On the quark propagator singularity

Using the method of Fukuda and Kugo \cite{FUKKUG} the continuation of Euclidean solution is performed to the timelike axis of fourmomenta. It is shown that assumed presence of the real simple pole in quark propagator is not in agreement with the solution. The simple pole disappears because of the discontinuity in the resulting quark mass function.

Unification and Dark Matter in a Minimal Scalar Extension of the Standard Model

The six Higgs doublet model is a minimal extension of the Standard Model that addresses dark matter and gauge coupling unification. Another Higgs doublet in a 5 representation of a discrete symmetry group, such as S_6, is added to the SM. The lightest components of the 5-Higgs are neutral, stable and serve as dark matter so long as the discrete symmetry is not broken. Direct and indirect detection signals, as well as collider signatures are discussed. The five-fold multiplicity of the dark matter decreases its mass and typically helps make the dark matter more visible in upcoming experiments.

Effective Field Theory, Renormalizability and Extra Dimensions

We discuss in this paper two ways of defining the concept of "effective field theory": effective field theory defined by low energy effectiveness and effective field theory defined by 4D effectiveness out of higher dimensions. We argue that these two views are actually equivalent, that effective field theories at low energy can in fact be regarded as field theories of higher dimensions confined on a 4D spcaetime. We examine this idea through comparing two different regularization schemes: Momentum Cutoff and Dimensional Regularization, and through analyzing how fields can be localized on branes.

Spectrum of Yang-Mills Theory in D=3+1

We give a comparison of the spectrum of Yang-Mills theory in $D=3+1$, recently derived with a strong coupling expansion, with lattice data. We verify excellent agreement also for 2$^{++}$ glueball. A deep analogy with the $D=2+1$ case is obtained and a full quantum theory of this approach is also given.

Bs and Bc mesons in lattice QCD with exact chiral symmetry

We determine the masses and decay constants of the pseudoscalar mesons Bs and Bc, and also the masses of the vector mesons Bs^* and Bc^*, in quenched lattice QCD with exact chiral symmetry. For 100 gauge configurations generated with single-plaquette action at beta = 7.2 on the 32^3 x 60 lattice, we compute point-to-point quark propagators for 33 quark masses in the range [0.01, 0.85], and measure the time-correlation functions of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The inverse lattice spacing and the charm quark bare mass are determined using the mass and decay constant of eta_c(2980). The bare masses of s and b quarks are chosen such that the masses of the corresponding vector mesons are in good agreement with phi(1020), and Upsilon(9460) respectively. Our results are: m_{Bs} = 5385(27)(17) MeV, f_{Bs} = 253(8)(7) MeV, m_{Bc} = 6278(6)(4) MeV, f_{Bc} = 489(4)(3) MeV, m_{Bs^*} = 5424(28)(19) MeV, and m_{Bc^*} = 6315(6)(5) MeV.

Averages of b-hadron properties at the end of 2006

This article reports the world averages for measurements on b-hadron properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using the available results at the end of 2006. In the averaging, the input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and all known correlations are taken into account. The averages include lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, branching fractions of B decays to final states with open charm, charmonium and no charm, and measurements related to CP asymmetries.

Metastable Vacua in Perturbed Seiberg-Witten Theories

We show that, for a generic choice of a point on the Coulomb branch of any N=2 supersymmetric gauge theory, it is possible to find a superpotential perturbation which generates a metastable vacuum at the point. For theories with SU(N) gauge group, such a superpotential can be expressed as a sum of single-trace terms for N=2 and 3. If the metastable point is chosen at the origin of the moduli space, we can show that the superpotential can be a single-trace operator for any N. In both cases, the superpotential is a polynomial of degree 3N of the vector multiplet scalar field.

Conformal dynamics in gauge theories via non-perturbative renormalization group

The dynamics at the IR fixed point realized in the $SU(N_c)$ gauge theories with massless Dirac fermions is studied by means of the non-perturbative renormalization group. The analysis includes the IR fixed points with non-trivial Yukawa couplings. The renormalization properties of the scalar field are also discussed and it is shown that hierarchical mass scale may be allowed without intense fine-tuning due to a large anomalous dimension.

Higgs Amplitudes From Twistor Inspired Methods

We illustrate the use of new on-shell methods, 4-dimensional unitarity cuts combined with on-shell recursions relations, by computing the A_4^{(1)}(phi,1^-,2^-,3^+,4^+) amplitude in the large top mass limit where the Higgs boson couples to gluons through an effective interaction.

Non-Abelian Discrete Flavor Symmetries

This is an incomplete survey of some non-Abelian discrete symmetries which have been used recently in attempts to understand the flavor structure of leptons and quarks. To support such symmetries, new scalar particles are required. In some models, they are very massive, in which case there may not be much of a trace of their existence at the TeV scale. In other models, they are themselves at the TeV scale, in which case there is a reasonable chance for them to be revealed at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN.

Production of light particles by very strong and slowly varying magnetic fields

The possibility that around some astrophysical objects there are non-static magnetic fields of enormous intensity suggests that in these situations real particles may be produced. The slowness of the variation is compensated by the huge intensity. The main issue is the production of e+,e- pairs annihilating into photons and the direct production of photons, as one of the concurrent process in the GRB (gamma ray bursts). Then some simple effects due to the presence of the intense gravity are studied and finally a look is given to the production of other kinds of particles.

Re-visiting Direct $J/ψ$ Production at the Fermilab Tevatron

We re-analyze the direct $\jp$ production processes at the Fermilab Tevatron in view of the recent observation at the B-factories, where both $\jp$ inclusive and exclusive production rates are found to be about an order of magnitude larger than the leading order estimates of non-relativistic QCD. The charm quark fragmentation to $\jp$, which is the dominant color-singlet process at high $p_T$, is normalized by the B-factory measurements. The process receives further enhancement due to the charm sea contribution which has so far been ignored in most analyses. After summing up all sub-process contributions, we find that the color-singlet mechanism alone can account for 20% to 90% of the observed direct $\jp$ high $p_T$ production. The polarization rate of the directly produced $\jp$ is sensitive to the fraction of the color-octet contribution, which is employed to fill the gap between the color-singlet prediction and experimental data. With a bigger $K$-factor for the charm quark fragmentation probability, we envisage a smaller matrix element for the color-octet $^3S_1^{(8)}$ state, and this can be examined at the LHC in near future.

Feynman integrals and multiple polylogarithms

In this talk I review the connections between Feynman integrals and multiple polylogarithms. After an introductory section on loop integrals I discuss the Mellin-Barnes transformation and shuffle algebras. In a subsequent section multiple polylogarithms are introduced. Finally, I discuss how certain Feynman integrals evaluate to multiple polylogarithms.

From semiconductors to quantum gravity: to centenary of Matvei Bronstein

Investigation of the many-body condensed-matter systems allows us to connect the microscopic physics at the atomic energy scale and the macroscopic physics emerging in the low-energy corner. It gives some hints on the mechanisms of the formation of the physical laws which our Universe obeys. The paper is devoted to the centenary of Matvei Petrovich Bronstein.

A new approach to resummation: Parametric Perturbation Theory

We present a {\sl non--perturbative} method, called {\sl Parametric Perturbation Theory} (PPT), which is alternative to the ordinary perturbation theory. The method relies on a principle of simplicity for the observable solutions, which are constrained to be linear in a certain (unphysical) parameter. The perturbative expansion is carried out in this parameter and not in the physical coupling (as in ordinary perturbation theory). We show that the method is capable to resum the divergent perturbative series, to {\sl extract} the leading asymptotic (strong coupling) behavior and {\sl predict} with high accuracy the coefficients of the perturbative series.

Going beyond perturbation theory: Parametric Perturbation Theory

We devise a {\sl non--perturbative} method, called {\sl Parametric Perturbation Theory} (PPT), which is alternative to the ordinary perturbation theory. The method relies on a principle of simplicity for the observable solutions, which are constrained to be linear in a certain (unphysical) parameter. The perturbative expansion is carried out in this parameter and not in the physical coupling (as in ordinary perturbation theory). We provide a number of nontrivial examples, where our method is capable to resum the divergent perturbative series, {\sl extract} the leading asymptotic (strong coupling) behavior and {\sl predict} with high accuracy the coefficients of the perturbative series. In the case of a zero dimensional field theory we prove that PPT can be used to provide the imaginary part of the solution, when the problem is analytically continued to negative couplings. In the case of a $ϕ^4$ lattice model 1+1 and of elastic theory we have shown that the observables resummed with PPT display a branch point at a finite value of the coupling, signaling the transition from a stable to a metastable state. We have also applied the method to the prediction of the virial coefficients for a hard sphere gas in two and three dimensions; in this example we have also found that the solution resummed with PPT has a singularity at finite density. Predictions for the unknown virial coefficients are made.

Diffraction : Recent Results and Implications for LHC

With the knowledge of diffractive parton densities extracted from HERA data, we discuss the observation of exclusive events using the dijet mass fraction as measured by the CDF collaboration at the Tevatron. In particular the impact of the gluon density uncertainty is analysed. Some prospects are given for diffractive physics at the LHC.

Is the Pentaquark the Only Justification for Research on KN Physics ?

The talk is intended to motivate the use of DA$Φ$NE--2 running at the $ϕ$ peak as an intense, clean source of low--momentum charged and neutral kaons. It covers a few open problems still unsolved after more than twenty--five years and the physics (some of it still novel) that could be learned only in this way. And, of course, the answer to the above question is {\sl NO}.
