ST-Mamba: Spatial-Temporal Selective State Space Model for Traffic Flow Prediction

Traffic flow prediction, a critical aspect of intelligent transportation systems, has been increasingly popular in the field of artificial intelligence, driven by the availability of extensive traffic data. The current challenges of traffic flow prediction lie in integrating diverse factors while balancing the trade-off between computational complexity and the precision necessary for effective long-range and large-scale predictions. To address these challenges, we introduce a Spatial-Temporal Selective State Space (ST-Mamba) model, which is the first to leverage the power of spatial-temporal learning in traffic flow prediction without using graph modeling. The ST-Mamba model can effectively capture the long-range dependency for traffic flow data, thereby avoiding the issue of over-smoothing. The proposed ST-Mamba model incorporates an effective Spatial-Temporal Mixer (ST-Mixer) to seamlessly integrate spatial and temporal data processing into a unified framework and employs a Spatial-Temporal Selective State Space (ST-SSM) block to improve computational efficiency. The proposed ST-Mamba model, specifically designed for spatial-temporal data, simplifies processing procedure and enhances generalization capabilities, thereby significantly improving the accuracy of long-range traffic flow prediction. Compared to the previous state-of-the-art (SOTA) model, the proposed ST-Mamba model achieves a 61.11\% improvement in computational speed and increases prediction accuracy by 0.67\%. Extensive experiments with real-world traffic datasets demonstrate that the \textsf{ST-Mamba} model sets a new benchmark in traffic flow prediction, achieving SOTA performance in computational efficiency for both long- and short-range predictions and significantly improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of traffic management.

ST-MambaSync: The Complement of Mamba and Transformers for Spatial-Temporal in Traffic Flow Prediction

Accurate traffic flow prediction is crucial for optimizing traffic management, enhancing road safety, and reducing environmental impacts. Existing models face challenges with long sequence data, requiring substantial memory and computational resources, and often suffer from slow inference times due to the lack of a unified summary state. This paper introduces ST-MambaSync, an innovative traffic flow prediction model that combines transformer technology with the ST-Mamba block, representing a significant advancement in the field. We are the pioneers in employing the Mamba mechanism which is an attention mechanism integrated with ResNet within a transformer framework, which significantly enhances the model's explainability and performance. ST-MambaSync effectively addresses key challenges such as data length and computational efficiency, setting new benchmarks for accuracy and processing speed through comprehensive comparative analysis. This development has significant implications for urban planning and real-time traffic management, establishing a new standard in traffic flow prediction technology.

Broadband microwave-rate dark pulse microcombs in dissipation-engineered LiNbO$_3$ microresonators

Kerr microcombs generated in optical microresonators provide broadband light sources bridging optical and microwave signals. Their translation to thin-film lithium niobate unlocks second-order nonlinear optical interfaces such as electro-optic modulation and frequency doubling for completing comb functionalities. However, the strong Raman response of LiNbO$_3$ has complicated the formation of Kerr microcombs. Until now, dark pulse microcombs, requiring a double balance between Kerr nonlinearity and normal group velocity dispersion as well as gain and loss, have remained elusive in LiNbO$_3$ microresonators. Here, by incorporating dissipation engineering, we demonstrate dark pulse microcombs with 25 GHz repetition frequency and 200 nm span in a high-$Q$ LiNbO$_3$ microresonator. Resonances near the Raman-active wavelengths are strongly damped by controlling phase-matching conditions of a specially designed pulley coupler. The coherence and tunability of the dark pulse microcombs are also investigated. Our work provides a solution to realize high-power microcombs operating at microwave rates on LiNbO$_3$ chips, promising new opportunities for the monolithic integration of applications spanning communication to microwave photonics.

Deep Automated Mechanism Design for Integrating Ad Auction and Allocation in Feed

E-commerce platforms usually present an ordered list, mixed with several organic items and an advertisement, in response to each user's page view request. This list, the outcome of ad auction and allocation processes, directly impacts the platform's ad revenue and gross merchandise volume (GMV). Specifically, the ad auction determines which ad is displayed and the corresponding payment, while the ad allocation decides the display positions of the advertisement and organic items. The prevalent methods of segregating the ad auction and allocation into two distinct stages face two problems: 1) Ad auction does not consider externalities, such as the influence of actual display position and context on ad Click-Through Rate (CTR); 2) The ad allocation, which utilizes the auction-winning ad's payment to determine the display position dynamically, fails to maintain incentive compatibility (IC) for the advertisement. For instance, in the auction stage employing the traditional Generalized Second Price (GSP) , even if the winning ad increases its bid, its payment remains unchanged. This implies that the advertisement cannot secure a better position and thus loses the opportunity to achieve higher utility in the subsequent ad allocation stage. Previous research often focused on one of the two stages, neglecting the two-stage problem, which may result in suboptimal outcomes...

Model-Agnostic Human Preference Inversion in Diffusion Models

Efficient text-to-image generation remains a challenging task due to the high computational costs associated with the multi-step sampling in diffusion models. Although distillation of pre-trained diffusion models has been successful in reducing sampling steps, low-step image generation often falls short in terms of quality. In this study, we propose a novel sampling design to achieve high-quality one-step image generation aligning with human preferences, particularly focusing on exploring the impact of the prior noise distribution. Our approach, Prompt Adaptive Human Preference Inversion (PAHI), optimizes the noise distributions for each prompt based on human preferences without the need for fine-tuning diffusion models. Our experiments showcase that the tailored noise distributions significantly improve image quality with only a marginal increase in computational cost. Our findings underscore the importance of noise optimization and pave the way for efficient and high-quality text-to-image synthesis.

CCDSReFormer: Traffic Flow Prediction with a Criss-Crossed Dual-Stream Enhanced Rectified Transformer Model

Accurate, and effective traffic forecasting is vital for smart traffic systems, crucial in urban traffic planning and management. Current Spatio-Temporal Transformer models, despite their prediction capabilities, struggle with balancing computational efficiency and accuracy, favoring global over local information, and handling spatial and temporal data separately, limiting insight into complex interactions. We introduce the Criss-Crossed Dual-Stream Enhanced Rectified Transformer model (CCDSReFormer), which includes three innovative modules: Enhanced Rectified Spatial Self-attention (ReSSA), Enhanced Rectified Delay Aware Self-attention (ReDASA), and Enhanced Rectified Temporal Self-attention (ReTSA). These modules aim to lower computational needs via sparse attention, focus on local information for better traffic dynamics understanding, and merge spatial and temporal insights through a unique learning method. Extensive tests on six real-world datasets highlight CCDSReFormer's superior performance. An ablation study also confirms the significant impact of each component on the model's predictive accuracy, showcasing our model's ability to forecast traffic flow effectively.

LF-PGVIO: A Visual-Inertial-Odometry Framework for Large Field-of-View Cameras using Points and Geodesic Segments

In this paper, we propose LF-PGVIO, a Visual-Inertial-Odometry (VIO) framework for large Field-of-View (FoV) cameras with a negative plane using points and geodesic segments. The purpose of our research is to unleash the potential of point-line odometry with large-FoV omnidirectional cameras, even for cameras with negative-plane FoV. To achieve this, we propose an Omnidirectional Curve Segment Detection (OCSD) method combined with a camera model which is applicable to images with large distortions, such as panoramic annular images, fisheye images, and various panoramic images. The geodesic segment is sliced into multiple straight-line segments based on the radian and descriptors are extracted and recombined. Descriptor matching establishes the constraint relationship between 3D line segments in multiple frames. In our VIO system, line feature residual is also extended to support large-FoV cameras. Extensive evaluations on public datasets demonstrate the superior accuracy and robustness of LF-PGVIO compared to state-of-the-art methods. The source code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/flysoaryun/LF-PGVIO.

Tightly-Coupled LiDAR-Visual SLAM Based on Geometric Features for Mobile Agents

The mobile robot relies on SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) to provide autonomous navigation and task execution in complex and unknown environments. However, it is hard to develop a dedicated algorithm for mobile robots due to dynamic and challenging situations, such as poor lighting conditions and motion blur. To tackle this issue, we propose a tightly-coupled LiDAR-visual SLAM based on geometric features, which includes two sub-systems (LiDAR and monocular visual SLAM) and a fusion framework. The fusion framework associates the depth and semantics of the multi-modal geometric features to complement the visual line landmarks and to add direction optimization in Bundle Adjustment (BA). This further constrains visual odometry. On the other hand, the entire line segment detected by the visual subsystem overcomes the limitation of the LiDAR subsystem, which can only perform the local calculation for geometric features. It adjusts the direction of linear feature points and filters out outliers, leading to a higher accurate odometry system. Finally, we employ a module to detect the subsystem's operation, providing the LiDAR subsystem's output as a complementary trajectory to our system while visual subsystem tracking fails. The evaluation results on the public dataset M2DGR, gathered from ground robots across various indoor and outdoor scenarios, show that our system achieves more accurate and robust pose estimation compared to current state-of-the-art multi-modal methods.

HMOE: Hypernetwork-based Mixture of Experts for Domain Generalization

Due to domain shifts, machine learning systems typically struggle to generalize well to new domains that differ from those of training data, which is what domain generalization (DG) aims to address. Although a variety of DG methods have been proposed, most of them fall short in interpretability and require domain labels, which are not available in many real-world scenarios. This paper presents a novel DG method, called HMOE: Hypernetwork-based Mixture of Experts (MoE), which does not rely on domain labels and is more interpretable. MoE proves effective in identifying heterogeneous patterns in data. For the DG problem, heterogeneity arises exactly from domain shifts. HMOE employs hypernetworks taking vectors as input to generate the weights of experts, which promotes knowledge sharing among experts and enables the exploration of their similarities in a low-dimensional vector space. We benchmark HMOE against other DG methods under a fair evaluation framework -- DomainBed. Our extensive experiments show that HMOE can effectively separate mixed-domain data into distinct clusters that are surprisingly more consistent with human intuition than original domain labels. Using self-learned domain information, HMOE achieves state-of-the-art results on most datasets and significantly surpasses other DG methods in average accuracy across all datasets.

LF-VISLAM: A SLAM Framework for Large Field-of-View Cameras with Negative Imaging Plane on Mobile Agents

Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM) has become a crucial aspect in the fields of autonomous driving and robotics. One crucial component of visual SLAM is the Field-of-View (FoV) of the camera, as a larger FoV allows for a wider range of surrounding elements and features to be perceived. However, when the FoV of the camera reaches the negative half-plane, traditional methods for representing image feature points using [u,v,1]^T become ineffective. While the panoramic FoV is advantageous for loop closure, its benefits are not easily realized under large-attitude-angle differences where loop-closure frames cannot be easily matched by existing methods. As loop closure on wide-FoV panoramic data further comes with a large number of outliers, traditional outlier rejection methods are not directly applicable. To address these issues, we propose LF-VISLAM, a Visual Inertial SLAM framework for cameras with extremely Large FoV with loop closure. A three-dimensional vector with unit length is introduced to effectively represent feature points even on the negative half-plane. The attitude information of the SLAM system is leveraged to guide the feature point detection of the loop closure. Additionally, a new outlier rejection method based on the unit length representation is integrated into the loop closure module. We collect the PALVIO dataset using a Panoramic Annular Lens (PAL) system with an entire FoV of 360°x(40°~120°) and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) to address the lack of panoramic SLAM datasets. Experiments on the established PALVIO and public datasets show that the proposed LF-VISLAM outperforms state-of-the-art SLAM methods. Our code will be open-sourced at https://github.com/flysoaryun/LF-VISLAM.

FocusFlow: Boosting Key-Points Optical Flow Estimation for Autonomous Driving

Key-point-based scene understanding is fundamental for autonomous driving applications. At the same time, optical flow plays an important role in many vision tasks. However, due to the implicit bias of equal attention on all points, classic data-driven optical flow estimation methods yield less satisfactory performance on key points, limiting their implementations in key-point-critical safety-relevant scenarios. To address these issues, we introduce a points-based modeling method that requires the model to learn key-point-related priors explicitly. Based on the modeling method, we present FocusFlow, a framework consisting of 1) a mix loss function combined with a classic photometric loss function and our proposed Conditional Point Control Loss (CPCL) function for diverse point-wise supervision; 2) a conditioned controlling model which substitutes the conventional feature encoder by our proposed Condition Control Encoder (CCE). CCE incorporates a Frame Feature Encoder (FFE) that extracts features from frames, a Condition Feature Encoder (CFE) that learns to control the feature extraction behavior of FFE from input masks containing information of key points, and fusion modules that transfer the controlling information between FFE and CFE. Our FocusFlow framework shows outstanding performance with up to +44.5% precision improvement on various key points such as ORB, SIFT, and even learning-based SiLK, along with exceptional scalability for most existing data-driven optical flow methods like PWC-Net, RAFT, and FlowFormer. Notably, FocusFlow yields competitive or superior performances rivaling the original models on the whole frame. The source code will be available at https://github.com/ZhonghuaYi/FocusFlow_official.

NMA: Neural Multi-slot Auctions with Externalities for Online Advertising

Online advertising driven by auctions brings billions of dollars in revenue for social networking services and e-commerce platforms. GSP auctions, which are simple and easy to understand for advertisers, have almost become the benchmark for ad auction mechanisms in the industry. However, most GSP-based industrial practices assume that the user click only relies on the ad itself, which overlook the effect of external items, referred to as externalities. Recently, DNA has attempted to upgrade GSP with deep neural networks and models local externalities to some extent. However, it only considers set-level contexts from auctions and ignores the order and displayed position of ads, which is still suboptimal. Although VCG-based multi-slot auctions (e.g., VCG, WVCG) make it theoretically possible to model global externalities (e.g., the order and positions of ads and so on), they lack an efficient balance of both revenue and social welfare. In this paper, we propose novel auction mechanisms named Neural Multi-slot Auctions (NMA) to tackle the above-mentioned challenges. Specifically, we model the global externalities effectively with a context-aware list-wise prediction module to achieve better performance. We design a list-wise deep rank module to guarantee incentive compatibility in end-to-end learning. Furthermore, we propose an auxiliary loss for social welfare to effectively reduce the decline of social welfare while maximizing revenue. Experiment results on both offline large-scale datasets and online A/B tests demonstrate that NMA obtains higher revenue with balanced social welfare than other existing auction mechanisms (i.e., GSP, DNA, WVCG) in industrial practice, and we have successfully deployed NMA on Meituan food delivery platform.

Close-up View synthesis by Interpolating Optical Flow

The virtual viewpoint is perceived as a new technique in virtual navigation, as yet not supported due to the lack of depth information and obscure camera parameters. In this paper, a method for achieving close-up virtual view is proposed and it only uses optical flow to build parallax effects to realize pseudo 3D projection without using depth sensor. We develop a bidirectional optical flow method to obtain any virtual viewpoint by proportional interpolation of optical flow. Moreover, with the ingenious application of the optical-flow-value, we achieve clear and visual-fidelity magnified results through lens stretching in any corner, which overcomes the visual distortion and image blur through viewpoint magnification and transition in Google Street View system.

MDDL: A Framework for Reinforcement Learning-based Position Allocation in Multi-Channel Feed

Nowadays, the mainstream approach in position allocation system is to utilize a reinforcement learning model to allocate appropriate locations for items in various channels and then mix them into the feed. There are two types of data employed to train reinforcement learning (RL) model for position allocation, named strategy data and random data. Strategy data is collected from the current online model, it suffers from an imbalanced distribution of state-action pairs, resulting in severe overestimation problems during training. On the other hand, random data offers a more uniform distribution of state-action pairs, but is challenging to obtain in industrial scenarios as it could negatively impact platform revenue and user experience due to random exploration. As the two types of data have different distributions, designing an effective strategy to leverage both types of data to enhance the efficacy of the RL model training has become a highly challenging problem. In this study, we propose a framework named Multi-Distribution Data Learning (MDDL) to address the challenge of effectively utilizing both strategy and random data for training RL models on mixed multi-distribution data. Specifically, MDDL incorporates a novel imitation learning signal to mitigate overestimation problems in strategy data and maximizes the RL signal for random data to facilitate effective learning. In our experiments, we evaluated the proposed MDDL framework in a real-world position allocation system and demonstrated its superior performance compared to the previous baseline. MDDL has been fully deployed on the Meituan food delivery platform and currently serves over 300 million users.

Binary Latent Diffusion

In this paper, we show that a binary latent space can be explored for compact yet expressive image representations. We model the bi-directional mappings between an image and the corresponding latent binary representation by training an auto-encoder with a Bernoulli encoding distribution. On the one hand, the binary latent space provides a compact discrete image representation of which the distribution can be modeled more efficiently than pixels or continuous latent representations. On the other hand, we now represent each image patch as a binary vector instead of an index of a learned cookbook as in discrete image representations with vector quantization. In this way, we obtain binary latent representations that allow for better image quality and high-resolution image representations without any multi-stage hierarchy in the latent space. In this binary latent space, images can now be generated effectively using a binary latent diffusion model tailored specifically for modeling the prior over the binary image representations. We present both conditional and unconditional image generation experiments with multiple datasets, and show that the proposed method performs comparably to state-of-the-art methods while dramatically improving the sampling efficiency to as few as 16 steps without using any test-time acceleration. The proposed framework can also be seamlessly scaled to $1024 \times 1024$ high-resolution image generation without resorting to latent hierarchy or multi-stage refinements.

Ring-Rotor: A Novel Retractable Ring-shaped Quadrotor with Aerial Grasping and Transportation Capability

This letter presents a novel and retractable ring-shaped quadrotor called Ring-Rotor that can adjust the vehicle's length and width simultaneously. Unlike other morphing quadrotors with high platform complexity and poor controllability, Ring-Rotor uses only one servo motor for morphing but reduces the largest dimension of the vehicle by approximately 31.4\%. It can guarantee passibility while flying through small spaces in its compact form and energy saving in its standard form. Meanwhile, the vehicle breaks the cross configuration of general quadrotors with four arms connected to the central body and innovates a ring-shaped mechanical structure with spare central space. Based on this, an ingenious whole-body aerial grasping and transportation scheme is designed to carry various shapes of objects without the external manipulator mechanism. Moreover, we exploit a nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) strategy that uses a time-variant physical parameter model to adapt to the quadrotor morphology. Above mentioned applications are performed in real-world experiments to demonstrate the system's high versatility.

PIER: Permutation-Level Interest-Based End-to-End Re-ranking Framework in E-commerce

Re-ranking draws increased attention on both academics and industries, which rearranges the ranking list by modeling the mutual influence among items to better meet users' demands. Many existing re-ranking methods directly take the initial ranking list as input, and generate the optimal permutation through a well-designed context-wise model, which brings the evaluation-before-reranking problem. Meanwhile, evaluating all candidate permutations brings unacceptable computational costs in practice. Thus, to better balance efficiency and effectiveness, online systems usually use a two-stage architecture which uses some heuristic methods such as beam-search to generate a suitable amount of candidate permutations firstly, which are then fed into the evaluation model to get the optimal permutation. However, existing methods in both stages can be improved through the following aspects. As for generation stage, heuristic methods only use point-wise prediction scores and lack an effective judgment. As for evaluation stage, most existing context-wise evaluation models only consider the item context and lack more fine-grained feature context modeling. This paper presents a novel end-to-end re-ranking framework named PIER to tackle the above challenges which still follows the two-stage architecture and contains two mainly modules named FPSM and OCPM. We apply SimHash in FPSM to select top-K candidates from the full permutation based on user's permutation-level interest in an efficient way. Then we design a novel omnidirectional attention mechanism in OCPM to capture the context information in the permutation. Finally, we jointly train these two modules end-to-end by introducing a comparative learning loss. Offline experiment results demonstrate that PIER outperforms baseline models on both public and industrial datasets, and we have successfully deployed PIER on Meituan food delivery platform.
