Dot Single Photon Sources with Lithium Tantalate Photonics for On Chip Routing

A promising pathway towards scalable quantum photonic processors involves the simultaneous integration of deterministic single-photon sources, low-loss photonic circuitry, and fast reconfigurability. Thin-film lithium tantalate on insulator (LTOI) offers an exceptional electro-optic response and low optical loss at 900 nm wavelength band, yet its lack of efficient quantum emitters has hindered progress toward fully integrated quantum technologies. Here, we demonstrate heterogeneous integration of indium arsenide quantum dots (QDs) with low-loss reconfigurable LTOI waveguides using micro-transfer printing. By directly butt-coupling tapered gallium arsenide waveguides with inversely tapered LTOI waveguides, we achieve robust and alignment-tolerant inter-waveguide coupling. The hybrid chip operates at cryogenic temperatures, enabling deterministic routing of successively emitted single photons from the QDs with a halfwave voltage-length product, confirming the cryogenic stability of LTOI's electro-optic coefficient. These results establish the first demonstration of high-speed on-chip routing of single photons with hybrid QD-LTOI circuits, providing a scalable pathway toward integrated quantum photonic processors.

Meta-cavity Quantum Electrodynamics

Cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED) harnesses light-matter interactions to produce nonclassical light states. However, a fundamental challenge lies in simultaneously achieving Purcell enhancement and tailored wavefront control within a single cavity, due to conflicting resonator requirements. Here, we overcome this limitation by demonstrating triggered single-photon emission with customizable wavefronts from semiconductor quantum dots embedded in geometric-phase metacavities. These monolithic devices - only 200 nm thick - deliver Purcell-enhanced emission alongside spin-momentum-locked radiation, vortex beams, and holographic patterns. The meta-atom lattice provides high-Q optical confinement, while spatially modulated orientations enable efficient outcoupling of photons with designed states. This work establishes a new paradigm for intrinsically multiplexing metasurface-based wavefront shaping with cQED, enabling high-performance quantum light sources from subwavelength-scale monolithic platforms.

USAD: End-to-End Human Activity Recognition via Diffusion Model with Spatiotemporal Attention

The primary objective of human activity recognition (HAR) is to infer ongoing human actions from sensor data, a task that finds broad applications in health monitoring, safety protection, and sports analysis. Despite proliferating research, HAR still faces key challenges, including the scarcity of labeled samples for rare activities, insufficient extraction of high-level features, and suboptimal model performance on lightweight devices. To address these issues, this paper proposes a comprehensive optimization approach centered on multi-attention interaction mechanisms. First, an unsupervised, statistics-guided diffusion model is employed to perform data augmentation, thereby alleviating the problems of labeled data scarcity and severe class imbalance. Second, a multi-branch spatio-temporal interaction network is designed, which captures multi-scale features of sequential data through parallel residual branches with 3*3, 5*5, and 7*7 convolutional kernels. Simultaneously, temporal attention mechanisms are incorporated to identify critical time points, while spatial attention enhances inter-sensor interactions. A cross-branch feature fusion unit is further introduced to improve the overall feature representation capability. Finally, an adaptive multi-loss function fusion strategy is integrated, allowing for dynamic adjustment of loss weights and overall model optimization. Experimental results on three public datasets, WISDM, PAMAP2, and OPPORTUNITY, demonstrate that the proposed unsupervised data augmentation spatio-temporal attention diffusion network (USAD) achieves accuracies of 98.84%, 93.81%, and 80.92% respectively, significantly outperforming existing approaches. Furthermore, practical deployment on embedded devices verifies the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed method.

On-chip Non-Hermitian Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics

Exceptional points (EPs) promise revolutionary control over quantum light-matter interactions. Here, we experimentally demonstrate flexible and reversible engineering of quantum vacuum fluctuation in an integrated microcavity supporting chiral Eps. We develop a hybrid lithium niobate (LN)-GaAs quantum photonic platform, seamlessly combining high-quality quantum emitters, a low-loss photonic circuit, efficient electro-optic (EO) effect, and local strain actuator in a single device. Chiral EPs are implemented by dynamically tuning the coupling between the modes associated with a micro-ring resonator, resulting in anomalous spontaneous emission dynamic with a 7-fold modulation of the lifetime (120 ps to 850 ps). Meanwhile, we reshape single-photon spectra via cavity local density of states (LDOS) engineering and generate non-Lorentzian spectral profiles: squared-Lorentzian, Fano-like, and EP-induced transparency (EPIT), a suppression of emission at zero detuning. This work unveils exotic cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED) effects unique to EPs and establishes a universal paradigm for non-Hermitian quantum photonics.

Single-mode InAs/GaAs quantum-dot DFB laser with oxidized aperture confined surface grating

InAs/GaAs quantum dot (QD) distributed feedback (DFB) lasers are promising candidates for next-generation photonic integrated circuits. We present a design that incorporates an oxidized aperture confined surface grating (OASG) structure, which reduces non-radiative recombination losses and surface optical losses sustained in device fabricated by conventionally fabrication methods including etching and regrowth. The OASG-DFB laser eliminates the need for ridge waveguide etching and avoids instability in sidewall grating coupling. Experimental results show stable single-mode operation, a maximum output power of 15.1 mW, a side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of 44 dB, and a narrow linewidth of 1.79 MHz. This approach simplifies fabrication, reduces costs, and enhances the scalability of GaAs-based QD DFB lasers for applications in optical communication and photonic integration.

In-situ three-dimensional strain engineering of solid-state quantum emitters in photonic structures towards scalable quantum networks

Solid-state quantum emitters are pivotal for modern photonic quantum technology, yet their inherent spectral inhomogeneity imposes a critical challenge in pursuing scalable quantum network. Here, we develop a cryogenic-compatible strain-engineering platform based on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp that is not obviously working properly at cryogenic temperature. In-situ three-dimensional (3D) strain control is achieved for quantum dots (QDs) embedded in photonic nanostructures. The compliant PDMS enables independent tuning of emission energy and elimination of fine structure splitting (FSS) of single QDs, as demonstrated by a 7 meV spectral shift with a near-vanishing FSS in circular Bragg resonators and an unprecedented 15 meV tuning range in the micropillar. The PDMS-based 3D strain-engineering platform, compatible with diverse photonic structures at cryogenic temperature, provides a powerful and versatile tool for exploring fundamental strain-related physics and advancing integrated photonic quantum technology.

CMD-HAR: Cross-Modal Disentanglement for Wearable Human Activity Recognition

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is a fundamental technology for numerous human - centered intelligent applications. Although deep learning methods have been utilized to accelerate feature extraction, issues such as multimodal data mixing, activity heterogeneity, and complex model deployment remain largely unresolved. Bailicai: A Domain-Optimized Retrieval-Augmented Generation Framework for Medical Applications

Large Language Models (LLMs) have exhibited remarkable proficiency in natural language understanding, prompting extensive exploration of their potential applications across diverse domains. In the medical domain, open-source LLMs have demonstrated moderate efficacy following domain-specific fine-tuning; however, they remain substantially inferior to proprietary models such as GPT-4 and GPT-3.5. These open-source models encounter limitations in the comprehensiveness of domain-specific knowledge and exhibit a propensity for 'hallucinations' during text generation. To mitigate these issues, researchers have implemented the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach, which augments LLMs with background information from external knowledge bases while preserving the model's internal parameters. However, document noise can adversely affect performance, and the application of RAG in the medical field remains in its nascent stages. This study presents the Bailicai framework: a novel integration of retrieval-augmented generation with large language models optimized for the medical domain. The Bailicai framework augments the performance of LLMs in medicine through the implementation of four sub-modules. Experimental results demonstrate that the Bailicai approach surpasses existing medical domain LLMs across multiple medical benchmarks and exceeds the performance of GPT-3.5. Furthermore, the Bailicai method effectively attenuates the prevalent issue of hallucinations in medical applications of LLMs and ameliorates the noise-related challenges associated with traditional RAG techniques when processing irrelevant or pseudo-relevant documents.

High power GaSb-based distributed feedback laser with laterally coupled dielectric gratings at 1.95{\mu}m

Traditional Distributed Feedback (DFB) or Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR) lasers typically utilize buried gratings as frequency-selective optical feedback mechanisms. However, the fabrication of such gratings often necessitates regrowth processes, which can pose technical challenges for materials platforms such as GaAs and GaSb. Metal gratings were also used for GaSb lasers but they introduce additional absorption loss that limits device efficiency and output power. In this paper, we introduce a novel laterally coupled dielectric Bragg grating structure, which enables highly controllable, deterministic, and stable coupling between the grating and the optical mode. Our device demonstrates a continuous-wave output power of 47.02 mW at room temperature, exhibiting stable single-mode operation from 300-1000 mA and achieving a maximum side mode suppression ratio of 46.7 dB. These results underscore the innovative lateral coupled dielectric grating as a feasible and technologically superior approach for fabricating DFB and DBR lasers, which hold universal applicability across different material platforms and wavelength bands.

Giant second harmonic generation in supertwisted WS2 spirals grown in step edge particle induced non-Euclidean surfaces

In moir\'e crystals resulting from the stacking of twisted two-dimensional (2D) layered materials, a subtle adjustment in the twist angle surprisingly gives rise to a wide range of correlated optical and electrical properties. Herein, we report the synthesis of supertwisted WS2 spirals and the observation of giant second harmonic generation (SHG) in these spirals. Supertwisted WS2 spirals featuring different twist angles are synthesized on a Euclidean or step-edge particle-induced non-Euclidean surface using a carefully designed water-assisted chemical vapor deposition. We observed an oscillatory dependence of SHG intensity on layer number, attributed to atomically phase-matched nonlinear dipoles within layers of supertwisted spiral crystals where inversion symmetry is restored. Through an investigation into the twist angle evolution of SHG intensity, we discovered that the stacking model between layers plays a crucial role in determining the nonlinearity, and the SHG signals in supertwisted spirals exhibit enhancements by a factor of 2 to 136 when compared with the SHG of the single-layer structure. These findings provide an efficient method for the rational growth of 2D twisted structures and the implementation of twist angle adjustable endowing them great potential for exploring strong coupling correlation physics and applications in the field of twistronics.
