Trajectory Privacy Protection Mechanism based on Social Attributes

The current trajectory privacy protection technology only considers the temporal and spatial attributes of trajectory data, but ignores the social attributes. However, there is an intrinsic relationship between social attributes and human activity trajectories, which brings new challenges to trajectory privacy protection, making existing trajectory privacy protection technologies unable to resist trajectory privacy attacks based on social attributes. To this end, this paper first studies the social privacy attack in the trajectory data, builds a social privacy attack model based on the fusion of "space-time" features, and reveals the internal impact of the spatial and temporal features in the trajectory data on social privacy leaks. -Anonymous algorithm and trajectory release privacy protection provide theoretical support. On this basis, integrate social attributes into trajectory privacy protection technology, design trajectory k-anonymity algorithm based on "space-time-social" three-dimensional mobile model, and construct trajectory data based on "space-time-social-semantic" multi-dimensional correlation Publish privacy-preserving models.

A fast and Accurate Sketch Method for Estimating User Similarities over Trajectory Data

In a complex urban environment, due to the unavoidable interruption of GNSS positioning signals and the accumulation of errors during vehicle driving, the collected vehicle trajectory data is likely to be inaccurate and incomplete. A weighted trajectory reconstruction algorithm based on a bidirectional RNN deep network is proposed. GNSS/OBD trajectory acquisition equipment is used to collect vehicle trajectory information, and multi-source data fusion is used to realize bidirectional weighted trajectory reconstruction. At the same time, the neural arithmetic logic unit (NALU) is introduced into the trajectory reconstruction model to strengthen the extrapolation ability of the deep network and ensure the accuracy of trajectory prediction, which can improve the robustness of the algorithm in trajectory reconstruction when dealing with complex urban road sections. The actual urban road section was selected for testing experiments, and a comparative analysis was carried out with existing methods. Through root mean square error (RMSE, root-mean-square error) and using Google Earth to visualize the reconstructed trajectory, the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed algorithm.

Deep-Learning-Based Computer Vision Approach For The Segmentation Of Ball Deliveries And Tracking In Cricket

There has been a significant increase in the adoption of technology in cricket recently. This trend has created the problem of duplicate work being done in similar computer vision-based research works. Our research tries to solve one of these problems by segmenting ball deliveries in a cricket broadcast using deep learning models, MobileNet and YOLO, thus enabling researchers to use our work as a dataset for their research. The output from our research can be used by cricket coaches and players to analyze ball deliveries which are played during the match. This paper presents an approach to segment and extract video shots in which only the ball is being delivered. The video shots are a series of continuous frames that make up the whole scene of the video. Object detection models are applied to reach a high level of accuracy in terms of correctly extracting video shots. The proof of concept for building large datasets of video shots for ball deliveries is proposed which paves the way for further processing on those shots for the extraction of semantics. Ball tracking in these video shots is also done using a separate RetinaNet model as a sample of the usefulness of the proposed dataset. The position on the cricket pitch where the ball lands is also extracted by tracking the ball along the y-axis. The video shot is then classified as a full-pitched, good-length or short-pitched delivery.

Gallai's Conjecture for Complete and "Nearly Complete" Graphs

The famous Gallai's Conjecture states that any connected graph with n vertices has a path decomposition containing at most (n+1)/2 paths. In this note, we explore graphs generated from removing edges from complete graphs. We first provide an explicit construction for a path decomposition of complete graphs that satisfies Gallai's Conjecture. We then use that construction to prove that we can remove stars and certain tadpoles such that the resulting graph still satisfies Gallai's Conjecture. We also introduce a potential general approach through analyzing non-isomorphic path decompositions of complete graphs.

SLAM-TKA: Real-time Intra-operative Measurement of Tibial Resection Plane in Conventional Total Knee Arthroplasty

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a common orthopaedic surgery to replace a damaged knee joint with artificial implants. The inaccuracy of achieving the planned implant position can result in the risk of implant component aseptic loosening, wear out, and even a joint revision, and those failures most of the time occur on the tibial side in the conventional jig-based TKA (CON-TKA). This study aims to precisely evaluate the accuracy of the proximal tibial resection plane intra-operatively in real-time such that the evaluation processing changes very little on the CON-TKA operative procedure. Two X-ray radiographs captured during the proximal tibial resection phase together with a pre-operative patient-specific tibia 3D mesh model segmented from computed tomography (CT) scans and a trocar pin 3D mesh model are used in the proposed simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) system to estimate the proximal tibial resection plane. Validations using both simulation and in-vivo datasets are performed to demonstrate the robustness and the potential clinical value of the proposed algorithm.

Demonstration of fully integrated parity-time-symmetric electronics

Harnessing parity-time (PT) symmetry with balanced gain and loss profiles has created a variety of opportunities in electronics from wireless energy transfer to telemetry sensing and topological defect engineering. However, existing implementations often employ ad-hoc approaches at low operating frequencies and are unable to accommodate large-scale integration. Here, we report a fully integrated realization of PT-symmetry in a standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology. Our work demonstrates salient PT-symmetry features such as phase transition as well as the ability to manipulate broadband microwave generation and propagation beyond the limitations encountered by exiting schemes. The system shows 2.1 times bandwidth and 30 percentage noise reduction compared to conventional microwave generation in oscillatory mode and displays large non-reciprocal microwave transport from 2.75 to 3.10 gigahertz in non-oscillatory mode due to enhanced nonlinearities. This approach could enrich integrated circuit (IC) design methodology beyond well-established performance limits and enable the use of scalable IC technology to study topological effects in high-dimensional non-Hermitian systems.

Nonlinear Nonreciprocal Photocurrents under Phonon Dressing

Nonlinear optical (NLO) effects have attracted great interest recently. However, by far the computational studies on NLO use the independent particle approximation and ignore many-body effects. Here we develop a generic Green's function framework to calculate the NLO response functions, which can incorporate various many-body interactions. We focus on the electron-phonon coupling and reveal that phonon dressing can make significant impacts on nonlinear photocurrent, such as the bulk photovoltaic (BPV) and bulk spin photovoltaic (BSPV) currents. BPV/BSPV should be zero for centrosymmetric crystals, but when phonons are driven out-of-equilibrium, by for example, a temperature gradient $\nabla T$, the optical selections rules are altered and phonon-pumped BPV/BSPV currents can be non-zero in nominally centrosymmetric crystal. Moreover, we elucidate that such NLO responses under non-equilibrium phonon dressing can be nonreciprocal, as the direction of the current does not necessarily get reversed when the direction of the temperature gradient is reversed.

Generalized Wilson Loop Method for Nonlinear Light-Matter Interaction

Nonlinear light-matter interaction, as the core of ultrafast optics, bulk photovoltaics, nonlinear optical sensing and imaging, and efficient generation of entangled photons, has been traditionally studied by first-principles theoretical methods with the sum-over-states approach. However, this indirect method often suffers from the divergence at band degeneracy and optical zeros as well as convergence issues and high computation costs when summing over the states. Here, using shift vector and shift current conductivity tensor as an example, we present a gauge-invariant generalized approach for efficient and direct calculations of nonlinear optical responses by representing interband Berry curvature, quantum metric, and shift vector in a generalized Wilson loop. This generalized Wilson loop method avoids the above cumbersome challenges and allows for easy implementation and efficient calculations. More importantly, the Wilson loop representation provides a succinct geometric interpretation of nonlinear optical processes and responses based on quantum geometric tensors and quantum geometric potentials and can be readily applied to studying other excited-state responses.

The Price of Competition: Effect Size Heterogeneity Matters in High Dimensions

In high-dimensional sparse regression, would increasing the signal-to-noise ratio while fixing the sparsity level always lead to better model selection? For high-dimensional sparse regression problems, surprisingly, in this paper we answer this question in the negative in the regime of linear sparsity for the Lasso method, relying on a new concept we term effect size heterogeneity. Roughly speaking, a regression coefficient vector has high effect size heterogeneity if its nonzero entries have significantly different magnitudes. From the viewpoint of this new measure, we prove that the false and true positive rates achieve the optimal trade-off uniformly along the Lasso path when this measure is maximal in a certain sense, and the worst trade-off is achieved when it is minimal in the sense that all nonzero effect sizes are roughly equal. Moreover, we demonstrate that the first false selection occurs much earlier when effect size heterogeneity is minimal than when it is maximal. The underlying cause of these two phenomena is, metaphorically speaking, the ``competition'' among variables with effect sizes of the same magnitude in entering the model. Taken together, our findings suggest that effect size heterogeneity shall serve as an important complementary measure to the sparsity of regression coefficients in the analysis of high-dimensional regression problems. Our proofs use techniques from approximate message passing theory as well as a novel technique for estimating the rank of the first false variable.

Modelling and Experimental Validation for Battery Lifetime Estimation in NB-IoT and LTE-M

Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the main features in 5G. Low-power wide-area networking (LPWAN) has attracted enormous research interests to enable large scale deployment of IoT, with the design objectives of low cost, wide coverage area, as well as low power consumption. In particular, long battery lifetime is essential since many of the IoT devices will be deployed in hard-to-access locations. Prediction of the battery lifetime depends on the accurate modelling of energy consumption. This paper presents a comprehensive power consumption model for battery lifetime estimation, which is based on User Equipment(UE) states and procedures, for two cellular IoT technologies: Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) and Long Term Evolution for Machines (LTE-M). A measurement testbed has been setup and the proposed model has been tested and validated via extensive measurements under various traffic patterns and network scenarios, achieving the modelling inaccuracy within5%. The measurement results show that the battery lifetime of an IoT device can reach up to 10 years as required by 3GPP, with proper configuration of the traffic profile, the coverage scenario, as well as the network configuration parameters.

Deep Learning Assisted End-to-End Synthesis of mm-Wave Passive Networks with 3D EM Structures: A Study on A Transformer-Based Matching Network

This paper presents a deep learning assisted synthesis approach for direct end-to-end generation of RF/mm-wave passive matching network with 3D EM structures. Different from prior approaches that synthesize EM structures from target circuit component values and target topologies, our proposed approach achieves the direct synthesis of the passive network given the network topology from desired performance values as input. We showcase the proposed synthesis Neural Network (NN) model on an on-chip 1:1 transformer-based impedance matching network. By leveraging parameter sharing, the synthesis NN model successfully extracts relevant features from the input impedance and load capacitors, and predict the transformer 3D EM geometry in a 45nm SOI process that will match the standard 50$Ω$ load to the target input impedance while absorbing the two loading capacitors. As a proof-of-concept, several example transformer geometries were synthesized, and verified in Ansys HFSS to provide the desired input impedance.

Imitating Deep Learning Dynamics via Locally Elastic Stochastic Differential Equations

Understanding the training dynamics of deep learning models is perhaps a necessary step toward demystifying the effectiveness of these models. In particular, how do data from different classes gradually become separable in their feature spaces when training neural networks using stochastic gradient descent? In this study, we model the evolution of features during deep learning training using a set of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) that each corresponds to a training sample. As a crucial ingredient in our modeling strategy, each SDE contains a drift term that reflects the impact of backpropagation at an input on the features of all samples. Our main finding uncovers a sharp phase transition phenomenon regarding the {intra-class impact: if the SDEs are locally elastic in the sense that the impact is more significant on samples from the same class as the input, the features of the training data become linearly separable, meaning vanishing training loss; otherwise, the features are not separable, regardless of how long the training time is. Moreover, in the presence of local elasticity, an analysis of our SDEs shows that the emergence of a simple geometric structure called the neural collapse of the features. Taken together, our results shed light on the decisive role of local elasticity in the training dynamics of neural networks. We corroborate our theoretical analysis with experiments on a synthesized dataset of geometric shapes and CIFAR-10.

Subtrees and BC-subtrees of maximum degree no more than k in trees

The subtrees and BC-subtrees (subtrees where any two leaves are at even distance apart) have been extensively studied in recent years. Such structures, under special constraints on degrees, have applications in many fields. Through an approach based on generating functions, we present recursive algorithms for enumerating various subtrees and BC-subtrees of maximum degree $\leq k$ in trees. The algorithms are illustrated through detailed examples. We also briefly discuss, in trees, the densities of subtrees (resp.~BC-subtrees) of maximum degree $\leq k(\geq 2)$ among all subtrees (resp.~BC-subtrees).

Abnormal Surface Nonlinear Optical Responses in Topological Materials

Nonlinear optical (NLO) responses of topological materials are under active research in recent years. Yet by far, most studies focused on the bulk properties, whereas the surface effects and the difference between surface and bulk responses have not been systematically studied. Here we develop a generic Green's function framework to investigate the surface NLO properties of topological materials. The Green's function framework can naturally incorporate many-body effects and can be easily extended to high-order NLO responses. Using Td-WTe2 as an example, we reveal that the surface can behave disparately from the bulk under light illumination. Remarkably, the shift and circular currents on the surface can flow in opposite directions to those in the bulk interior. Moreover, the light-induced spin current on the surface can be orders of magnitude stronger than its bulk counterpart. We also study the responses under inhomogeneous field and higher-order NLO effect, which are all distinct on the surface. These anomalous surface NLO responses suggest that light can be a valuable tool for probing the surface states of topological materials. On the other hand, the surface effects shall be prudently considered when investigating the optical properties of topological materials, especially if the material is of nanoscale and/or the light penetration depth is small.

Angle Estimation for Terahertz Ultra-Massive MIMO-Based Space-to-Air Communications

This paper investigates terahertz ultra-massive (UM)-MIMO-based angle estimation for space-to-air communications, which can solve the performance degradation problem caused by the dual delay-beam squint effects of terahertz UM-MIMO channels. Specifically, we first design a grouping true-time delay unit module that can significantly mitigate the impact of delay-beam squint effects to establish the space-to-air THz link. Based on the subarray selection scheme, the UM hybrid array can be equivalently considered as a low-dimensional fully-digital array, and then the fine estimates of azimuth/elevation angles at both UAVs and satellite can be separately acquired using the proposed prior-aided iterative angle estimation algorithm. The simulation results that close to Cramér-Rao lower bounds verify the effectiveness of our solution.

Pure Spin Photocurrent in Non-centrosymmetric Crystals: Bulk Spin Photovoltaic Effect

Spin current generators are critical components for spintronics-based information processing. In this work, we theoretically and computationally investigate the bulk spin photovoltaic (BSPV) effect for creating DC spin current under light illumination. The only requirement for BPSV is inversion symmetry breaking, thus it applies to a broad range of materials and can be readily integrated with existing semiconductor technologies. The BSPV effect is a cousin of the bulk photovoltaic (BPV) effect, whereby a DC charge current is generated under light. Thanks to the different selection rules on spin and charge currents, a pure spin current can be realized if the system possesses mirror symmetry or inversion-mirror symmetry. The mechanism of BPSV and the role of the electronic relaxation time $τ$ are also elucidated. We apply our theory to several distinct material systems, including transition metal dichalcogenides, anti-ferromagnetic $\rm MnBi_2Te_4$, and the surface of topological crystalline insulator cubic $\rm SnTe$.

On the maximum mean subtree order of trees

A subtree of a tree is any induced subgraph that is again a tree (i.e., connected). The mean subtree order of a tree is the average number of vertices of its subtrees. This invariant was first analyzed in the 1980s by Jamison. An intriguing open question raised by Jamison asks whether the maximum of the mean subtree order, given the order of the tree, is always attained by some caterpillar. While we do not completely resolve this conjecture, we find some evidence in its favor by proving different features of trees that attain the maximum. For example, we show that the diameter of a tree of order $n$ with maximum mean subtree order must be very close to $n$. Moreover, we show that the maximum mean subtree order is equal to $n - 2\log_2 n + O(1)$. For the local mean subtree order, which is the average order of all subtrees containing a fixed vertex, we can be even more precise: we show that its maximum is always attained by a broom and that it is equal to $n - \log_2 n + O(1)$.

Reversible Adversarial Attack based on Reversible Image Transformation

In order to prevent illegal or unauthorized access of image data such as human faces and ensure legitimate users can use authorization-protected data, reversible adversarial attack technique is rise. Reversible adversarial examples (RAE) get both attack capability and reversibility at the same time. However, the existing technique can not meet application requirements because of serious distortion and failure of image recovery when adversarial perturbations get strong. In this paper, we take advantage of Reversible Image Transformation technique to generate RAE and achieve reversible adversarial attack. Experimental results show that proposed RAE generation scheme can ensure imperceptible image distortion and the original image can be reconstructed error-free. What's more, both the attack ability and the image quality are not limited by the perturbation amplitude.
