Amplitude analysis of the charmed baryon decay Lambda_c+ to p K_S^0 pi0

Abstract

Using $e^+e^-$ annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, the first amplitude analysis of the charmed baryon decay $Λ_c^+ \to p K_S^0 π^0$ is performed. The processes $Λ_c^+ \to p \bar{K}^{*}(892)^0$, $Λ_c^+ \to Δ(1600)^+ K_S^0$, and $Λ_c^+ \to N(1710)^+ K_S^0$ are identified with statistical significances of $12.8σ$, $14.5σ$, and $6.2σ$, respectively. The mass and width of $Δ(1600)^+$ are measured to be $(1520.4 \pm 8.8 \pm 37.7)~\text{MeV}$ and $(199.4 \pm 26.4 \pm 39.9)~\text{MeV}$, respectively. The mass and width of $N(1710)^+$ are measured to be $(1719.7 \pm 9.4 \pm 9.1)~\text{MeV}$ and $(72.0 \pm 18.0 \pm 15.0)~\text{MeV}$, respectively. The branching fractions of these processes are determined to be $\mathcal{B}[Λ_c^+ \rightarrow Δ(1600)^+ (\rightarrow p π^0) K_S^0] = (8.10 \pm 0.80 \pm 5.57) \times 10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}[Λ_c^+ \rightarrow N(1710)^+ (\rightarrow p π^0) K_S^0] = (1.58 \pm 0.48 \pm 0.77) \times 10^{-3}$, and $\mathcal{B}[Λ_c^+ \rightarrow p \bar{K}^{*}(892)^0 (\rightarrow K_S^0 π^0)] = (2.63 \pm 0.47 \pm 0.29) \times 10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

First measurement of the masses of the $Υ_1(1D)$ and $Υ_3(1D)$ states and the energy dependence of the cross sections for $e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)η$ and $e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)π^+π^-$

We study the processes $e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)η$ and $e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)π^+π^-$ at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$=(10.73 -- 11.02) GeV using a $142.5\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ data sample, including 122~fb$^{-1}$ near the $Υ$(10860) peak ($\sqrt{s}$ = 10.866 GeV), collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. From the peak sample, the products of Born cross section times branching fraction are obtained for $σ_{\rm Born}(e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)η)$ or $σ_{\rm Born}(e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)π^+π^-)$ and ${\cal B}(Υ_J(1D)\toχ_{b1}γ)$ or ${\cal B}(Υ_J(1D)\toχ_{b2}γ)$ for each $Υ_J(1D)$ state. The corresponding branching fractions for $Υ(10860)$ decays are also obtained. The significances of the $Υ_1(1D)$, $Υ_2(1D)$, and $Υ_3(1D)$ signals are 4.8$σ$, ${>}10σ$, and 3.0$σ$, respectively, including systematic uncertainties. The mass for $Υ_2(1D)$ is measured to be $(10167.0\pm 1.0\pm 0.2)$ MeV/$c^2$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The mass splittings $Δm_{12}=m(Υ_2(1D))-m(Υ_1(1D))$ and $Δm_{23}=m(Υ_3(1D))-m(Υ_2(1D))$ are $(11.8\pm1.5\pm0.4)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $(7.6\pm2.4\pm0.6)$ MeV/$c^2$, respectively.~We determine the energy dependence of the cross sections for $e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)η$ and $e^+e^-\toΥ_J(1D)π^+π^-$ for the $Υ_1(1D)$, $Υ_2(1D)$, and $Υ_3(1D)$ states, combined.

Dark sector searches at BESIII

Large samples of charmonia, charm mesons, hyperons and light mesons collected by BESIII offer sensitive tests of dark sector interactions with charm and light quarks. This contribution reviews recent searches for sub-GeV dark matter in $η\toπ^0+\mathrm{invisible}$ and $J/ψ\toϕ+\mathrm{invisible}$, massless dark photons in $D^0\toωγ'$ and $D^0\toγγ'$, invisible $K^0_S$ decays, dark baryons in $Ξ^-\toπ^-χ$, and light vector bosons in $χ_{cJ}\to J/ψV$, $V\to e^+e^-$. Particular attention is given to the $η$ search, which constrains scalar-mediated dark matter and tests thermal relic benchmarks.

Dark-field Search for Quantum Vacuum Signals in the Low-Energy Regime

We report on the experimental details of a dark-field search for light-by-light scattering signals performed at the High Energy Density (HED) instrument of the European XFEL (EuXFEL) in a pump-probe type experiment colliding the EuXFEL beam with the 300-TW-class near-infrared Relativistic Laser at XFEL (ReLaX) at a center-of-mass photon energy of $ω_\star = 116\,\mathrm{eV}$. Especially in combination with polarization filtering, the dark-field concept allows the signal-to-background ratio to be significantly enhanced and both polarization channels to be recorded. This work elaborates on the experimental setup and the diagnostics used, from the per-shot spatiotemporal-overlap diagnostics, via the polarizing beam splitter, to the characterization of the residual background. Moreover, it provides details on the start-to-end simulations of the setup used for analysis. Accumulating 2751 pump-probe collisions, no excess above background is observed, and an upper limit on the light-by-light scattering cross section of $7\times10^{4}$ times the QED prediction at a 95% confidence level is derived. This is the most stringent bound on low-energy light-by-light scattering achieved to date, representing an improvement by ten orders of magnitude upon previous experimental limits.
