Pesin's entropy formula on attractors with continuous invariant splittings

Abstract

Under quantitative asymptotic hyperbolicity assumptions, we prove the existence of hyperbolic ergodic invariant probability measures satisfying Pesin's entropy formula for $C^1$ diffeomorphisms whose attractors admit extendable continuous invariant splittings. No dominated splitting is required on the attractor. For $C^{1+α}$ diffeomorphisms, the resulting measures are SRB measures. Our results apply to mostly expanding partially hyperbolic systems and to systems with strictly separated Lyapunov exponents under suitable statistical assumptions. We also construct examples with hyperbolic SRB measures of full support on attractors admitting no nontrivial dominated splitting, demonstrating the applicability of our criteria beyond results that require domination.

Simple Tilings of Riemannian Homogeneous Spaces

We define simple tilings in the general context of a $G$-tiling on a Riemannian homogeneous space $M$ to be tilings by Riemannian simplices. As evidence that this definition is natural, we prove that a large class of tilings of $M$ are MLD to simple ones. We further show that there is an isomorphism between uCech cohomology and pattern-equivariant cohomology of simple tilings of homogeneous Riemannian Spaces. This demonstrates the utility of our definition by generalizing an established result on the topology of tiling spaces of Euclidean space.

Expansivity of algebraic semigroup actions

For a semigroup $S$ and a right $\mathbb{Z}[S]$-submodule $J\leq \mathbb{Z}[S]^n$, we study expansivity of the algebraic action of $S$ induced on the Pontryagin dual of $\mathbb{Z}[S]^n/J$. We completely determine the class of semigroups for which expansivity of this action is characterized by the triviality of $J^\perp$, in terms of the existence of a finite subset $K\subseteq S$ such that $S=KS$. This condition is satisfied in particular by every monoid, and more generally by every semigroup with a left unital convolution Banach algebra, in which case we are able to extend the characterization of expansivity in terms of an invertibility condition when $J$ is finitely generated. We also exhibit examples of non-unital semigroups satisfying the hypotheses of our results.

Exact dimensionality of stationary measures for random diffeomorphisms with all Lyapunov exponents equal and negative

We prove exact dimensionality of ergodic stationary measures for random compositions of $C^1$ diffeomorphisms of a closed manifold $M$ that contract at a single Lyapunov scale. More precisely, let $ν$ be a Borel probability measure on $\mathrm{Diff}^1(M)$ such that $\log\sup_{x}\|{D_xf}\|$ and $\log\sup_{x}\|{D_xf^{-1}}\|$ are $ν$-integrable, and let $μ$ be an ergodic $ν$-stationary probability measure. If the top and bottom Lyapunov exponents of the derivative cocycle coincide and equal $λ<0$, then $μ$ is exact dimensional and $\mathrm{dim}(μ)=h_μ^{\mathrm{F}}(ν)/(-λ)$, where $h_μ^{\mathrm{F}}(ν)$ is the Furstenberg entropy.
