T-RoPE: Time-Aware Rotary Position Embedding for Sequential Recommendation

Large-scale recommenders increasingly adopt the sequential generative recipe behind large language models, bringing the Transformer into recommendation along with design choices made for text, including Rotary Position Embedding (RoPE). In language models, RoPE encodes token indices for relative position reasoning, but in recommendation, an interaction index records only event order, saying nothing about elapsed time, behavioral cycles across scales, or calendar phase. We revisit this choice and propose T-RoPE, a time-aware RoPE for sequential generative recommendation that replaces index-only rotation with timestamp-based angles, learnable temporal coefficients, multiscale frequency banks, shifted query alignment, and non-stationary key rotation. We prove that standard RoPE, even on timestamps, remains time-translation invariant and cannot distinguish seasonal contexts, and that T-RoPE breaks this invariance while preserving the RoPE interface. Across five public benchmarks, T-RoPE achieves the best result on every metric on every dataset, improving over the strongest baseline by 78--130\% in HR@10 on the sparse PixelRec data and 8--12\% across metrics on Amazon Books. On an industrial-scale e-commerce dataset with more than 6B interactions, it improves every metric over the HSTU + Time RAB backbone by 13--82\%, with ablations attributing the largest gains to multiscale frequencies ($+56\%$ NDCG@50) and non-stationary keys ($+4\%$). An online A/B test in the Shop app yields positive lifts in conversion rate ($+0.33\%$) and order count ($+0.63\%$). We also provide forward and backward algorithms whose added cost is linear in sequence length and head dimension, keeping time-aware RoPE practical for large generative recommenders.

SimGym: A Framework for A/B Test Simulation in E-Commerce with Traffic-Grounded VLM Agents

A/B testing remains the gold standard for evaluating modifications to e-commerce storefronts, yet it diverts traffic, requires weeks to reach statistical significance, and risks degrading user experience. We present SimGym, a framework for simulating A/B tests on e-commerce storefronts using vision-language model (VLM) agents operating in a live browser. The framework comprises three key components: (a) a traffic-grounded persona generation pipeline that derives per-shop buyer archetypes and intents from production clickstream data; (b) a live-browser agent architecture that combines multimodal perception over visual and browser-structured observations with episodic memory and guardrails to conduct coherent shopping sessions across control and treatment storefronts; and (c) an evaluation protocol that compares simulated outcome shifts with observed shifts in real buyer behavior. We validate SimGym on A/B tests of visually driven UI theme changes from a major e-commerce platform across diverse storefronts and product categories. Empirical results show that SimGym agents achieve strong agreement with observed outcome shifts, attaining 77% directional alignment with add-to-cart shifts observed across interface variants in real-buyer traffic. It reduces experimental cycles from weeks to under an hour, enabling rapid experimentation without exposing real buyers to candidate variants.

Multi-function Robotized Surgical Dissector for Endoscopic Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy: Preclinical Study and Evaluation

Patients suffering chronic severe pulmonary thromboembolism need Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy (PTE) to remove the thromb and intima located inside pulmonary artery (PA). During the surgery, a surgeon holds tweezers and a dissector to delicately strip the blockage, but available tools for this surgery are rigid and straight, lacking distal dexterity to access into thin branches of PA. Therefore, this work presents a novel robotized dissector based on concentric push/pull robot (CPPR) structure, enabling entering deep thin branch of tortuous PA. Compared with conventional rigid dissectors, our design characterizes slenderness and dual-segment-bending dexterity. Owing to the hollow and thin-walled structure of the CPPR-based dissector as it has a slender body of 3.5mm in diameter, the central lumen accommodates two channels for irrigation and tip tool, and space for endoscopic camera's signal wire. To provide accurate surgical manipulation, optimization-based kinematics model was established, realizing a 2mm accuracy in positioning the tip tool (60mm length) under open-loop control strategy. As such, with the endoscopic camera, traditional PTE is possible to be upgraded as endoscopic PTE. Basic physic performance of the robotized dissector including stiffness, motion accuracy and maneuverability was evaluated through experiments. Surgery simulation on ex vivo porcine lung also demonstrates its dexterity and notable advantages in PTE.

SimGym: Traffic-Grounded Browser Agents for Offline A/B Testing in E-Commerce

A/B testing remains the gold standard for evaluating e-commerce UI changes, yet it diverts traffic, takes weeks to reach significance, and risks harming user experience. We introduce SimGym, a scalable system for rapid offline A/B testing using traffic-grounded synthetic buyers powered by Large Language Model agents operating in a live browser. SimGym extracts per-shop buyer profiles and intents from production interaction data, identifies distinct behavioral archetypes, and simulates cohort-weighted sessions across control and treatment storefronts. We validate SimGym against real human outcomes from real UI changes on a major e-commerce platform under confounder control. Even without alignment post training, SimGym agents achieve state of the art alignment with observed outcome shifts and reduces experiment cycles from weeks to under an hour , enabling rapid experimentation without exposure to real buyers.
