An Algebraic Approach for Approximity

Comparison to traditionally accurate computing, approximate computing focuses on the rapidity of the satisfactory solution, but not the unnecessary accuracy of the solution. Approximate bisimularity is the approximate one corresponding to traditionally accurate bisimilarity. Based on the work of distances between basic processes, we propose an algebraic approach for distances between processes to support a whole process calculus CCS, which contains prefix, sum, composition, restriction, relabeling and recursion.

Electric-field control of spin-orbit torque in a magnetically doped topological insulator

Electric-field manipulation of magnetic order has proved of both fundamental and technological importance in spintronic devices. So far, electric-field control of ferromagnetism, magnetization and magnetic anisotropy has been explored in various magnetic materials, but the efficient electric-field control of spin-orbit torque (SOT) still remains elusive. Here, we report the effective electric-field control of a giant SOT in a Cr-doped topological insulator (TI) thin film using a top-gate FET structure. The SOT strength can be modulated by a factor of 4 within the accessible gate voltage range, and it shows strong correlation with the spin-polarized surface current in the film. Furthermore, we demonstrate the magnetization switching by scanning gate voltage with constant current and in-plane magnetic field applied in the film. The effective electric-field control of SOT and the giant spin-torque efficiency in Cr-doped TI may lead to the development of energy-efficient gate-controlled spin-torque devices compatible with modern field-effect semiconductor technologies.

Anomalous light cones and valley optical selection rules of interlayer excitons in twisted heterobilayers

We show that, because of the inevitable twist and lattice mismatch in heterobilayers of transition metal dichalcogenides, interlayer excitons have six-fold degenerate light cones anomalously located at finite velocities on the parabolic energy dispersion. The photon emissions at each light cone are elliptically polarized, with major axis locked to the direction of exciton velocity, and helicity specified by the valley indices of the electron and the hole. These finite-velocity light cones allow unprecedented possibilities to optically inject valley polarization and valley current, and the observation of both direct and inverse valley Hall effects, by exciting interlayer excitons. Our findings suggest potential excitonic circuits with valley functionalities, and unique opportunities to study exciton dynamics and condensation phenomena in semiconducting 2D heterostructures.

Exceptionally Regular Tensors and Tensor Complementarity Problems

Recently, many structured tensors are defined and their properties are discussed in the literature. In this paper, we introduce a new class of structured tensors, called exceptionally regular tensor, which is relevant to the tensor complementarity problem. We show that this class of tensors is a wide class of tensors which includes many important structured tensors as its special cases. By constructing two examples, we demonstrate that an exceptionally regular tensor can be, but not always, an $R$-tensor. We also show that within the class of the semi-positive tensors, the class of exceptionally regular tensors coincides with the class of $R$-tensors. In addition, we consider the tensor complementarity problem with an exceptionally regular tensor or an $R$-tensor or a $P_0+R_0$-tensor, and show that the solution sets of these classes of tensor complementarity problems are nonempty and compact.

Global Uniqueness and Solvability for Tensor Complementarity Problems

Recently, the tensor complementarity problem (TCP for short) has been investigated in the literature. An important question involving the property of global uniqueness and solvability (GUS-property) for a class of TCPs was proposed by Song and Qi in their paper "Properties of Some Classes of Structured Tensors". In the present paper, we give an answer to this question by constructing two counter-examples. We also show that the solution set of this class of TCPs is nonempty and compact. In particular, we introduce a class of related structured tensors, and show that the corresponding TCP has the GUS-property.

Research on the secondary electron yield of tizrv-pd thin film coatings

In particle accelerators, the build-up of electron cloud may have important influence on beam quality. Especially for the positron and proton accelerators, massive electrons lead to electron cloud, which affects the stability, energy, emittance and beam life adversely. A secondary electron emission (SEE) measurement system has been designed and used to study the SEE of palladium (Pd), TiZrV and TiZrV-Pd with an independently adjustable energy from 50 eV to 5 keV. Here, we obtained the characteristics of the SEE from Pd, TiZrV and TiZrV-Pd film coatings with different thickness under ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV) conditions. Moreover, the maximum secondary electron yield (SEY), δmax, of the Pd, TiZrV and TiZrV-Pd film coatings under different primary electron doses were obtained, respectively. Finally, the variation of the secondary electron yield with the incident electron energy will be discussed for Pd, TiZrV and TiZrV-Pd thin film coatings. Low SEY is a new advantage of TiZrV-Pd films, besides high H2 absorption ability and prolonging the lifetime of TiZrV film, which will be of great value in the design of beam screen for Super Proton-Proton Collider (SPPC).

Concept for a Future Super Proton-Proton Collider

Following the discovery of the Higgs boson at LHC, new large colliders are being studied by the international high-energy community to explore Higgs physics in detail and new physics beyond the Standard Model. In China, a two-stage circular collider project CEPC-SPPC is proposed, with the first stage CEPC (Circular Electron Positron Collier, a so-called Higgs factory) focused on Higgs physics, and the second stage SPPC (Super Proton-Proton Collider) focused on new physics beyond the Standard Model. This paper discusses this second stage.

Research on Pd film deposition rate calculation and simulation based on TiZrV/Pd film coating experiment

The vacuum chamber of accelerator storage ring need clean ultra-high vacuum environment. TiZrV getter film which was deposited on interior wall of vacuum chamber, can realize distributed pumping, effectively improve the vacuum degree and reduce the longitudinal gradient. But accumulation of pollutants such as N2, O2, will decrease the adsorption ability of non-evaporable getter (NEG), which leads to the reduction of NEG lifetime. Therefore, NEG thin film coated with a layer of Pd which has high diffusion rate and absorption ability for H2, can extend the service life of NEG, and improve the pumping rate of H2 at the same time. With argon as discharge gas, magnetron sputtering method was adopted to prepare TiZrV-Pd film in long straight pipe. According to the experimental results of the scanning electron microscope (SEM), deposition rates of TiZrV-Pd films were analyzed under different deposition parameters, the magnetic field strength, the gas flow rate, discharge current, discharge voltage and working pressure. Moreover, comparing the simulation results based on Sigmund's theory and experimental results, it was shown that the deposition rate C can be estimated by the depth sputtered, D for Pd film coatings in this experiment device.

Decay estimates of solutions to the compressible Euler-Maxwell system in R3

We study the large time behavior of solutions near a constant equilibrium to the compressible Euler-Maxwell system in $\r3$. We first refine a global existence theorem by assuming that the $H^3$ norm of the initial data is small, but the higher order derivatives can be arbitrarily large. If the initial data belongs to $\Dot{H}^{-s}$ ($0\le s<3/2$) or $\dot{B}_{2,\infty}^{-s}$ ($0<s\le3/2$), by a regularity interpolation trick, we obtain the various decay rates of the solution and its higher order derivatives. As an immediate byproduct, the usual $L^p$--$L^2$ $(1\le p\le 2)$ type of the decay rates follow without requiring that the $L^p$ norm of initial data is small.

Stability of steady states of the Navier-Stokes-Poisson equations with non-flat doping profile

We consider the stability of the steady state of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson equations with the non-flat doping profile. We prove the global existence of classical solutions near the steady state for the large doping profile. For the small doping profile, we prove the time decay rates of the solution provided that the initial perturbation belongs to $L^p$ with $1\le p< 3/2$.

Justification of Diffusion limit for the Boltzmann Equation with a non-trivial Profile

Under the diffusion scaling and a scaling assumption on the microscopic component, a non-classical fluid dynamic system was derived in \cite{BGLY} that is related to the system of ghost effect derived in \cite{Sone-2} in different settings. This paper aims to justify this limit system for a non-trivial background profile with slab symmetry. The result reveals not only the diffusion phenomena in the temperature and density, but also the flow of higher order in Knudsen number due to the gradient of the temperature. Precisely, we show that the solution to the Boltzmann equation converges to a diffusion wave with decay rates in both Knudsen number and time.

A Unified Stability Analysis Approach for a Class of Interconnected System

From the structural perspective, this paper investigates a new formulation of the concept of input-to-state stability (ISS), and based on this formulation, proposes a new stability analysis approach for a class of interconnected system. The new formulation of ISS is better able to reflect the tendency of the state $x(t)$ tracking the input $u(t)$ and weakens the conservative of the original form. The stability analysis method which transforms the interconnected system into the equivalent cascade form, does not depend on the Lyapunov function, breaks through the limitation of the small-gain theorem and extends the application of ISS. As its applications in three typical kinds of interconnected systems, this method is used to prove the small-gain theorem again and analyzes the stability of a class of interconnected system and the consensus of the multi-agent system (MAS).

Modular invariance and anomaly cancellation formulas in odd dimension

By studying modular invariance properties of some characteristic forms, we get some new anomaly cancellation formulas on $(4r-1)$ dimensional manifolds. As an application, we derive some results on divisibilities of the index of Toeplitz operators on $(4r-1)$ dimensional spin manifolds and some congruent formulas on characteristic number for $(4r-1)$ dimensional spin$^c$ manifolds.

The Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorem for 6-dimensional manifolds with boundary

In this paper, we define lower dimensional volumes of spin manifolds with boundary. We compute the lower dimensional volume ${\rm Vol}_{6}^{(1,3)}$ for 6-dimensional spin manifolds with boundary and the gravity on boundary is derived by the noncommutative residue associated with Dirac operators. For 6-dimensional manifolds with boundary, we also get a Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorem for a general fourth order operator.

Uniform regularity for the free surface compressible Navier-Stokes equations with or without surface tension

In this paper, we investigate the uniform regularity of solutions to the 3-dimensional isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes system with free surfaces and study the corresponding asymptotic limits of such solutions to that of the compressible Euler system for vanishing viscosity and surface tension. It is shown that there exists an unique strong solution to the free boundary problem for the compressible Navier-Stokes system in a finite time interval which is independent of the viscosity and the surface tension. The solution is uniform bounded both in $W^{1,\infty}$ and a conormal Sobolev space. It is also shown that the boundary layer for the density is weaker than the one for the velocity field. Based on such uniform estimates, the asymptotic limits to the free boundary problem for the ideal compressible Euler system with or without surface tension as both the viscosity and the surface tension tend to zero, are established by a strong convergence argument.

The noncommutative infinitesimal equivariant index formula: part II

In this paper, we prove that infinitesimal equivariant Chern-Connes characters are well-defined. We decompose an equivariant index as a pairing of infinitesimal equivariant Chern-Connes characters with the Chern character of an idempotent matrix. We compute the limit of infinitesimal equivariant Chern- Connes characters when the time goes to zero by using the Getzler symbol calculus and then extend these theorems to the family case. We also prove that infinitesimal equivariant eta cochains are well-defined and prove the noncommutative infinitesimal equivariant index formula for manifolds with boundary.

Deposition and characterization of TiZrV-Pd thin films by dc magnetron sputtering

TiZrV film is mainly applied in the ultra-high vacuum pipe of storage ring. Thin film coatings of palladium which was added onto the TiZrV film to increase the service life of nonevaporable getters and enhance pumping speed for H2, was deposited on the inner face of stainless steel pipes by dc magnetron sputtering using argon gas as the sputtering gas. The TiZrV-Pd film properties were investigated by atomic force microscope (AFM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The grain size of TiZrV and Pd film were about 0.42~1.3 nm and 8.5~18.25 nm respectively. It was found that the roughness of TiZrV films was small, about 2~4 nm, for Pd film it is large, about 17~19 nm. PP At. % of Pd in TiZrV/Pd films varied from 86.84 to 87.56 according to the XPS test results.
