Potts model based on a Markov process computation solves the community structure problem effectively

Potts model is a powerful tool to uncover community structure in complex networks. Here, we propose a new framework to reveal the optimal number of communities and stability of network structure by quantitatively analyzing the dynamics of Potts model. Specifically we model the community structure detection Potts procedure by a Markov process, which has a clear mathematical explanation. Then we show that the local uniform behavior of spin values across multiple timescales in the representation of the Markov variables could naturally reveal the network's hierarchical community structure. In addition, critical topological information regarding to multivariate spin configuration could also be inferred from the spectral signatures of the Markov process. Finally an algorithm is developed to determine fuzzy communities based on the optimal number of communities and the stability across multiple timescales. The effectiveness and efficiency of our algorithm are theoretically analyzed as well as experimentally validated.

The Noncommutative Infinitesimal Equivariant Index Formula

In this paper, we establish an infinitesimal equivariant index formula in the noncommutative geometry framework using Greiner's approach to heat kernel asymptotics. An infinitesimal equivariant index formula for odd dimensional manifolds is also given. We define infinitesimal equivariant eta cochains, prove their regularity and give an explicit formula for them. We also establish an infinitesimal equivariant family index formula and introduce the infinitesimal equivariant eta forms as well as compare them with the equivariant eta forms.

Anisotropic Magnetotransport and Exotic Longitudinal Linear Magnetoresistance in WTe2 Crystals

WTe2 semimetal, as a typical layered transition-metal dichalcogenide, has recently attracted much attention due to the extremely large, non-saturating parabolic magnetoresistance in perpendicular field. Here, we report a systematic study of the angular dependence of the magnetoresistance in WTe2 single crystal. The violation of the Kohler rule and a significant anisotropic magnetotransport behavior in different magnetic field directions are observed. Surprisingly, when the applied field is parallel to the tungsten chains of WTe2, an exotic large longitudinal linear magnetoresistance as high as 1200% at 15 T and 2 K is identified. Violation of the Kohler rule in transverse magnetoresistance can be understood based on a dual effect of the excitons formation and thermal activation, while large longitudinal linear magnetoresistance reflects perfectly the scattering and nesting of quasi-1D nature of this balanced hole-electron system. Our work will stimulate studies of such double-carrier correlated material and corresponding quantum physics.

Analysis of Solution Quality of a Multiobjective Optimization-based Evolutionary Algorithm for Knapsack Problem

Multi-objective optimisation is regarded as one of the most promising ways for dealing with constrained optimisation problems in evolutionary optimisation. This paper presents a theoretical investigation of a multi-objective optimisation evolutionary algorithm for solving the 0-1 knapsack problem. Two initialisation methods are considered in the algorithm: local search initialisation and greedy search initialisation. Then the solution quality of the algorithm is analysed in terms of the approximation ratio.

Film Coating Process Research and Characterization of TiN Coated Racetrack-type Ceramic Pipe

TiN film was coated on the internal face of racetrack-type ceramic pipe by three different methods: radio-frequency sputtering, DC sputtering and DC magnetron sputtering. The deposition rates of TiN film under different coating methods were compared. According to the AFM, SEM, XPS test results, these properties were analyzed, such as TiN film roughness and surface morphology. At the same time, the deposition rates were studied under two types' cathode, Ti wires and Ti plate. According to the SEM test results, Ti plate cathode can improve the TiN/Ti film deposition rate obviously.

Anisotropic Fermi Surface and Quantum Limit Transport in High Mobility 3D Dirac Semimetal Cd3As2

The three-dimensional (3D) topological Dirac semimetal is a new topological phase of matter, viewed as the 3D analogy of graphene with a linear dispersion in the 3D momentum space. Here, we report the angular dependent magnetotransport in Cd3As2 single crystal and clearly show how the Fermi surface evolves when tilting the magnetic field. Remarkably, when the magnetic field lies in [112] and [44-1] axis, only single oscillation period features present, however, the system shows double period oscillations when the field is applied along [1-10] direction. Moreover, tilting the magnetic field at certain direction also gives double period oscillations. We attribute the anomalous oscillation behavior to the sophisticated geometry of Fermi surface and illustrate a complete 3D Fermi surfaces with two nested anisotropic ellipsoids around the Dirac point. Additionally, a sub-millimeter mean free path at 6 K is observed in Cd3As2 crystal, indicating a large ballistic transport region in this material. Tracking the magnetoresistance oscillations to 60 T, we reach the quantum limit (n = 1 Landau Level) at about 43 T. These results improve the knowledge of the Dirac semimetal material Cd3As2, and also pave the way for proposing new electronic applications based on 3D Dirac materials.

Magnetization Dynamics driven by Non-equilibrium Spin-Orbit Coupled Electron Gas

The dynamics of magnetization coupled to an electron gas via s-d exchange interaction is investigated by using density matrix technique. Our theory shows that non-equilibrium spin accumulation induces a spin torque and the electron bath leads to a damping of the magnetization. For the two-dimensional magnetization thin film coupled to the electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit coupling, the result for the spin-orbit torques is consistent with the previous semi-classical theory. Our theory predicts a damping of the magnetization, which is absent in the semi-classical theory. The magnitude of the damping due to the electron bath is comparable to the intrinsic Gilbert damping and may be important in describing the magnetization dynamics of the system.

Multiply Warped Products with a Quarter-symmetric Connection

In this paper, we study the Einstein warped products and multiply warped products with a quarter-symmetric connection. We also study warped products and multiply warped products with a quarter-symmetric connection with constant scalar curvature. Then apply our results to generalized Robertson-Walker spacetimes with a quarter-symmetric connection and generalized Kasner space-times with a quarter-symmetric connection.

Scale-Invariant Dissipationless Chiral Transport in Magnetic Topological Insulators beyond the Two-Dimensional Limit

We investigate the quantum anomalous Hall Effect (QAHE) and related chiral transport in the millimeter-size (Cr0.12Bi0.26Sb0.62)2Te3 films. With high sample quality and robust magnetism at low temperatures, the quantized Hall conductance of e2/h is found to persist even when the film thickness is beyond the two-dimensional (2D) hybridization limit. Meanwhile, the Chern insulator-featured chiral edge conduction is manifested by the non-local transport measurements. In contrast to the 2D hybridized thin film, an additional weakly field-dependent longitudinal resistance is observed in the 10 quintuple-layer film, suggesting the influence of the film thickness on the dissipative edge channel in the QAHE regime. The extension of QAHE into the three-dimensional thickness region addresses the universality of this quantum transport phenomenon and motivates the exploration of new QAHE phases with tunable Chern numbers. In addition, the observation of the scale-invariant dissipationless chiral propagation on a macroscopic scale makes a major stride towards ideal low-power interconnect applications.

A Kastler-Kalau-Walze Type Theorem for 5-dimensional Manifolds with Boundary

The Kastler-Kalau-Walze theorem, announced by Alain Connes, shows that the Wodzicki residue of the inverse square of the Dirac operator is proportional to the Einstein-Hilbert action of general relativity. In this paper, we prove a Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorem for 5-dimensional manifolds with boundary.

A Non-Cooperative Game Model for Reliability-Based Task Scheduling in Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is a newly emerging distributed system which is evolved from Grid computing. Task scheduling is the core research of cloud computing which studies how to allocate the tasks among the physical nodes, so that the tasks can get a balanced allocation or each task's execution cost decreases to the minimum, or the overall system performance is optimal. Unlike task scheduling based on time or cost before, aiming at the special reliability requirements in cloud computing, we propose a non-cooperative game model for reliability-based task scheduling approach. This model takes the steady-state availability that computing nodes provide as the target, takes the task slicing strategy of the schedulers as the game strategy, then finds the Nash equilibrium solution. And also, we design a task scheduling algorithm based on this model. The experiments can be seen that our task scheduling algorithm is better than the so-called balanced scheduling algorithm.

A Task Allocation Schema Based on Response Time Optimization in Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is a newly emerging distributed computing which is evolved from Grid computing. Task scheduling is the core research of cloud computing which studies how to allocate the tasks among the physical nodes so that the tasks can get a balanced allocation or each task's execution cost decreases to the minimum or the overall system performance is optimal. Unlike the previous task slices' sequential execution of an independent task in the model of which the target is processing time, we build a model that targets at the response time, in which the task slices are executed in parallel. Then we give its solution with a method based on an improved adjusting entropy function. At last, we design a new task scheduling algorithm. Experimental results show that the response time of our proposed algorithm is much lower than the game-theoretic algorithm and balanced scheduling algorithm and compared with the balanced scheduling algorithm, game-theoretic algorithm is not necessarily superior in parallel although its objective function value is better.

Dynamics of Order Parameter in Photoexcited Peierls Chain

The photoexcited dynamics of order parameter in Peierls chain is investigated by using a microscopic quantum theory in the limit where the hot electrons may establish themselves into a quasi-equilibrium state described by an effective temperature. The optical phonon mode responsible for the Peierls instability is coupled to the electron subsystem, and its dynamic equation is derived in terms of the density matrix technique. Recovery dynamics of the order parameter is obtained, which reveals a number of interesting features including the change of oscillation frequency and amplitude at phase transition temperature and the photo-induced switching of order parameter.

A Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorem and the spectral action for perturbations of Dirac operators on manifolds with boundary

In this paper, we prove a Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorem for perturbations of Dirac operators on compact manifolds with or without boundary. As a corollary, we give two kinds of operator-theoretic explanations of the gravitational action on boundary. We also compute the spectral action for Dirac operators with two-form perturbations on $4$-dimensional compact manifolds.

Single Molecule FRET Reveals Pore Size and Opening Mechanism of MscL

The mechanosensitive channel of large conductance, which serves as a model system for mechanosensitive channels, has previously been crystallized in the closed form, but not in the open form. Ensemble measurements and electrophysiological sieving experiments show that the open-diameter of the channel pore is >25Å, but the exact size and whether the conformational change follows a helix-tilt or barrel-stave model are unclear. Here we report measurements of the distance changes on liposome-reconstituted MscL transmembrane α-helices, using a "virtual sorting" single-molecule fluorescence energy transfer. We observed directly that the channel opens via the helix-tilt model and the open pore reaches 2.8 nm in diameter. In addition, based on the measurements, we developed a molecular dynamics model of the channel structure in the open state which confirms our direct observations.
