NavMoE: Hybrid Model- and Learning-based Traversability Estimation for Local Navigation via Mixture of Experts

This paper explores traversability estimation for robot navigation. A key bottleneck in traversability estimation lies in efficiently achieving reliable and robust predictions while accurately encoding both geometric and semantic information across diverse environments. We introduce Navigation via Mixture of Experts (NAVMOE), a hierarchical and modular approach for traversability estimation and local navigation. NAVMOE combines multiple specialized models for specific terrain types, each of which can be either a classical model-based or a learning-based approach that predicts traversability for specific terrain types. NAVMOE dynamically weights the contributions of different models based on the input environment through a gating network. Overall, our approach offers three advantages: First, NAVMOE enables traversability estimation to adaptively leverage specialized approaches for different terrains, which enhances generalization across diverse and unseen environments. Second, our approach significantly improves efficiency with negligible cost of solution quality by introducing a training-free lazy gating mechanism, which is designed to minimize the number of activated experts during inference. Third, our approach uses a two-stage training strategy that enables the training for the gating networks within the hybrid MoE method that contains nondifferentiable modules. Extensive experiments show that NAVMOE delivers a better efficiency and performance balance than any individual expert or full ensemble across different domains, improving cross-domain generalization and reducing average computational cost by 81.2% via lazy gating, with less than a 2% loss in path quality.

Control Synthesis for Multiple Reach-Avoid Tasks via Hamilton-Jacobi Reachability Analysis

We investigate the control synthesis problem for continuous-time time-varying nonlinear systems with disturbance under a class of multiple reach-avoid (MRA) tasks. Specifically, the MRA task requires the system to reach a series of target regions in a specified order while satisfying state constraints between each pair of target arrivals. This problem is more challenging than standard reach-avoid tasks, as it requires considering the feasibility of future reach-avoid tasks during the planning process. To solve this problem, we define a series of value functions by solving a cascade of time-varying reach-avoid problems characterized by Hamilton-Jacobi variational inequalities. We prove that the super-level set of the final value function computed is exactly the feasible set of the MRA task. Additionally, we demonstrate that the control law can be effectively synthesized by ensuring the non-negativeness of the value functions over time. We also show that the Linear temporal logic task control synthesis problems can be converted to a collection of MRA task control synthesis problems by properly defining each target and state constraint set of MRA tasks. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated through four case studies on robot planning problems under time-varying nonlinear systems with disturbance.

A Contemporary Survey on Fluid Antenna Systems: Fundamentals and Networking Perspectives

The explosive growth of teletraffic, fueled by the convergence of cyber-physical systems and data-intensive applications, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous systems, and immersive communications, demands a multidisciplinary suite of innovative solutions across the physical and network layers. Fluid antenna systems (FAS) represent a transformative advancement in antenna design, offering enhanced spatial degrees of freedom through dynamic reconfigurability. By exploiting spatial flexibility, FAS can adapt to varying channel conditions and optimize wireless performance, making it a highly promising candidate for next-generation communication networks. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of the state of the art in FAS research. We begin by examining key application scenarios in which FAS offers significant advantages. We then present the fundamental principles of FAS, covering channel measurement and modeling, single-user configurations, and the multi-user fluid antenna multiple access (FAMA) framework. Following this, we delve into key network-layer techniques such as quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning, power allocation, and content placement strategies. We conclude by identifying prevailing challenges and outlining future research directions to support the continued development of FAS in next-generation wireless networks.

Robust Model Reconstruction Based on the Topological Understanding of Point Clouds Using Persistent Homology

Reconstructing models from unorganized point clouds presents a significant challenge, especially when the models consist of multiple components represented by their surface point clouds. Such models often involve point clouds with noise that represent multiple closed surfaces with shared regions, making their automatic identification and separation inherently complex. In this paper, we propose an automatic method that uses the topological understanding provided by persistent homology, along with representative 2-cycles of persistent homology groups, to effectively distinguish and separate each closed surface. Furthermore, we employ Loop subdivision and least squares progressive iterative approximation (LSPIA) techniques to generate high-quality final surfaces and achieve complete model reconstruction. Our method is robust to noise in the point cloud, making it suitable for reconstructing models from such data. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach and highlight its potential for practical applications.

Generalized Tree Edit Distance (GTED): A Faithful Evaluation Metric for Statement Autoformalization

Statement autoformalization, the automated translation of statements from natural language into formal languages, has become a subject of extensive research, yet the development of robust automated evaluation metrics remains limited. Existing evaluation methods often lack semantic understanding, face challenges with high computational costs, and are constrained by the current progress of automated theorem proving. To address these issues, we propose GTED (Generalized Tree Edit Distance), a novel evaluation framework that first standardizes formal statements and converts them into operator trees, then determines the semantic similarity using the eponymous GTED metric. Across the miniF2F and ProofNet benchmarks, GTED consistently ranks as a top-performing metric, achieving the highest accuracy and Kappa on miniF2F and the joint-highest accuracy on ProofNet. This strong overall performance provides the community with a computationally lightweight and more faithful metric for automated evaluation. The code and experimental results are available at https://github.com/XiaoyangLiu-sjtu/GTED.

GenTune: Toward Traceable Prompts to Improve Controllability of Image Refinement in Environment Design

Environment designers in the entertainment industry create imaginative 2D and 3D scenes for games, films, and television, requiring both fine-grained control of specific details and consistent global coherence. Designers have increasingly integrated generative AI into their workflows, often relying on large language models (LLMs) to expand user prompts for text-to-image generation, then iteratively refining those prompts and applying inpainting. However, our formative study with 10 designers surfaced two key challenges: (1) the lengthy LLM-generated prompts make it difficult to understand and isolate the keywords that must be revised for specific visual elements; and (2) while inpainting supports localized edits, it can struggle with global consistency and correctness. Based on these insights, we present GenTune, an approach that enhances human--AI collaboration by clarifying how AI-generated prompts map to image content. Our GenTune system lets designers select any element in a generated image, trace it back to the corresponding prompt labels, and revise those labels to guide precise yet globally consistent image refinement. In a summative study with 20 designers, GenTune significantly improved prompt--image comprehension, refinement quality, and efficiency, and overall satisfaction (all $p < .01$) compared to current practice. A follow-up field study with two studios further demonstrated its effectiveness in real-world settings.

A Semantic-Aware Framework for Safe and Intent-Integrative Assistance in Upper-Limb Exoskeletons

Upper-limb exoskeletons are primarily designed to provide assistive support by accurately interpreting and responding to human intentions. In home-care scenarios, exoskeletons are expected to adapt their assistive configurations based on the semantic information of the task, adjusting appropriately in accordance with the nature of the object being manipulated. However, existing solutions often lack the ability to understand task semantics or collaboratively plan actions with the user, limiting their generalizability. To address this challenge, this paper introduces a semantic-aware framework that integrates large language models into the task planning framework, enabling the delivery of safe and intent-integrative assistance. The proposed approach begins with the exoskeleton operating in transparent mode to capture the wearer's intent during object grasping. Once semantic information is extracted from the task description, the system automatically configures appropriate assistive parameters. In addition, a diffusion-based anomaly detector is used to continuously monitor the state of human-robot interaction and trigger real-time replanning in response to detected anomalies. During task execution, online trajectory refinement and impedance control are used to ensure safety and regulate human-robot interaction. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively aligns with the wearer's cognition, adapts to semantically varying tasks, and responds reliably to anomalies.

The Scott space of lattice of closed subsets with supremum operator as a topological semilattice

We present several equivalent conditions of the continuity of the supremum function from the square of the Scott space of $C(X)$ to itself under mild assumptions, where $C(X)$ denotes the lattice of closed subsets of a $\mathbf{T_0}$ topological space. We also show that a $\mathbf{T_0}$ space is quasicontinuous (quasialgebraic) iff the lattice of its closed subsets is a quasicontinuous (quasialgebraic) domain by using $n$-approximation. Furthermore, we provide a necessary condition for when a topological space possesses a Scott completion. This allows us to give more examples which do not have Scott completions.

Mechanistic Insight into BEOL Thermal Transport via Optical Metrology and Multiphysics Simulation

As integrated circuits continue to scale down and adopt three-dimensional (3D) stacking, thermal management in the back-end-of-line (BEOL) has emerged as a critical design constraint. In this study, we present a combined experimental and simulation framework to quantitatively characterize and mechanistically understand thermal transport in BEOL multilayers. Using the Square-Pulsed Source (SPS) method, a time-resolved optical metrology technique, we measure cross-plane thermal resistance and areal heat capacity in semiconductor chips at nanometer resolution. Two fabricated chip samples, polished to the M4 and M6 interconnection layers, are analyzed to extract thermal properties of distinct multilayer stacks. Results show that thermal resistance follows a series model, while areal heat capacity scales linearly with metal content. To uncover the underlying physical mechanisms, we perform finite element simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics, examining the influence of via connectivity and dielectric thermal conductivity on effective cross-plane heat transport. The simulations reveal that dielectric materials, due to their large volume fraction, are the primary limiting factor in BEOL thermal conduction, while the via structure plays a secondary but significant role. This combined experimental-simulation approach provides mechanistic insight into heat transport in advanced IC architectures and offers practical guidance for optimizing thermal pathways in future high-performance 3D-stacked devices.

Finite-Time Convergence Analysis of ODE-based Generative Models for Stochastic Interpolants

Stochastic interpolants offer a robust framework for continuously transforming samples between arbitrary data distributions, holding significant promise for generative modeling. Despite their potential, rigorous finite-time convergence guarantees for practical numerical schemes remain largely unexplored. In this work, we address the finite-time convergence analysis of numerical implementations for ordinary differential equations (ODEs) derived from stochastic interpolants. Specifically, we establish novel finite-time error bounds in total variation distance for two widely used numerical integrators: the first-order forward Euler method and the second-order Heun's method. Furthermore, our analysis on the iteration complexity of specific stochastic interpolant constructions provides optimized schedules to enhance computational efficiency. Our theoretical findings are corroborated by numerical experiments, which validate the derived error bounds and complexity analyses.

Bidirectional anisotropic solar energetic particle events observed by Solar Orbiter

Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) events are critical for understanding particle acceleration and transport in the heliosphere. While most SEP events involve outward streaming particles along open magnetic field lines, bidirectional events characterized by simultaneous sunward and anti-sunward particle flows offer unique insights into magnetic field topology and the interplay of multiple acceleration sources. We aim to investigate the origin and transport of energetic particles in two rare bidirectional anisotropic SEP events observed by Solar Orbiter. Both events showed two clear velocity dispersion signatures with opposite particle anisotropies during their onset phase. The sunward streaming protons, characterized by delayed release time, harder spectral index, and higher intensities, may be attributed to coronal mass ejection-driven shock acceleration, while the promptly released anti-sunward streaming protons are likely linked to flare acceleration. Notably, in both cases, small-scale flux ropes were identified in situ during the time intervals corresponding to the bidirectional particle streaming. Path lengths derived for sunward and anti-sunward injections were substantially greater than nominal values of the Parker field lines, further supporting the role of the flux rope in shaping particle trajectories. These observations demonstrate that magnetic flux rope could significantly affect magnetic connectivity to the source region and SEP propagation in the inner heliosphere, while simultaneous velocity dispersion from two distinct particle sources allows for direct constraints on the topology of the flux rope. Our results highlight the value of combining particle anisotropy, release time, source spectra, and magnetic structure diagnostics to unravel SEP transport in complex transient magnetic structures, and also present new challenges for the current SEP transport model.

AV-SSAN: Audio-Visual Selective DoA Estimation through Explicit Multi-Band Semantic-Spatial Alignment

Audio-visual sound source localization (AV-SSL) estimates the position of sound sources by fusing auditory and visual cues. Current AV-SSL methodologies typically require spatially-paired audio-visual data and cannot selectively localize specific target sources. To address these limitations, we introduce Cross-Instance Audio-Visual Localization (CI-AVL), a novel task that localizes target sound sources using visual prompts from different instances of the same semantic class. CI-AVL enables selective localization without spatially paired data. To solve this task, we propose AV-SSAN, a semantic-spatial alignment framework centered on a Multi-Band Semantic-Spatial Alignment Network (MB-SSA Net). MB-SSA Net decomposes the audio spectrogram into multiple frequency bands, aligns each band with semantic visual prompts, and refines spatial cues to estimate the direction-of-arrival (DoA). To facilitate this research, we construct VGGSound-SSL, a large-scale dataset comprising 13,981 spatial audio clips across 296 categories, each paired with visual prompts. AV-SSAN achieves a mean absolute error of 16.59 and an accuracy of 71.29%, significantly outperforming existing AV-SSL methods. Code and data will be public.

FluidFormer: Transformer with Continuous Convolution for Particle-based Fluid Simulation

Learning-based fluid simulation networks have been proven as viable alternatives to traditional numerical solvers for the Navier-Stokes equations. Existing neural methods follow Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) frameworks, which inherently rely only on local inter-particle interactions. However, we emphasize that global context integration is also essential for learning-based methods to stabilize complex fluid simulations. We propose the first Fluid Attention Block (FAB) with a local-global hierarchy, where continuous convolutions extract local features while self-attention captures global dependencies. This fusion suppresses the error accumulation and models long-range physical phenomena. Furthermore, we pioneer the first Transformer architecture specifically designed for continuous fluid simulation, seamlessly integrated within a dual-pipeline architecture. Our method establishes a new paradigm for neural fluid simulation by unifying convolution-based local features with attention-based global context modeling. FluidFormer demonstrates state-of-the-art performance, with stronger stability in complex fluid scenarios.

Towards Identifying the PL6 Center in SiC: From First-Principles Screening to Hyperfine Validation of Competing Defect Candidates

The PL6 color center in 4H-SiC, known for its excellent ambient-temperature spin and optical properties, has an unresolved microscopic origin. In this first-principles study, we systematically investigate potential structures to clarify its nature. We first rigorously examine the DV-antisite hypothesis (a divacancy paired with a carbon antisite, $\mathrm{C_{Si}}$), analyzing the energetic, electronic, and spin properties of various $V_\mathrm{Si}V_\mathrm{C}+\mathrm{C_{Si}}$ configurations. Two $\mathrm{C_{3v}}$-symmetric $\mathrm{kk+C_{Si}}$ complexes emerge as strong candidates within this framework. Subsequently, a critical comparison of hyperfine interaction signatures is performed between these candidates, the alternative OV model [specifically OV(hh) and OV(kk), an oxygen replacing C together with a Si vacancy], and experimental data. This analysis demonstrates that the OV(hh) structure more accurately reproduces PL6's hyperfine features. Furthermore, re-evaluation of the proposed OV(hk) model for the related PL5 center reveals zero-field splitting parameter $E$ inconsistencies with experimental results, suggesting that PL5 and PL6 may have distinct origins. These findings provide crucial theoretical insights and motivate targeted experimental validation for these quantum defects.

Global, Regional, and National Burden of Chronic Kidney Disease Attributable to High Body Mass Index (BMI) among Individuals Aged 20-54 Years from 1990 to 2021: An Analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study

Background:Chronic kidney disease is one of the most prevalent non-communicable health issues globally, and high body mass index plays a significant role in the onset and progression of chronic kidney disease. Methods: Data on the disease burden attributable to high body mass index were retrieved from the 2021 Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study . The global cases, age-standardized mortality rate , and age-standardized disability-adjusted life years attributable to high body mass index were estimated based on age, sex, geographic location, and the Social-demographic Index (SDI). The estimated annual percentage change was calculated to quantify trends in ASMR and ASDR from 1990 to 2019. Decomposition and frontier analyses were conducted to understand the drivers behind changes in burden and to identify top-performing countries. Inequality analysis was performed to assess disparities in burden across different SDI levels. The Bayesian age-period-cohort model was used to predict the disease burden up to 2035.Results: In 2021, there were 4,643.41 global deaths and 2,514,227.16 DALYs attributable to high body mass index-related CKD, more than triple the figures from 1990. Additionally, from 1990 to 2021, the ASMR and ASDR accelerated, with EAPCs of 2.25 (95% CI: 2.13 to 2.37) and 1.98 (95% CI: 1.89 to 2.08), respectively, particularly among males, in High-income North America, and in Low-middle SDI regions. In terms of SDI, the Low-middle SDI region had the highest ASMR and ASDR related to CKD in 2021. Conclusion: From 1990 to 2021, there was a significant increase in global deaths and DALYs attributable to high high body mass index related CKD. As a major public health issue for CKD patients, high BMI urgently requires targeted measures to address it.

AI Governance InternationaL Evaluation Index (AGILE Index) 2025

The year 2024 witnessed accelerated global AI governance advancements, marked by strengthened multilateral frameworks and proliferating national regulatory initiatives. This acceleration underscores an unprecedented need to systematically track governance progress--an imperative that drove the launch of the AI Governance InternationaL Evaluation Index (AGILE Index) project since 2023. The inaugural AGILE Index, released in February 2024 after assessing 14 countries, established an operational and comparable baseline framework. Building on pilot insights, AGILE Index 2025 incorporates systematic refinements to better balance scientific rigor with practical adaptability. The updated methodology expands data diversity while enhancing metric validity and cross-national comparability. Reflecting both research advancements and practical policy evolution, AGILE Index 2025 evaluates 40 countries across income levels, regions, and technological development stages, with 4 Pillars, 17 Dimensions and 43 Indicators. In compiling the data, the team integrates multi-source evidence including policy documents, governance practices, research outputs, and risk exposure to construct a unified comparison framework. This approach maps global disparities while enabling countries to identify governance strengths, gaps, and systemic constraints. Through ongoing refinement and iterations, we hope the AGILE Index will fundamentally advance transparency and measurability in global AI governance, delivering data-driven assessments that depict national AI governance capacity, assist governments in recognizing their maturation stages and critical governance issues, and ultimately provide actionable insights for enhancing AI governance systems nationally and globally.

Finite-Time Analysis of Discrete-Time Stochastic Interpolants

The stochastic interpolant framework offers a powerful approach for constructing generative models based on ordinary differential equations (ODEs) or stochastic differential equations (SDEs) to transform arbitrary data distributions. However, prior analyses of this framework have primarily focused on the continuous-time setting, assuming a perfect solution of the underlying equations. In this work, we present the first discrete-time analysis of the stochastic interpolant framework, where we introduce an innovative discrete-time sampler and derive a finite-time upper bound on its distribution estimation error. Our result provides a novel quantification of how different factors, including the distance between source and target distributions and estimation accuracy, affect the convergence rate and also offers a new principled way to design efficient schedules for convergence acceleration. Finally, numerical experiments are conducted on the discrete-time sampler to corroborate our theoretical findings.

On the Construction of Barrier Certificate: A Dynamic Programming Perspective

In this paper, we revisit the formal verification problem for stochastic dynamical systems over finite horizon using barrier certificates. Most existing work on this topic focuses on safety properties by constructing barrier certificates based on the notion of $c$-martingales. In this work, we first provide a new insight into the conditions of existing martingale-based barrier certificates from the perspective of dynamic programming operators. Specifically, we show that the existing conditions essentially provide a bound on the dynamic programming solution, which exactly characterizes the safety probability. Based on this new perspective, we demonstrate that the barrier conditions in existing approaches are unnecessarily conservative over unsafe states. To address this, we propose a new set of safety barrier certificate conditions that are strictly less conservative than existing ones, thereby providing tighter probability bounds for safety verification. We further extend our approach to the case of reach-avoid specifications by providing a set of new barrier certificate conditions. We also illustrate how to search for these new barrier certificates using sum-of-squares (SOS) programming. Finally, we use two numerical examples to demonstrate the advantages of our method compared to existing approaches.
