Odd singular vector formula for general linear Lie superalgebras

We establish a closed formula for a singular vector of weight $λ-β$ in the Verma module of highest weight $λ$ for Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$ when $λ$ is atypical with respect to an odd positive root $β$. It is further shown that this vector is unique up to a scalar multiple, and it descends to a singular vector, again unique up to a scalar multiple, in the corresponding Kac module when both $λ$ and $λ-β$ are dominant integral.

Deterministic generation and switching of dissipative Kerr soliton in a thermally controlled micro-resonator

Dissipative Kerr solitons (DKSs) in the high-Q micro-resonator corresponds to self-organized short pulse in time domain via double balance between dispersion and Kerr nonlinearity, as well as cavity loss and parametric gain. In this paper, we first experimentally demonstrate deterministic generation and switching of DKSs in a thermally controlled micro-ring resonator based on high-index doped silica glass platform. In our scheme, an auxiliary laser is introduced to timely balance the intra-cavity heat fluctuation. By decreasing the operating temperature through a thermo-electric cooler, soliton crystal is firstly generated, then increasing the temperature, DKSs switching and single soliton are robustly accessed, which is independent of the tuning speed. During the switching process, varieties of DKSs are identified by tens of featured discrete soliton-steps, which is favorable for study of on-chip soliton interactions and nonlinear applications.

A New Hybrid-parameter Recurrent Neural Networks for Online Handwritten Chinese Character Recognition

The recurrent neural network (RNN) is appropriate for dealing with temporal sequences. In this paper, we present a deep RNN with new features and apply it for online handwritten Chinese character recognition. Compared with the existing RNN models, three innovations are involved in the proposed system. First, a new hidden layer function for RNN is proposed for learning temporal information better. we call it Memory Pool Unit (MPU). The proposed MPU has a simple architecture. Second, a new RNN architecture with hybrid parameter is presented, in order to increasing the expression capacity of RNN. The proposed hybrid-parameter RNN has parameter changes when calculating the iteration at temporal dimension. Third, we make a adaptation that all the outputs of each layer are stacked as the output of network. Stacked hidden layer states combine all the hidden layer states for increasing the expression capacity. Experiments are carried out on the IAHCC-UCAS2016 dataset and the CASIA-OLHWDB1.1 dataset. The experimental results show that the hybrid-parameter RNN obtain a better recognition performance with higher efficiency (fewer parameters and faster speed). And the proposed Memory Pool Unit is proved to be a simple hidden layer function and obtains a competitive recognition results.

Canonical bases arising from quantum symmetric pairs

We develop a general theory of canonical bases for quantum symmetric pairs $(\mathbf{U}, \mathbf{U}^\imath)$ with parameters of arbitrary finite type. We construct new canonical bases for the simple integrable $\mathbf{U}$-modules and their tensor products regarded as $\mathbf{U}^\imath$-modules. We also construct a canonical basis for the modified form of the $\imath$quantum group $\mathbf{U}^\imath$. To that end, we establish several new structural results on quantum symmetric pairs, such as bilinear forms, braid group actions, integral forms, Levi subalgebras (of real rank one), and integrality of the intertwiners.

Character formulae in category $\mathcal O$ for exceptional Lie superalgebras $D(2|1;ζ)$

We establish character formulae for representations of the one-parameter family of simple Lie superalgebras $D(2|1;ζ)$. We provide a complete description of the Verma flag multiplicities of the tilting modules and the projective modules in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of integral weights, for any complex parameter $ζ$. The composition factors of all Verma modules in $\mathcal O$ are then obtained.

Categorification of quantum symmetric pairs I

We categorify a coideal subalgebra of the quantum group of $\mathfrak{sl}_{2r+1}$ by introducing a $2$-category à la Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier, and show that self-dual indecomposable $1$-morphisms categorify the canonical basis of this algebra. This allows us to define a categorical action of this coideal algebra on the categories of modules over cohomology rings of partial flag varieties and on the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of type B/C.

Spin nilHecke algebras of classical type

We formulate and study the spin nilHecke algebras ${}^\mathfrak{b}\!{\mathrm{NH}}_n^-$ and ${}^\mathfrak{d}\!{\mathrm{NH}}_n^-$ of type B/D, which differ from the usual nilHecke algebras by some odd signs. The type B spin nilHecke algebra is a nil version of the spin type B Hecke algebra introduced earlier by the second author and Khongsap, but not for the type D one. We construct faithful polynomial representations $\mathrm{Pol}_n^-$ of the nilHecke algebras via odd Demazure operators. We formulate the spin Schubert polynomials, and use them to show that the spin nilHecke algebras are matrix algebras with entries in a subalgebra of $\mathrm{Pol}_n^-$ consisting of spin symmetric polynomials. All these results have their counterparts for the usual nilHecke algebras over the rational field. Our work is a generalization of results of Lauda and Ellis-Khovanov-Lauda in usual/spin type A.

Egocentric Hand Detection Via Dynamic Region Growing

Egocentric videos, which mainly record the activities carried out by the users of the wearable cameras, have drawn much research attentions in recent years. Due to its lengthy content, a large number of ego-related applications have been developed to abstract the captured videos. As the users are accustomed to interacting with the target objects using their own hands while their hands usually appear within their visual fields during the interaction, an egocentric hand detection step is involved in tasks like gesture recognition, action recognition and social interaction understanding. In this work, we propose a dynamic region growing approach for hand region detection in egocentric videos, by jointly considering hand-related motion and egocentric cues. We first determine seed regions that most likely belong to the hand, by analyzing the motion patterns across successive frames. The hand regions can then be located by extending from the seed regions, according to the scores computed for the adjacent superpixels. These scores are derived from four egocentric cues: contrast, location, position consistency and appearance continuity. We discuss how to apply the proposed method in real-life scenarios, where multiple hands irregularly appear and disappear from the videos. Experimental results on public datasets show that the proposed method achieves superior performance compared with the state-of-the-art methods, especially in complicated scenarios.

Geometric Schur duality of classical type

This is a generalization of the classic work of Beilinson, Lusztig and MacPherson. In this paper (and an Appendix) we show that the quantum algebras obtained via a BLM-type stabilization procedure in the setting of partial flag varieties of type $B/C$ are two (modified) coideal subalgebras of the quantum general linear Lie algebra, $\dot{\mathbf U}^{\jmath}$ and $\dot{\mathbf U}^{\imath}$. We provide a geometric realization of the Schur-type duality of Bao-Wang between such a coideal algebra and Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type $B$. The monomial bases and canonical bases of the Schur algebras and the modified coideal algebra $\dot{\mathbf U}^{\jmath}$ are constructed. In an Appendix by three authors, a more subtle $2$-step stabilization procedure leading to $\dot{\mathbf U}^{\imath}$ is developed, and then monomial and canonical bases of $\dot{\mathbf U}^{\imath}$ are constructed. It is shown that $\dot{\mathbf U}^{\imath}$ is a subquotient of $\dot{\mathbf U}^{\jmath}$ with compatible canonical bases. Moreover, a compatibility between canonical bases for modified coideal algebras and Schur algebras is established.

Multiparameter quantum Schur duality of type B

We establish a Schur type duality between a coideal subalgebra of the quantum group of type A and the Hecke algebra of type B with 2 parameters. We identify the $\imath$-canonical basis on the tensor product of the natural representation with Lusztig's canonical basis of the type B Hecke algebra with unequal parameters associated to a weight function.

Positivity vs negativity of canonical bases

We provide examples for negativity of structure constants of the stably canonical basis of modified quantum $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ and an analogous basis of modified quantum coideal algebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_n$. In contrast, we construct the canonical basis of the modified quantum coideal algebra of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, establish the positivity of its structure constants, the positivity with respect to a geometric bilinear form as well as the positivity of its action on the tensor powers of the natural representation. The matrix coefficients of the transfer map on these Schur algebras with respect to the canonical bases are shown to be positive. Formulas for canonical basis of the iSchur algebra of rank one are obtained.

Character formulae for queer Lie superalgebras and canonical bases of types $A/C$

For the BGG category of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of half-integer weights, a Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture à la Brundan is formulated in terms of categorical canonical basis of the $n$th tensor power of the natural representation of the quantum group of type $C$. For the BGG category of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of congruent non-integral weights, a Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture is formulated in terms of canonical basis of a mixed tensor of the natural representation and its dual of the quantum group of type $A$. We also establish a character formula for the finite-dimensional irreducible $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of half-integer weights in terms of type $C$ canonical basis of the corresponding $q$-wedge space.

Modular affine vertex algebras and baby Wakimoto modules

We develop some basic properties such as $p$-centers of affine vertex algebras and free field vertex algebras in prime characteristic. We show that the Wakimoto-Feigin-Frenkel homomorphism preserves the $p$-centers by providing explicit formulas. This allows us to formulate the notion of baby Wakimoto modules, which in particular provides an interpretation in the context of modular vertex algebras for Mathieu's irreducible character formula of modular affine Lie algebras at the critical level.
