Test of quantum nonlocality via vector meson decays to $K_SK_S$

In the system of a pair of quantum-entangled neutral kaons from meson decays, when one kaon collapses into the $K_S$ state, the other will collapse instantaneously into the $K_L$ state due to entanglement and nonlocality. However, if the alternative hypothesis is correct and there's a time window during which one kaon is unaware that the other has decayed, some quantum mechanically prohibited $K_SK_S$ decays may occur. We calculate the branching ratios of $K_SK_S$ in vector meson decays under the locality hypothesis and compare them with experimental results. We show that the branching ratio of $J/ψ\rightarrow K_SK_S$ under locality assumption is already excluded by the BESIII experimental upper limit. Additional experimental results are proposed to perform this test in the future.

Neural Parameterization for Dynamic Human Head Editing

Implicit radiance functions emerged as a powerful scene representation for reconstructing and rendering photo-realistic views of a 3D scene. These representations, however, suffer from poor editability. On the other hand, explicit representations such as polygonal meshes allow easy editing but are not as suitable for reconstructing accurate details in dynamic human heads, such as fine facial features, hair, teeth, and eyes. In this work, we present Neural Parameterization (NeP), a hybrid representation that provides the advantages of both implicit and explicit methods. NeP is capable of photo-realistic rendering while allowing fine-grained editing of the scene geometry and appearance. We first disentangle the geometry and appearance by parameterizing the 3D geometry into 2D texture space. We enable geometric editability by introducing an explicit linear deformation blending layer. The deformation is controlled by a set of sparse key points, which can be explicitly and intuitively displaced to edit the geometry. For appearance, we develop a hybrid 2D texture consisting of an explicit texture map for easy editing and implicit view and time-dependent residuals to model temporal and view variations. We compare our method to several reconstruction and editing baselines. The results show that the NeP achieves almost the same level of rendering accuracy while maintaining high editability.

Gray Images of Cyclic Codes over $\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$ and $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}

In the paper, we firstly study the algebraic structures of $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$-additive cyclic codes and give the generator polynomials and the minimal spanning set of these codes. Secondly, a necessary and sufficient condition for a class of $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive codes whose Gray images are linear (not necessarily cyclic) over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ is given. Moreover, as for some special families of cyclic codes over $\mathbb{Z}_{9}$ and $\mathbb{Z}_3 \mathbb{Z}_{9}$, the linearity of the Gray images is determined.

Listening to Users' Voice: Automatic Summarization of Helpful App Reviews

App reviews are crowdsourcing knowledge of user experience with the apps, providing valuable information for app release planning, such as major bugs to fix and important features to add. There exist prior explorations on app review mining for release planning, however, most of the studies strongly rely on pre-defined classes or manually-annotated reviews. Also, the new review characteristic, i.e., the number of users who rated the review as helpful, which can help capture important reviews, has not been considered previously. In the paper, we propose a novel framework, named SOLAR, aiming at accurately summarizing helpful user reviews to developers. The framework mainly contains three modules: The review helpfulness prediction module, topic-sentiment modeling module, and multi-factor ranking module. The review helpfulness prediction module assesses the helpfulness of reviews, i.e., whether the review is useful for developers. The topic-sentiment modeling module groups the topics of the helpful reviews and also predicts the associated sentiment, and the multi-factor ranking module aims at prioritizing semantically representative reviews for each topic as the review summary. Experiments on five popular apps indicate that SOLAR is effective for review summarization and promising for facilitating app release planning.

Towards Optimal Use of Surrogate Markers to Improve Power

Motivated by increasing pressure for decision makers to shorten the time required to evaluate the efficacy of a treatment such that treatments deemed safe and effective can be made publicly available, there has been substantial recent interest in using an earlier or easier to measure surrogate marker, $S$, in place of the primary outcome, $Y$. To validate the utility of a surrogate marker in these settings, a commonly advocated measure is the proportion of treatment effect on the primary outcome that is explained by the treatment effect on the surrogate marker (PTE). Model based and model free estimators for PTE have also been developed. While this measure is very intuitive, it does not directly address the important questions of how $S$ can be used to make inference of the unavailable $Y$ in the next phase clinical trials. In this paper, to optimally use the information of surrogate S, we provide a framework for deriving an optimal transformation of $S$, $g_{opt}(S)$, such that the treatment effect on $g_{opt}(S)$ maximally approximates the treatment effect on $Y$ in a certain sense. Based on the optimally transformed surrogate, $g_{opt}(S)$, we propose a new measure to quantify surrogacy, the relative power (RP), and demonstrate how RP can be used to make decisions with $S$ instead of $Y$ for next phase trials. We propose nonparametric estimation procedures, derive asymptotic properties, and compare the RP measure with the PTE measure. Finite sample performance of our estimators is assessed via a simulation study. We illustrate our proposed procedures using an application to the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) clinical trial to evaluate the utility of hemoglobin A1c and fasting plasma glucose as surrogate markers for diabetes.

Generic criterion for explosive synchronization in heterogeneous phase oscillator populations

Ordered and disordered behavior in large ensembles of coupled oscillators map to different functional states in a wide range of applications, e.g., active and resting states in the brain and stable and unstable power grid configurations. For this reason, explosive synchronization transitions, which facilitate fast, abrupt changes between these functional states, has recently seen significant interest from researchers. While previous work has identified properties of complex systems that support explosive synchronization, these investigations have been conducted largely on an ad-hoc basis. Here we provide an exact criterion for explosive synchronization in coupled phase oscillator ensembles by investigating the necessary relationship between dynamical and structural disorder. This result provides a critical step towards untangling the intertwined properties of complex systems responsible for abrupt phase transitions and bistability in biological and engineered systems.

$\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive cyclic codes: kernel and rank

A code $C = Φ(\mathcal{C})$ is called $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-linear if it's the Gray image of the $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive code $\mathcal{C}$. In this paper, the rank and the dimension of the kernel of $\mathcal{C}$ are studied. Both of the codes $\langle Φ(\mathcal{C}) \rangle$ and $\ker(Φ(\mathcal{C}))$ are proven $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive cyclic codes, and their generator polynomials are determined. Finally, accurate values of rank and the dimension of the kernel of some classes of $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive cyclic codes are considered.

IDE-3D: Interactive Disentangled Editing for High-Resolution 3D-aware Portrait Synthesis

Existing 3D-aware facial generation methods face a dilemma in quality versus editability: they either generate editable results in low resolution or high-quality ones with no editing flexibility. In this work, we propose a new approach that brings the best of both worlds together. Our system consists of three major components: (1) a 3D-semantics-aware generative model that produces view-consistent, disentangled face images and semantic masks; (2) a hybrid GAN inversion approach that initialize the latent codes from the semantic and texture encoder, and further optimized them for faithful reconstruction; and (3) a canonical editor that enables efficient manipulation of semantic masks in canonical view and product high-quality editing results. Our approach is competent for many applications, e.g. free-view face drawing, editing, and style control. Both quantitative and qualitative results show that our method reaches the state-of-the-art in terms of photorealism, faithfulness, and efficiency.

Hallucinated Neural Radiance Fields in the Wild

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) has recently gained popularity for its impressive novel view synthesis ability. This paper studies the problem of hallucinated NeRF: i.e., recovering a realistic NeRF at a different time of day from a group of tourism images. Existing solutions adopt NeRF with a controllable appearance embedding to render novel views under various conditions, but they cannot render view-consistent images with an unseen appearance. To solve this problem, we present an end-to-end framework for constructing a hallucinated NeRF, dubbed as Ha-NeRF. Specifically, we propose an appearance hallucination module to handle time-varying appearances and transfer them to novel views. Considering the complex occlusions of tourism images, we introduce an anti-occlusion module to decompose the static subjects for visibility accurately. Experimental results on synthetic data and real tourism photo collections demonstrate that our method can hallucinate the desired appearances and render occlusion-free images from different views. The project and supplementary materials are available at https://rover-xingyu.github.io/Ha-NeRF/.

Generating Tips from Song Reviews: A New Dataset and Framework

Reviews of songs play an important role in online music service platforms. Prior research shows that users can make quicker and more informed decisions when presented with meaningful song reviews. However, reviews of music songs are generally long in length and most of them are non-informative for users. It is difficult for users to efficiently grasp meaningful messages for making decisions. To solve this problem, one practical strategy is to provide tips, i.e., short, concise, empathetic, and self-contained descriptions about songs. Tips are produced from song reviews and should express non-trivial insights about the songs. To the best of our knowledge, no prior studies have explored the tip generation task in music domain. In this paper, we create a dataset named MTips for the task and propose a framework named GENTMS for automatically generating tips from song reviews. The dataset involves 8,003 Chinese tips/non-tips from 128 songs which are distributed in five different song genres. Experimental results show that GENTMS achieves top-10 precision at 85.56%, outperforming the baseline models by at least 3.34%. Besides, to simulate the practical usage of our proposed framework, we also experiment with previously-unseen songs, during which GENTMS also achieves the best performance with top-10 precision at 78.89% on average. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework in tip generation of the music domain.

Privacy-Preserving Distributed Machine Learning Made Faster

With the development of machine learning, it is difficult for a single server to process all the data. So machine learning tasks need to be spread across multiple servers, turning the centralized machine learning into a distributed one. However, privacy remains an unsolved problem in distributed machine learning. Multi-key homomorphic encryption is one of the suitable candidates to solve the problem. However, the most recent result of the Multi-key homomorphic encryption scheme (MKTFHE) only supports the NAND gate. Although it is Turing complete, it requires efficient encapsulation of the NAND gate to further support mathematical calculation. This paper designs and implements a series of operations on positive and negative integers accurately. First, we design basic bootstrapped gates with the same efficiency as that of the NAND gate. Second, we construct practical $k$-bit complement mathematical operators based on our basic binary bootstrapped gates. The constructed created can perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on both positive and negative integers. Finally, we demonstrated the generality of the designed operators by achieving a distributed privacy-preserving machine learning algorithm, i.e. linear regression with two different solutions. Experiments show that the operators we designed are practical and efficient.

Efficient Distributed Framework for Collaborative Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning

Multi-agent reinforcement learning for incomplete information environments has attracted extensive attention from researchers. However, due to the slow sample collection and poor sample exploration, there are still some problems in multi-agent reinforcement learning, such as unstable model iteration and low training efficiency. Moreover, most of the existing distributed framework are proposed for single-agent reinforcement learning and not suitable for multi-agent. In this paper, we design an distributed MARL framework based on the actor-work-learner architecture. In this framework, multiple asynchronous environment interaction modules can be deployed simultaneously, which greatly improves the sample collection speed and sample diversity. Meanwhile, to make full use of computing resources, we decouple the model iteration from environment interaction, and thus accelerate the policy iteration. Finally, we verified the effectiveness of propose framework in MaCA military simulation environment and the SMAC 3D realtime strategy gaming environment with imcomplete information characteristics.

Deblur-NeRF: Neural Radiance Fields from Blurry Images

Neural Radiance Field (NeRF) has gained considerable attention recently for 3D scene reconstruction and novel view synthesis due to its remarkable synthesis quality. However, image blurriness caused by defocus or motion, which often occurs when capturing scenes in the wild, significantly degrades its reconstruction quality. To address this problem, We propose Deblur-NeRF, the first method that can recover a sharp NeRF from blurry input. We adopt an analysis-by-synthesis approach that reconstructs blurry views by simulating the blurring process, thus making NeRF robust to blurry inputs. The core of this simulation is a novel Deformable Sparse Kernel (DSK) module that models spatially-varying blur kernels by deforming a canonical sparse kernel at each spatial location. The ray origin of each kernel point is jointly optimized, inspired by the physical blurring process. This module is parameterized as an MLP that has the ability to be generalized to various blur types. Jointly optimizing the NeRF and the DSK module allows us to restore a sharp NeRF. We demonstrate that our method can be used on both camera motion blur and defocus blur: the two most common types of blur in real scenes. Evaluation results on both synthetic and real-world data show that our method outperforms several baselines. The synthetic and real datasets along with the source code is publicly available at https://limacv.github.io/deblurnerf/

Channel Polarization of Two-dimensional-input Quantum Symmetric Channels

Being attracted by the property of classical polar code, researchers are trying to find its analogue in quantum fields, which is called quantum polar code. The first step and the key to design quantum polar code is to find out for the quantity which can measure the quality of quantum channels, whether there is a polarization phenomenon which is similar to classical channel polarization. Coherent information is believed to be the quantum analogue of classical mutual information and the quantity to measure the capacity of quantum channel. In this paper, we define a class of quantum channels called quantum symmetric channels, and prove that for quantum symmetric channels, under the similar channel combining and splitting process as in the classical channel polarization, the maximum single letter coherent information of the coordinate channels will polarize. That is to say, there is a channel polarization phenomenon in quantum symmetric channels.

FENeRF: Face Editing in Neural Radiance Fields

Previous portrait image generation methods roughly fall into two categories: 2D GANs and 3D-aware GANs. 2D GANs can generate high fidelity portraits but with low view consistency. 3D-aware GAN methods can maintain view consistency but their generated images are not locally editable. To overcome these limitations, we propose FENeRF, a 3D-aware generator that can produce view-consistent and locally-editable portrait images. Our method uses two decoupled latent codes to generate corresponding facial semantics and texture in a spatial aligned 3D volume with shared geometry. Benefiting from such underlying 3D representation, FENeRF can jointly render the boundary-aligned image and semantic mask and use the semantic mask to edit the 3D volume via GAN inversion. We further show such 3D representation can be learned from widely available monocular image and semantic mask pairs. Moreover, we reveal that joint learning semantics and texture helps to generate finer geometry. Our experiments demonstrate that FENeRF outperforms state-of-the-art methods in various face editing tasks.

StyleHEAT: One-Shot High-Resolution Editable Talking Face Generation via Pre-trained StyleGAN

One-shot talking face generation aims at synthesizing a high-quality talking face video from an arbitrary portrait image, driven by a video or an audio segment. One challenging quality factor is the resolution of the output video: higher resolution conveys more details. In this work, we investigate the latent feature space of a pre-trained StyleGAN and discover some excellent spatial transformation properties. Upon the observation, we explore the possibility of using a pre-trained StyleGAN to break through the resolution limit of training datasets. We propose a novel unified framework based on a pre-trained StyleGAN that enables a set of powerful functionalities, i.e., high-resolution video generation, disentangled control by driving video or audio, and flexible face editing. Our framework elevates the resolution of the synthesized talking face to 1024*1024 for the first time, even though the training dataset has a lower resolution. We design a video-based motion generation module and an audio-based one, which can be plugged into the framework either individually or jointly to drive the video generation. The predicted motion is used to transform the latent features of StyleGAN for visual animation. To compensate for the transformation distortion, we propose a calibration network as well as a domain loss to refine the features. Moreover, our framework allows two types of facial editing, i.e., global editing via GAN inversion and intuitive editing based on 3D morphable models. Comprehensive experiments show superior video quality, flexible controllability, and editability over state-of-the-art methods.

D2CFR: Minimize Counterfactual Regret with Deep Dueling Neural Network

Counterfactual Regret Minimization (CFR)} is the popular method for finding approximate Nash equilibrium in two-player zero-sum games with imperfect information. CFR solves games by travsersing the full game tree iteratively, which limits its scalability in larger games. When applying CFR to solve large-scale games in previously, large-scale games are abstracted into small-scale games firstly. Secondly, CFR is used to solve the abstract game. And finally, the solution strategy is mapped back to the original large-scale game. However, this process requires considerable expert knowledge, and the accuracy of abstraction is closely related to expert knowledge. In addition, the abstraction also loses certain information, which will eventually affect the accuracy of the solution strategy. Towards this problem, a recent method, \textit{Deep CFR} alleviates the need for abstraction and expert knowledge by applying deep neural networks directly to CFR in full games. In this paper, we introduces \textit{Neural Network Counterfactual Regret Minimization (NNCFR)}, an improved variant of \textit{Deep CFR} that has a faster convergence by constructing a dueling netwok as the value network. Moreover, an evaluation module is designed by combining the value network and Monte Carlo, which reduces the approximation error of the value network. In addition, a new loss function is designed in the procedure of training policy network in the proposed \textit{NNCFR}, which can be good to make the policy network more stable. The extensive experimental tests are conducted to show that the \textit{NNCFR} converges faster and performs more stable than \textit{Deep CFR}, and outperforms \textit{Deep CFR} with respect to exploitability and head-to-head performance on test games.

Improved Polar-code-based Efficient Post-processing Algorithm for Quantum Key Distribution

Combined with one-time pad encryption scheme, quantum key distribution guarantees the unconditional security of communication in theory. However, error correction and privacy amplification in the post-processing phase of quantum key distribution result in high time delay, which limits the final secret key generation rate and the practicability of quantum key distribution systems. To alleviate this limitation, this paper proposes an efficient post-processing algorithm based on polar codes for quantum key distribution. In this algorithm, by analyzing the channel capacity of the main channel and the wiretap channel respectively under the Wyner's wiretap channel model, we design a codeword structure of polar codes, so that the error correction and privacy amplification could be completed synchronously in a single step. Through combining error correction and privacy amplification into one single step, this efficient post-processing algorithm reduces complexity of the system and lower the post-processing delay. Besides, the reliable and secure communicaiton conditions for this algorithm has been given in this paper. Simulation results show that this post-processing algorithm satisfies the reliable and secure communication conditions well.
