Exploitation and Exploration Analysis of Elitist Evolutionary Algorithms: A Case Study

Known as two cornerstones of problem solving by search, exploitation and exploration are extensively discussed for implementation and application of evolutionary algorithms (EAs). However, only a few researches focus on evaluation and theoretical estimation of exploitation and exploration. Considering that exploitation and exploration are two issues regarding global search and local search, this paper proposes to evaluate them via the success probability and the one-step improvement rate computed in different domains of integration. Then, case studies are performed by analyzing performances of (1+1) random univariate search and (1+1) evolutionary programming on the sphere function and the cheating problem. By rigorous theoretical analysis, we demonstrate that both exploitation and exploration of the investigated elitist EAs degenerate exponentially with the problem dimension $n$. Meanwhile, it is also shown that maximization of exploitation and exploration can be achieved by setting an appropriate value for the standard deviation $σ$ of Gaussian mutation, which is positively related to the distance from the present solution to the center of the promising region.

Production of $P-$wave charmed and charmed-strange mesons in pion and kaon induced reactions

In the present work, we investigate the production of $P-$wave charmed or charmed-strange mesons in the pion or kaon induced reactions on a proton target. The total cross sections as well as the differential cross sections depending on the scattering angle are evaluated in an effective Lagrangian approach. Our estimations indicate that magnitude of the cross sections strongly depends on the model parameter but such dependence can be almost completely canceled for the cross section ratios. These model independent ratios can be taken as a good criterion of the validity of heavy quark limit in the charmed region, which is helpful to understand $P$-wave charmed and charmed-strange mesons.

Single-Photon Rydberg Excitation and Trap-Loss Spectroscopy of Cold Cesium Atoms in a Magneto-Optical Trap by Using of a 319-nm Ultra-Violet Laser System

We demonstrate the single-photon Rydberg excitation of cesium atoms in a magneto-optical trap (MOT). We excite atoms directly from ${{6S}_{1/2}}$ ground state to ${{nP}_{3/2}}(n=70-100)$ Rydberg state with a narrow-linewidth 319 nm ultra-violet laser. The detection of Rydberg states is performed by monitoring the reduction of fluorescence signal of the MOT as partial population on ${{6S}_{1/2}} (F = 4)$ ground state are transferred to Rydberg state. We clearly observe Autler-Townes doublet in the trap-loss spectra due to the cooling lights. Utilizing the large electric polarizibility of Rydberg atoms, we observe Stark splitting in the Autler-Townes doublet induced by background DC electric fields. We investigate the dependence of Stark shift on electric fields by theoretical analysis, and then infer the DC electric field from the measured Stark splitting. We find that there is a 44.8(4) mV/cm DC electric field in the vicinity of the cold ensemble. It indicates that high-lying Rydberg atoms can be used as sensors for DC electric fields.

Single-Pass Laser Frequency Conversion to 780.2 nm and 852.3 nm Based on PPMgO:LN Bulk Crystals and Diode-Laser-Seeded Fiber Amplifiers

We report the preparation of a 780.2 nm and 852.3 nm laser device based on single-pass periodically poled magnesium-oxide-doped lithium niobate (PPMgO:LN) bulk crystals and diode-laser-seeded fiber amplifiers. First, a single-frequency continuously tunable 780.2 nm laser of more than 600 mW from second-harmonic generation (SHG) by a 1560.5 nm laser can be achieved. Then, a 250 mW light at 852.3 nm is generated and achieves an overall conversion efficiency of 4.1% from sum-frequency generation (SFG) by mixing the 1560.5 nm and 1878.0 nm lasers. The continuously tunable range of 780.2 nm and 852.3 nm are at least 6.8 GHz and 9.2 GHz. By employing this laser system, we can conveniently perform laser cooling, trapping and manipulating both rubidium (Rb) and cesium (Cs) atoms simultaneously. This system has promising applications in a cold atoms Rb-Cs two-component interferemeter and in the formation of the RbCs dimer by the photoassociation of cold Rb and Cs atoms confined in a magneto-optical trap.

Molecular states from $Σ^{(*)}_c\bar{D}^{(*)}-Λ_c\bar{D}^{(*)}$ interaction

In this work, we systemically investigate the molecular states from the $Σ^{(*)}_c\bar{D}^{(*)}-Λ_c\bar{D}^{(*)}$ interaction with the help of the Lagrangians with heavy quark and chiral symmetries in a quasipotential Bethe-Salpeter equation (qBSE) approach. The molecular states are produced from isodoublet (I=1/2) $Σ_c\bar{D}$ interaction with spin parity $J^P=1/2^-$ and $Σ_c\bar{D}^*$ interaction with $1/2^-$ and $ 3/2^-$. Their masses and widths are consistent with the $P_c(4312)$, $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$ observed at LHCb. The states, $Σ_c^*\bar{D}^*(1/2^-)$, $Σ_c^*\bar{D}^*(3/2^-)$ and $Σ^*_c\bar{D}(3/2^-)$, are also produced with the same parameters. The isodoublet $Σ_c^*\bar{D}^*$ interaction with $5/2^-$, as well as the isoquartet (I=3/2) $Σ_c\bar{D}^*$ interactions with $1/2^-$ and $3/2^-$, $Σ_c^*\bar{D}^*$ interaction with $3/2^-$ and $5/2^-$, are also attractive while very large cutoff is required to produce a molecular state. We also investigate the origin of the widths of these molecular states in the same qBSE frame. The $Λ\bar{D}^*$ channel is dominant in the decays of the states, $Σ_c\bar{D}^*(1/2^-)$, $Σ_c\bar{D}^*(3/2^-)$, $Σ_c^*\bar{D}(3/2^-)$, and $Σ_c\bar{D}(1/2^-)$. The $Σ^*_c\bar{D}^*(1/2^-)$ state has large coupling to $Σ_c\bar{D}$ channel while the $Σ_c\bar{D}^*$, $Σ^*_c\bar{D}$ and $Λ_c\bar{D}^*$ channels provide similar contributions to the width of the $Σ^*_c\bar{D}^*(3/2^-)$ state. These results will be helpful to understand the current LHCb experimental results, and the three predicted states and the decay pattern of these hidden-charmed molecular pentaquarks can be checked in future experiments.

Conditionally Learn to Pay Attention for Sequential Visual Task

Sequential visual task usually requires to pay attention to its current interested object conditional on its previous observations. Different from popular soft attention mechanism, we propose a new attention framework by introducing a novel conditional global feature which represents the weak feature descriptor of the current focused object. Specifically, for a standard CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) pipeline, the convolutional layers with different receptive fields are used to produce the attention maps by measuring how the convolutional features align to the conditional global feature. The conditional global feature can be generated by different recurrent structure according to different visual tasks, such as a simple recurrent neural network for multiple objects recognition, or a moderate complex language model for image caption. Experiments show that our proposed conditional attention model achieves the best performance on the SVHN (Street View House Numbers) dataset with / without extra bounding box; and for image caption, our attention model generates better scores than the popular soft attention model.

Unlimited Budget Analysis of Randomised Search Heuristics

Performance analysis of all kinds of randomised search heuristics is a rapidly growing and developing field. Run time and solution quality are two popular measures of the performance of these algorithms. The focus of this paper is on the solution quality an optimisation heuristic achieves, not on the time it takes to reach this goal, setting it far apart from runtime analysis. We contribute to its further development by introducing a novel analytical framework, called unlimited budget analysis, to derive the expected fitness value after arbitrary computational steps. It has its roots in the very recently introduced approximation error analysis and bears some similarity to fixed budget analysis. We present the framework, apply it to simple mutation-based algorithms, covering both, local and global search. We provide analytical results for a number of pseudo-Boolean functions for unlimited budget analysis and compare them to results derived within the fixed budget framework for the same algorithms and functions. There are also results of experiments to compare bounds obtained in the two different frameworks with the actual observed performance. The study show that unlimited budget analysis may lead to the same or more general estimation beyond fixed budget.

Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of crystal electric field in heavy fermion compound CePt2In7

The three-dimensional electronic structure and Ce 4f electrons of the heavy fermion superconductor CePt2In7 is investigated. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy using variable photon energy establishes the existence of quasi-two and three dimensional Fermi surface topologies. Temperature-dependent 4d-4f on-resonance photoemission spectroscopies reveal that heavy quasiparticle bands begin to form at a temperature well above the characteristic (coherence) temperature T*. T* emergence may be closely related to crystal electric field splitting, particularly the low-lying heavy band formed by crystal electric field splitting.

$D$ wave charmonia

Inspired by the recent observations of the vector charmonium-like states at BES III Collaboration and $ψ(3842)$ at LHCb Collaboration, we comb the $D$ wave charmonium state in the present work. We first evaluate the possibility of $Y(4320)$ as $ψ(3^3D_1)$ by investigating its open charm decays in quark-pair creation model and we find the width of $Y(4320)$ can be reproduced in a reasonable parameter range. Moreover, we take $ψ(3770)$, $ψ(4160)$ and $Y(4320)$ as the scale of $1D$, $2D$ and $3D$ charmonia to estimate the open charm decays of other $D$ wave charmonia. The total and partial widths of $D$ wave charmonium states have been predicted, which could be tested by further measurements at LHCb and Belle II Collaborations.

Production of $ϕ(2170)$ and $η(2225)$ in a kaon induced reaction

In this work, we study the production of strange quarkoniums, the $ϕ(2170)$, also named $Y(2175)$, and the $η(2225)$, via a kaon induced reaction on a proton target in an effective Lagrangian approach. The total and differential cross sections of the reactions $K^{-}p\rightarrow ϕ(2170)Λ$ and $K^{-}p\rightarrow η(2225)Λ$ are calculated by the Reggeized $t $-channel Born term under an assumption that the $ϕ(2170)$ and $η(2225)$ are $Λ\barΛ$ molecular states. At the center of mass energies of about 4.2 GeV, the total cross section for the $ϕ(2170)$ production is predicted to be about 1 $μ$b. The numerical results indicate that it is feasible to produce the $ϕ(2170)$ via kaon beam scattering at the best energy window near 4.2 GeV. The total cross section for the $η(2225)$ production is smaller than that for the $ϕ(2170)$ production and it may reach an order of the magnitude of 0.1 $μ$b. The differential cross sections for both reactions at different center of mass energies are also presented. It is found that the Reggeized $t$ channel gives a considerable contribution at forward angles. As the energy increases, the contribution from the $t$-channel almost concentrates at extreme forward angles. From these theoretical predictions, the relevant experimental research is suggested, which could provide important information to clarify the internal structure and production mechanism of these two strange quarkoniums.

Multiobjective Optimization Differential Evolution Enhanced with Principle Component Analysis for Constrained Optimization

Multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) have been successfully applied to a number of constrained optimization problems. Many of them adopt mutation and crossover operators from differential evolution. However, these operators do not explicitly utilise features of fitness landscapes. To improve the performance of algorithms, this paper aims at designing a search operator adapting to fitness landscapes. Through an observation, we find that principle component analysis (PCA) can be used to characterise fitness landscapes. Based on this finding, a new search operator, called PCA-projection, is proposed. In order to verify the effectiveness of PCA-projection, we design two algorithms enhanced with PCA-projection for solving constrained optimization problems, called PMODE and HECO-PDE, respectively. Experiments have been conducted on the IEEE CEC 2017 competition benchmark suite in constrained optimisation. PMODE and HECO-PDE are compared with the algorithms from the IEEE CEC 2018 competition and another recent MOEA for constrained optimisation. Experimental results show that an algorithm enhanced with PCA-projection performs better than its corresponding opponent without this operator. Furthermore, HECO-PDE is ranked first on all dimensions according to the competition rules. This study reveals that decomposition-based MOEAs, such as HECO-PDE, are competitive with best single-objective and multiobjective evolutionary algorithms for constrained optimisation, but MOEAs based on non-dominance, such as PMODE, may not.

Pion-induced production of hidden-charm pentaquarks $P_{c}(4312),P_{c}(4440)$, and $P_{c}(4457)$

The production of the hidden-charm pentaquarks $P_{c}$ via pion-induced reaction on a proton target is investigated within an effective Lagrangian approach. Three experimentally observed states, $P_c(4312)$, $P_c(4440)$, and $P_c(4457)$, are considered in the calculation, and the Reggeized $t$-channel meson exchange is considered as main background for the reaction $π^{-}p\rightarrow J/ψn$. The numerical results show that the experimental data of the total cross section of the reaction $π^{-}p\rightarrow J/ψn$ at $W\simeq 5$ GeV can be well explained by contribution of the Reggeized $t$ channel with reasonable cutoff. If the branching ratios $Br[P_{c}\rightarrow J/ψN]\simeq 3\%$ and $Br[P_{c}\rightarrow πN]\simeq 0.05\%$ are taken, the average value of the cross section from the $P_{c}(4312)$ contribution is about 1.2 nb/100 MeV, which is consistent with existing rude data at near-threshold energies. The results indicate that the branching ratios of the $P_{c}$ states to the $J/ψN$ and $πN$ should be small. The shape of differential cross sections shows that the Reggeized $t$-channel provides a sharp increase at extreme forward angles, while the differential cross sections from the $P_{c}$ states contributions are relatively flat. High-precision experimental measurements on the reaction $π^{-}p\rightarrow J/ψn$ at near-threshold energies are suggested to confirm the LHCb hidden-charm pentaquarks as genuine states, and such experiments are also helpful to understand the origin of these resonance structures.

Possibility to study pentaquark states $P_{c}(4312), P_{c}(4440)$, and $P_{c}(4457)$ in $γp\rightarrow J/ψp$ reaction

Inspired by the observation of the pentaquark states $P_{c}(4312),P_{c}(4440)$ and $P_{c}(4457)$ at LHCb, photoproduction of these three $P_{c}$ states via the interaction $γp\rightarrow J/ψp$ is investigated in an effective Lagrangian approach. The $t$-channel Pomeron exchange diffractive process is considered as the main background for the $J/ψ$ photoproduction. The numerical results show that the theoretical cross section, which is calculated by assuming a branching ratio $Br[P_{c}\rightarrow J/ψp]\simeq 3\%$, is consistent with the existing experimental data of the $ γp\rightarrow J/ψp$ process. With such a branching ratio, if experimental precision reaches 0.1 nb within a bin of 100 MeV for photon energy, two peaks are expected to be obviously observed in the $J/ψ$ photoproduction. To observe the two-peak structure from $P_{c}(4440)$ and $ P_{c}(4457)$, higher precision, about 0.1nb/10 MeV, is required to distinguish two close pentaquarks. If the physical branching ratio is larger, the requirement of experimental precision will be reduced. The differential cross sections for reaction $γp\rightarrow J/ψp$ are also present. It is found that the $t$-channel Pomeron exchange provides a sharp increase at extreme forward angles and gives a sizable contribution at most energy points, while the contributions from the $s$-channel $P_{c}$ exchanges play important roles at threshold energies. The experimental measurement of the $γp\rightarrow J/ψp$ process in the near-threshold energy region around $E_{γ}\simeq 9.4-10.5$ GeV is suggested, and is accessible at CEBAF@JLab and COMPASS.

Study of $P_c(4457)$, $P_c(4440)$, and $P_c(4312)$ in a quasipotential Bethe-Salpeter equation approach

Very recently, the LHCb Collaboration reported their new results about the pentaquarks at charm energy region. Based on the new experimental results, we recalculate the molecular states composed of a $Σ_c^{(*)}$ baryon and a $\bar{D}^{(*)}$ meson in a quasipotential Bethe-Salpeter equation approach. The two-peak structure around 4450 MeV can be interpreted as two $Σ_c \bar{D}^*$ bound states with spin parities $1/2^-$ and $3/2^-$. The newly observed pentaquark $P_c(4312)$ can be assigned as a $Σ_c\bar{D}$ bound state with spin parity $1/2^-$. The experimental determination of spin parities will be very helpful to understand the internal structure of these pentaquarks.

Looking for the hidden-charm pentaquark resonances in $J/ψp$ scattering

In the framework of quark delocalization color screening model, the three new reported pentaquarks $P_{c}(4312)$, $P_{c}(4440)$, and $P_{c}(4457)$ can be identified as the hidden-charm molecular states $Σ_{c}D$ with $J^{P}=\frac{1}{2}^{-}$, $Σ_{c}D^{*}$ with $J^{P}=\frac{3}{2}^{-}$, and $Σ_{c}D^{*}$ with $J^{P}=\frac{1}{2}^{-}$, in the baryon-meson scattering process, respectively. Besides, the $Σ^{*}_{c}D^{*}$ of both $J^{P}=\frac{1}{2}^{-}$ and $J^{P}=\frac{3}{2}^{-}$ are also possible molecular pentaquarks. Moreover, the calculation is extended to the $P_{c}-$like molecular pentaquarks $P_{b}$. Several states with masses above $11$ GeV and narrow width are obtained. All these heavy pentaquarks are worth searching in the future experiments.

Attention-based Convolutional Neural Network for Weakly Labeled Human Activities Recognition with Wearable Sensors

Unlike images or videos data which can be easily labeled by human being, sensor data annotation is a time-consuming process. However, traditional methods of human activity recognition require a large amount of such strictly labeled data for training classifiers. In this paper, we present an attention-based convolutional neural network for human recognition from weakly labeled data. The proposed attention model can focus on labeled activity among a long sequence of sensor data, and while filter out a large amount of background noise signals. In experiment on the weakly labeled dataset, we show that our attention model outperforms classical deep learning methods in accuracy. Besides, we determine the specific locations of the labeled activity in a long sequence of weakly labeled data by converting the compatibility score which is generated from attention model to compatibility density. Our method greatly facilitates the process of sensor data annotation, and makes data collection more easy.

Productions of $f_{1}(1420)$ in pion and kaon induced reactions

The $f_{1}(1420)$ productions via pion and kaon induced reactions on a proton target are investigated in an effective Lagrangian approach. Two treatments of the $t$-channel Born term, the Feynman model and the Regge model, are introduced to calculate the total and differential cross sections of the $π^{-}p\rightarrow f_{1}(1420)n$ and $K^{-}p\rightarrow f_{1}(1420)Λ$ reactions. The numerical results indicate that the experimental data of the total cross section of the $π^{-}p\rightarrow f_{1}(1420)n$ reaction can be reproduced in both the Feynman and the Regge models. Based on the parameters determined in the pion induced reaction, the cross sections of the $K^{-}p\rightarrow f_{1}(1420)Λ$ reaction, about which there is little data found in the literature, are predicted in the same beam momentum range. It is found that the line shapes of the total cross section obtained in a kaon induced reaction with two treatments are quite different. The cross sections for both reactions are at an order of magnitude of $μ$b, or larger, at a beam momenta up to 10 GeV/c. The differential cross sections for both pion and kaon induced reactions are also present. It is found that in the Regge model, the $t$ channel provides a sharp increase at extreme forward angles. The results suggest that the experimental study of the $f_1(1420)$ in the kaon induced reaction on a proton target is as promising as in the pion induced reaction. Such an experimental measurement is also very helpful to clarify the production mechanism of the $f_1(1420)$.

Strong decays of the $Ξ_b(6227)$ as a $Σ_b\bar{K}$ molecule

We study the strong decays of the newly observed $Ξ_b(6227)$ assuming that it is a pure $Σ_b\bar{K}$ molecular state. Considering four possible spin-parity assingments $J^P=1/2^{\pm}$ and $3/2^{\pm}$, the partial decay widths of the $Σ_b\bar{K}$ molecular state into $Λ_b\bar{K}$, $Ξ_bπ$, and $Ξ_b^{'}π$ final states through hadronic loops are evaluated with the help of the effective Lagrangians. In comparison with the LHCb data, the spin-party $1/2^-$ assignment is preferred while those of $J^P=1/2^{+}$ and $J^P=3/2^{\pm}$ are disfavored. In addition, we show that the two allowed decay modes $Λ_b\bar{K}$ and $Ξ_bπ$ of the $Ξ_b(6227)$, being a $S$-wave $Σ_b\bar{K}$ molecular state, have almost equal branching ratios, consistent with the data.
