On U_c-admitting spaces and U_c-completions of T_0 spaces

Abstract

In this paper, we introduce a new class of spaces, termed U_c-admitting spaces, and investigate their relationships with U_s-admitting spaces and well-filtered spaces. Adopting the perspective of H-sobriety, we show that every U_c-admitting space is H-sober, so that U_c-admitting spaces arise as a special case of H-sober spaces. Consequently, the category U_c-Sob of U_c-admitting spaces and continuous maps is complete and forms a reflective subcategory of Top_0. In addition, we prove that a T_0 space X is U_c-admitting if and only if its Smyth power space is U_c-admitting. Finally, we present the standard U_c-completion of an arbitrary T_0 space.

Prime Density, Kolmogorov Quotients and Homeomorphisms between Macías Spaces of Integral Domains

For an integral domain $R$ that is not a field, the Macías space $M(R)$ is the set $R^0=R\setminus\{0\}$ endowed with the topology generated by the subsets $σ_k^0=\{x\in R^0:\langle x\rangle+\langle k\rangle=R\}$ for $k\in R^0$. We show that the unit group is open in $M(R)$ precisely when $R$ is not semiprimitive, and characterize semiprimitive Dedekind domains and unique factorization domains (UFDs) by means of the density of their irreducible and prime elements, respectively. We describe the Kolmogorov quotient of $M(R)$ in terms of the maximal ideals of $R$, and reduce the homeomorphism problem to these quotients and the cardinalities of the fibers of the quotient maps. Consequently, two local domains have homeomorphic Macías spaces if and only if they have the same cardinality. We characterize the pairs of Dedekind domains with homeomorphic Macías spaces in terms of the cardinalities of their unit groups and the relations among the ideal classes of their maximal ideals; in particular, two Dedekind domains with torsion class groups, such as principal ideal domains (PIDs), have homeomorphic Macías spaces if and only if their unit groups have the same cardinality and so do their sets of maximal ideals. This characterization addresses, for countably infinite semiprimitive PIDs, the homeomorphism problem raised by Macías in 2024. Under an additional hypothesis, UFDs admit an analogous characterization in terms of comaximality with prime elements. Finally, for a class of domains of characteristic zero, we characterize additive homeomorphisms between Macías spaces in terms of isomorphisms of the underlying rings, partially answering a problem raised by Macías and Ortiz in 2024.

When are metrizable linear subspaces of topological vector spaces finite-dimensional?

We study conditions that imply finite-dimensionality of metrizable or Frechet-Urysohn linear subspaces of topological vector spaces (TVS). We consider the classes $\mathscr{D}_M$ and $\mathscr{D}_{FU}$ of TVS: a space $L$ belongs to $\mathscr{D}_M$ (respectively, $\mathscr{D}_{FU}$) if every metrizable (respectively, Frechet-Urysohn) linear subspace of $L$ is finite-dimensional. Although the classes of metrizable spaces and of Frechet-Urysohn spaces differ substantially, the classes $\mathscr{D}_M$ and $\mathscr{D}_{FU}$ are much closer to each other: in the Hrusak-Ramos-Garcia model, in which Malykhin's problem is solved, $\mathscr{D}_M=\mathscr{D}_{FU}$, whereas under MA+not CH, as shown in the paper, $\mathscr{D}_M\neq\mathscr{D}_{FU}$. For a locally convex space (LCS) $L$ we denote by $L_w$ the space $L$ with its weak topology and by $L'_{w^*}$ the dual space with the weak$^*$ topology. This paper investigates which LCS $L$ have the property that $L_w$ and $L'_{w^*}$ belong to $\mathscr{D}_M$ or $\mathscr{D}_{FU}$. Although the classes are close, different methods are used to study them: topological-algebraic ones for $\mathscr{D}_M$ (a criterion is obtained) and methods of measure theory and probability for $\mathscr{D}_{FU}$ (a sufficient condition is obtained). We prove that if an LCS $L$ admits a continuous norm, then $L_w\in\mathscr{D}_{FU}$; in particular, if $L$ admits a continuous norm and $L_w$ is Frechet-Urysohn, then $L$ is finite-dimensional. If the topology of an LCS $L$ is coarser than the topology induced by some complete norm on $L$ (for example, if $L$ is Banach), then $L'_{w^*}\in\mathscr{D}_{FU}$; completeness of the norm is essential here. The methods also apply to spaces of real-analytic functions and to the space of polynomials with the topology of pointwise convergence: these also belong to $\mathscr{D}_{FU}$.

Topological preservation under aggregation of quantale-valued metric spaces

Aggregation functions provide a general mechanism for combining multiple inputs into a single output and constitute a fundamental tool in information fusion. Beyond the classical numerical setting, aggregation can also be considered at the level of mathematical structures, where the main question is to determine which properties of the original structures are preserved by the aggregation process. In this paper, we study the preservation of topology within a unified framework based on continuous quantales and quantale-enriched categories. We introduce strongly preserving functions, for which the natural topology induced by a $\mathscr V$-metric space coincides with that induced after aggregation. We decompose this property into its upper and lower versions and show that upper strong preservation is equivalent to Scott continuity at the unit of the domain quantale, whereas lower strong preservation is characterized in terms of the fibre of the unit and the Scott upper semicontinuity of the inverse multifunction. Combining these results, we obtain a complete characterization of strongly preserving functions, together with analogous results for separated, symmetric, and separated and symmetric $\mathscr V$-metric spaces. Finally, we specialize the general theory to functions from $\mathsf P_+^{\,I}$ to $\mathsf P_+$, obtaining characterizations of strongly extended quasi-pseudometric and pseudometric aggregation functions on Cartesian products and on common underlying sets, together with corresponding results for extended quasi-metric and metric aggregation functions on Cartesian products.
